The home features vaulted ceilings in the living room, a dramatic fireplace and sweeping views. The cabin offers the perfect balance of rustic wood paneling and beams to upscale floor coverings and furnishings.

The Lodge has a private, secluded hot tub, pool table, casino gaming table, flat screen televisions, basic gym, and gourmet kitchen for the cook or baker. The home features two well appointed bedrooms, and a loft and additional open sleeping room with expansive views. All beds feature high quality linens and appointments. The home offers an outdoor spa against the rocks, a game room with pool table and gaming table, popcorn machine and more. The gourmet kitchen offers quartz counters, stainless steel appliances, special features including an espresso machine and waffle machine. The vaulted ceiling living room features a large fireplace with lava rock reaching to the ceiling.
We live in San Diego and love to hike. Owning a home in Idyllwild has been a dream since I first visited the mountain 18 years ago. The home is a dream! It is beautifully appointed, newly remodeled from top to bottom and enjoys lots of privacy and seclusion.
JOHN RINALDI purchased this cabin in 2012
The last owners remodeled the home with love and utilized many of the same materials used in my primary home like slate floors, the moment I walked in the home I knew this was the house!
I love views and being up high. The home features large decks in the front and in the back and is quiet and serene. It is a first class home with many fine touches. The unique wood carvings, the large lava rock fireplace reaching to the ceiling, the spa against the rocks, a backyard surrounded by granite rocks, all of these things captured my heart.
We had a very nice weekend! The cabin is amazing. All of the amenities needed were here and more. We loved the game room and hot tub! We hope to visit again next year!
Spent 3 days up at Eagle rest with the wife, dog and 2 little ones (ages 2 and 7 months). We had a great time and the inside of the property is much nicer than what you see in the pictures. Here's our rundown of what we thought:
Secluded and quiet
Awesome hot tub
Fun game room
Good wifi signal
Great decks with a great view
stairs up to it can be a pain
Not the best place for a toddler
Lots of dog poo left in the yard
Lots of expired food left behind in the fridge and pantry
Sooooo many light switches
Ran out of toilet paper and they didn't really stock soap, shampoo, conditioner etc.
We loved our time up there but if you have kids under say 5 you might want to reconsider. We knew this going in and we still had fun but probably wouldn't come back until they are a bit bigger. If you do have kids over 5 they'll probably have a blast climbing, playing, exploring, etc.
Not much we can say negative other than the dog poo, but that comes with it being pet friendly I suppose. Stairs up are rickety and we couldn't figure out what half of the switches are for but the good far outweigh the bad. Great property.
My husband and I shared a 3 day birthday weekend with our three adult kids and everyone had a wonderful time. The home is beautifully decorated with lovely views from the large picture windows. The kitchen had everything we could ask for and more to turn out delicious feasts every night. The game room is really fun and we loved having Deer Springs trail within walking distance. The only downside was the staircase up to the house from the parking space which made unloading a challenge for us. Initially we feared we would miss the Superbowl because there is no cable TV, but found we could access the game through the Apple TV which saved the day! We loved the house and location and would certainly come back again.
The location was just as described and illustrated in the listing. We got what we had expected.... no negative surprises. Owner was very helpful and honest in answering questions before booking. I would say the location would be perfect for people looking for a place more on the off-the-grid side. Would definitely consider going back there...
We were six friends and two dogs and we had an amazing time hiking in the mountains and hanging out around the house. There was a beautiful trail within walking distance. The house had a great kitchen and game room and felt very private. We loved to just sit out on the deck and look at the view.
Eagle Rest Lodge is quiet, comfortable, and clean. The photos don't capture the "niceness" well enough - no photos do. The kitchen is fully stocked like a real home - with better appliances and pans than I have in my own home! Beautiful slate floors. Bed linens you sink into comfortably. A sparkling clean hot tub on the back deck (normally I stay out of rental hot tubs but this one was VERY clean.) A peaceful front deck with a fire ring and plenty of dry wood for s'mores. When you sit on the deck, your view is through the tops of trees - which is probably why it is called "Eagle Rest!" We had two teenagers with us and they immediately went to the game loft and made popcorn in the big popper machine. The pool table kept them entertained, and of course the WiFi was critical. They also found a gaming system under the TV. The sleeping arrangements were great for our group - two mothers and two teenagers. The two bedrooms are very comfortable with their own bathrooms. The loft bed is just that - you climb up a 6 foot ladder to get into the loft space which is not high enough to stand up - but it is perfect for a teenager or adults who are OK with a snuggly space. I was glad to have a different bedroom. The futon couch/bed is in an alcove off the bedroom with direct "talking access" to the loft bed. So it is good for a child or teen who gets along with the person in the loft bed. :) The futon did not have enough privacy for my me. The spiral staircase is very cool and leads to the game room, back deck, hot tub, futon alcove, loft bed, and the master bedroom. I would not want a small child or old people using the staircase. There is a queen bedroom and bath on the first floor that does not require use of the staircase. For our group, two friends with two teens, the house was perfect! We all had our own sleeping space and a big kitchen to work together in. Plus we're young enough to shlep all our stuff up that big flight of wooden stairs you see in the photos. Older adults might not enjoy the entrance. Too much detail here - but we loved Eagle Rest and will return in the future. It exceeded our expectations.
My husband and I and three close friends decided to spend the 4th of July in Idyllwild and chose the Eagle Rest largely due to the extremely positive reviews and responsive owner and this property more than lived up to the reviews and our expectations. Everything one could want for a luxury weekend away is in this cabin, from the jacuzzi, a pool table and even a blackjack table and a movie theater popcorn maker. We expected to hike a lot, but the cabin was so much fun we stayed in and played games and watched movies on the Apple TV with fresh popcorn and only made it on one hike. In the morning, we made fresh waffles with the waffle makers! The very responsive owner sent us a great welcome package with details about the cabin and local information on where to go in Idyllwild, his recommendation for Cafe Aroma, including when to go and where to sit, was spot on, it is an awesome restaurant with great live music. The cabin is one of the more expensive properties for its' size on VRBO but it was well worth the money as the amenities, quality of the cabin, furnishings etc were worth every penny! Plus, there was no additional fee for bringing our dog and there were dog beds, blankets, bowls, food dishes and pet toys waiting for our little guy! Our VRBO experiences are always great but this was the best rental yet!
Located a bit over 1 mile to the center of town, the cabin sits high atop a secluded lot, privacy abounds! Idyllwild offers the perfect romantic getaway, the perfect place to relax, the most peaceful serene place for relaxation. The town center boasts amazing restaurants, cute cafes, a rustic theater, antique stores and lots of small town mountain charm. The area is surrounded by national forest, trails for hiking, rocks for climbing and wildlife for watching.
