THE VILLAGE : time seems to have stood still in the medieval village of Arquà Petrarca.
This charming hamlet, nestled in the heart of the Euganean Hills Natural Park, is a proud member of “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy” an organization dedicated to promoting 'the great heritage of History, Art, Culture, Environment and Traditions found in small Italian villages' that are unique and offer a special experience.
The S.S. Trinità Oratory; the Loggia dei Vicari; the Poet's museum/house; the Fountain with the old washing trough and the charming palaces that face the narrow streets bear fascinating witness to the past fortunes of Arquà Petrarca.
Surrounding Arquà Petrarca visitors will find the world renown Terme Euganee Spas; the impressive historical garden of Valsanzibio; 4 golf courses; the small medieval towns of Monselice, Este e Montagnana; Praglia e Carceri Abbeys; and several wonderful Venetian Villas.
I have come far, from an island of silver and greens
To a country, by its people much adored, where colours
Of blue and gold abound; where swifts and swallows soar
And where the terracotta tiles on rustic buildings gleam.
And of that land, there rises from a plain in the Veneto
An ancient volcanic archipelago, amidst an agrarian sea.
Wild woods worship the sun with cultured vines and leaves;
From nature’s harsh elements are nurtured olive groves.
This mysterious, shrouded world wields its magic spell
And draws to itself in thermal springs, relief for aching bones.
Poets too, have found inspiration from this strange nature zone
Where those brilliant hues shine on and verses flow and tell
Of Arquá Petrarca: stone houses radiate a golden solar glow,
Narrow and steep cobbled alleys creep up the valley walls.
Above autumnal mists, scenes mimic a witch’s cauldron!
But soon blue wins through for the kindly villagers below.
Forasmuch as I have been enchanted by the Euganean Hills
One must turn again home to things familiar and known,
But the seeds of this geographical marvel have been sown.
I must return to explore once more this park and its steeples.
beautiful apt, beautiful village; but best of all, a cultured, kind host, eager to help (e.g. he insisted on picking us up at train station). every recommendation arrigo made, including some for our visits to padova and venezia, was excellent. arqua petrarca was dead quiet at the beginning of march, but our only disappointment was that arrigo's wife's restaurant didn't open until the day we left. we hope to return--at a later time in the year--one of these days. grazie mille, arrigo
We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks stay at Casa Zorzi. Arrigo is such a kind, thoughtful and generous host, and a visit to his wife's Osteria is compulsory!
The accommodation was first class - exceptionally clean and everything you could need for a restful holiday.
Arqua Petrarca is a beautiful, traditional village set in the Euganean hills, and is an excellent base for exploring the Veneto region.
We would recommend Casa Zorzi to friends and relatives without hesitation.
My husband and I spent a wonderful week at Casa Zorzi in beautiful Arqua and we could have stayed longer. The apartment was very comfortable, everything we needed was there and we had a lovely place to enjoy eating dinners outside. The village itself is charming - good restaurants, friendly people and off the tourist path. There are lots of interesting towns to visit close by. Arigio is a wonderful host. He welcomed us warmly and had a wealth of information to share about the area. We have stayed in many small villages in Italy and France and this was one of our favourites!
We had a fantastic time at the most beautiful well appointed apartmenbt at Casa Zorzi! The owner Arrigo was just the most welcoming host ever. We enjoyed our visit to Venice as Arrigo had prepared for us a Venetian's guide to a fantastic day out in Venice- this is a must guide for all tourists. The apartment was spacious and beautifully clean. A small bed had been purchased especially for our visit in order to accommodate us all. Our Kingsized bed was very comfortable and ensured our nights sleep. You must visit Arrigo's wife's restaurant- the food is to die for- beautifully cooked and Nina has a lovely way with the customers. Just don't think about this accommodation - book it without delay- you will not be disappointed!
Vietimme onnellisen viikon Casa Zorzissa.
Arriving in the beautiful town if Arqua Petrarca was highlighted by Arrigio's lovely wife. She took time out of her evening preparations at her restaurant to show is the beautiful flat just up the hill. After we settled in we had an amazing meal ast her place. Arrigio took the time to cone on and greet us. At any time he was available for advice. Each day he asked where planned go. Moments later a detailed email with amazing suggestions for food and off the beaten path itineraries arrived in my inbox.
I am currently planning to return as soon as i can amass the vacation time again!
