The Loft at Harvest Moon Gardens (CALL FOR SPECIAL WINTER RATES) is nestled in the heart of the mountains of Western North Carolina, near Sylva, NC. Visitors drive up a forested driveway and emerge to see beautiful gardens, a mountain stream and pond, lush forests and vistas of the mountains. Upon unpacking, you will want to wander along the wooded walking paths on the 10 acres of property and into the National forest beyond, relax in the gardens, sit by the pond and read, relax on the deck with a hot cup of tea or coffee, or retreat to the loft for writing, yoga, meditation, sleeping, relaxing or visiting with friends.
Our own home is close by so we can be available if you have questions or need help.
The loft comfortably sleeps 4 people with a queen-size Murphy bed and fold-out queen futon bed. An air mattress and infant pack and play are available upon request. The quaint and fully furnished kitchen looks out into the wooded forest.
Cook your own meals, and sit out on the porch to enjoy them, watching the sun set over the mountains. The full bathroom features a handicapped accessible walk-in shower and bars and a stackable washer and dryer for longer stays.
Outside the front door are views of the mountains, the pond complete with a cantilevered pier and canoe or kayak, views of the gardens and mountains and a small natural waterfall right outside the bedroom window. This is the place to go for the ultimate retreat from the world of hustle and bustle. Here you can sit back and relax, turn off your computer and phone if you choose and unplug into a natural setting that will leave you feeling as rejuvenated and fresh as the delicious mountain spring water you'll drink from the tap.
A stay at the loft might include an afternoon spent on our property hiking trails right outside your front door, taking a dip in the spring-fed pond, walking on the swinging bridge, and enjoying the gardens that look out over beautiful mountain views or participating in a retreat at Harvest Moon Gardens. We regularly host retreats in leadership, women's empowerment, gardening, meditation and yoga, and have guest speakers coming in for additional retreats.
The surrounding area is rich in outdoor activities including skiing and snow tubing in the winter, a visit to nearby Cherokee or Harrah's casino, water sports in the summer and more. The Loft is located just two miles from Hwy 441, the main highway from Atlanta to the Cherokee, Dillsboro's tourist and craft venues, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Nantahala Outdoor Center, and the entrance to the Great Smokies National Park. Guestbook comments from the owner
Wonderful stay for us. Caught lots of fish in the Tuckaseigee River including the biggest brown trout I've ever caught. We'll be back.
Marsha Crites has owned this special mountain paradise since 1979, and raised three daughters on these ten acres, surrounded by National Forest. Now the property is home to her successful and unique landscape design business, Harvest Moon Gardens. A well-known community leader and group facilitator, she also hosts weekend retreats including reunions, gardening workshops, leadership workshops, women's empowerment gatherings, and small weddings.
Harvest Moon Gardens is located in in the Greens Creek Community, which is in a ten mile area considered the heart of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. It features the most diverse plant life, archeology, and cultural history of the region. Surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest, the property is quiet and secluded, with only the sound of an occasional hound in the distance. Greens Creek community was once used by the Cherokees as a place of refuge and respite.
Harvest Moon Gardens is located conveniently off of US 441 which runs from Georgia all the way up through western NC and into TN. It's an easy 3 hour drive from Atlanta, 2 from Knoxville or 2.5 from Charlotte. The quaint town of Dillsboro, 10 minutes away, features the Great Smokey Mountain Railway, the famous Jarrett House Restaurant, coffee shops, bistros, art galleries, a spa, antiques and more. Sylva, a slightly larger town, offers the newly renovated Jackson County courthouse turned public library and regional museum. Sylva also has two local breweries (Heinzlemenchen and Innovations), Papous Wine Shop, a bakery, great eateries, City Lights bookstore, Hookers Fishing shop, native craft stores and so much more.
