Back to the Future

Thomas Cozine Singapore

Review Submitted July 10, 2012 Date of Stay June 16, 2012

"Back to the Future" is what we felt when our time was over. This beautiful home and this wonderful village will take you back into time to a more peaceful time and place. I can't add anything else to what's already been posted, other then it's all very true. This is a wonderful house and it's location could not be ANY better. Literally steps away from the many bakers, cafes, restaurants, outdoor markets yet it felt so quiet and remote. If you're staying in Vence, or anywhere in the Nice area, this is the home to book. We could not have been happier.

Delightful home right in the village of Vence.

The house being in the ramparts made it feel like we really lived there. The location was fantastic. There were only four of us but the home can easily accommodate many more. The description is very accurate. It had all the amenities (except TV) which was fine. It was so wonderful to walk out the front door and be a few yards from restaurants, shops, churches and open markets in the village square. We especially enjoyed our "happy hour" on the rooftop patio in the evening. Maggie & John the owners were so easy to work with. I would highly recommend staying here.

Owner's Response: We are so happy you enjoyed your stay in Vence. It is great just stepping out to the restaurants,
cafes and shops. It is also great that the house has a garage for convenient parking for trips out
of town. Because we love our house and the village of Vence so much, it is always a pleasure
to help our guests enjoy their stay.

Excellent accommodation in central location.

Four friends sharing a week together in this wonderful home, we had done a search on the internet for a place to stay and this looked wonderful. It exceeded all expectations, it looked good on the internet and it didn't disappoint. Greeted by a very friendly gentleman who showed us how everything worked and where things were, and a number should we need him. Vence has everything you need, no shortage or choice of restaurants, a friendly town, not too touristy. Easy access to St Paul de Vence by local bus for about a Euro 50, and Nice is only about 40 mins away by the same bus for the same cost. You don't need a car to stay here. A week as it turned out was not long enough, the property is well equipped clean and beautifully appointed. Would highly recommend.

Owner's Response: We are delighted you enjoyed your holiday in Vence and were so pleased with our house.
Yes, there are so many wonderful restaurants in Vence and we hope you had the
chance to try some of our favorites which we recommended.
While our house is one of the few homes within the "old town" that has a garage which is convenient and saves on parking costs, Vence does have excellent public transportation to most tourist attractions.

A weeek in Vence

  • 4 of 5
A wonderful location, although hard to find on first arrival and detailed directions would help to create the initial good impression. The house is very central and when you walk out the front door one enters a beautiful little walkway, and only 2 minutes to the village. The house was comfortable and provided all the amenities except the oven was not working, although this did not impact us as the choice of restaurants in walking distance was excellent. The rooftop terrace overlooking the lovely surrounding views was the perfect place for a glass of wine at the end of the day. An automatic or lockable/unlockable garage door would help the fact that the garage access is on the basement level and has to be locked from the inside necessitating somebody going back up the stairs and out of the front door. That said the property allowed us to have a wonderful week and we brought home nothing but lovely memories.

Owner's Response: We are elighted you enjoyed your stay. The oven does work. The stove top is gas, but the oven is electric. Th wifi is working. The temporary outage was due to a France Telecom repair that affected the entire village. Any problem should be reported to the property manager who lives just minutes away

On the most beautiful street in town this charming 600 year old villa is like awakening in a dream. Large rooms, perfect location, garage, all amenities one could want and a spectacular rooftop terrace overlooking the mountains.

Car: not necessary

Vence is a beautiful walled, hilltop village 20 minutes by car from Nice airport. Less than five minutes drive is the historic City of St Paul de Vence. The quiet village is the perfect escape after a busy day touring or enjoying the beaches of nearby Nice, Cannes, Antibes. Monaco is less than an hour away. Unique to the historic City of Vence our house has a garage.

Our house, located on the ramparts of the old city overlooks the foothills of the Maritine Alps. Vence was home to Henri Mattisse who built his famous chapel here. From the terrace of our house you can view the Mattisse chapel. Other painters who had fallen under its spell include: Chagall Dubuffet and Soutine. It is still a City of art with numerous galleries lining its medieval streets. Less than 100 yards away is Cathedral of

Notre-Dame de la Nativite. There has been a cathedral on this site since the 4th century and embedded in its walls are Roman tablets dated from that period. Although Vence is a quiet Village, it has numerous outdoor cafes and many fine restaurants within a 5 minute or less walk from our house. At night you can enjoy a beautiful meal with the accompanying bottle of wine and then have a short walk home gift shops and the market are all only minutes away.
