As an on-going vacationer to the Big Island using vacation rental, we were fortunate to find this home during our 2011 visit. It is private, quiet and peaceful. The weather is perfect since it is at a 2,900 ft elevation that is cool at night and warm during the day. It is as well virtually bug free all year. With an expansive deck around the main house and nearly full length deck across the back of the cottage, outdoor grilling and relaxing makes for a most pleasant stay.
What we believe makes the home is the openness of the living area and large kitchen (we love to cook). Of course the deck a major relaxing spot. A bird house (we supply the feed) on the corner of the deck offers endless bird watching entertainment. The large deck provides great outdoor relaxing. Outdoor grilling is great and is complemented with a good supply of fresh fish (from the local convenience store) as well as steaks or barbequed ribs from local grocery stores.
We love to travel, but enjoy staying in vacation homes when we can, because we don't always adhere to hotel or resort schedules for meals, side trips, etc. We must have researched 20 or 30 homes before selecting this house. We had lots of room to spread out and really "live" in the home, and the kitchen and dining areas are laid out for casual sunset suppers or entertaining friends. The house has a washer and dryer, so you don't have to bring tons of clothes. There is also Direct TV for catching up on the news or favorite programs.
Dayle is a great host. We had the unfortunate experience of having the water pump go out on us, and Dayle arranged with a local contractor to have the pump replaced the next day by the time we returned from our volcano hiking!
This home and location had everything we wanted: peace and quiet, central location to both sides of the island, gas and groceries in the town of Ocean View, amazing sunsets and views of the ocean.
Located on the slope of Manua Loa this property offers a quite refuge from the chaotic tourist area. However, it is conveniently located at the southern point, half way between Kailua Kona and Hilo. It is only 50 miles to Volcano National Park, as well as only 15 miles to green and black sand beaches.
