About The Owner

Moved to Asheville in 1999 after getting tired of driving here from Durham to mountain bike and kayak. Thought I would head back east after a few years but marriage, 3 kids, amazing place to play and work and awesome local microbrew scene changed that initial plan for the far better.

The Owner purchased this house in 2007

Better than expected!

A grandmother and grandfather, a family of five which included 3 girls ages 6, 3 and 9 months, had plenty of room in this very clean and well equipped house. We loved the backyard swing and the swing on the front porch. The crawling 9 month old had loads of room to crawl all over the house. It was so much nicer than staying in a motel or hotel and, best of all, it cost a lot less too! The owner was so helpful when I had a question about how to set up for a dvd. I would definitely stay here again and will recommend to my friends.

My husband and I visited Asheville area to do some hiking and photography and we were very pleased to have stayed at this charming home. The home was very neat and clean and the back yard was large and beautifully landscaped (perfect for our dog). The fresh flowers on the table and dog treats were also a nice touch – thank you! The home is very close to downtown, trailheads and one of our favorite spots in Weaverville – Well-Bred Bakery and Café. We would definitely stay at this property again.

Wonderful Visit to Asheville

My husband was going to Asheville on business and we decided to take our (large) family. Staying at this home made the visit such a pleasant experience.

The home was very clean and much cuter than the photos. The home was very comfortably furnished. The couches were comfortable, the beds facilitated sweet dreams not aching backs, and the kitchen truly enabled us to feed our little army on a reasonable budget. The home was equipped with children's movies, boardgames, and toys which made our rainy weekend very enjoyable. The owner, who is most accommodating, provided a playpen, a stroller, and 2 high chairs for our youngest members. I was very impressed at his consideration.

The home is located about 1-2 miles to Ingles grocery and Fresh Market Grocery. Both of these stores have a vast selection of items which are organic and allergy free. Some wonderful finds were hummus, spelt bread, and vegan cheese. There are several eateries right near the home along with a frozen yogurt bar. The playground in that neighborhood is about 2 blocks away and truly amazing. On the first sunny day, we drove about 4 miles to the Botanical gardens to walk, identify flowers, and play in the creek. Admission to the gardens is free and very beautiful.

Although it is located a couple of blocks off a "commercial corridor", we experienced no issues with traffic. My husband was able to get to a business meeting in downtown Asheville within 10 minutes on a Monday morning at 8AM.

Wonderful stay at charming home!

What a great weekend we had in Asheville! We LOVED this home - it is so charming. It is an older home in a very established neighborhood. The owner has upgraded the kitchens and baths beautifully, but has done it in a way that leaves the original home's charm. Upon arrival, we walked into a living area with dim lights on the mantle. Fresh flowers were on the dining room table, and there were treats for our dog Kaycee. There were so many special touches: 1) wonderful Simmon's matresses with very comfortable sheets and pillows, 2) high end kitchen appliances 3) beautiful hardwood floors throughout 4) flat screen TVs in each bedroom 4)Twining's tea in the kitchen, as well as fresh coffee beans with a grinder, 5) vintage tile in the master bath blended with updated faucets and fixtures 6) antique furniture in several rooms 7) original interior doors and knobs 8) energy efficient washer and dryer 9) wood stove in living area 10) fluffy towels 11) red and white wine glasses (not just the normal "joker" wine glasses), martini glasses and beer glasses 12) several board ga - and that's just the inside!
Outside we found a cozy stone patio with a firepit, surrounded by beautiful flowers, big back yard, front porch with ferns and a bench swing. And we could bring our dog! Dog bowls were ready for us when we arrived. What a special treat- it was a great place for walks down the neighborhood sidewalks.
We had a lovely time and will recommend to our friends. We will be back! What an awesome alternative to a pricey hotel :-)

Easter weekend

Our stay at this property was even more than we had hoped for. The house is large, cozy and nicely decorated. The kitchen is well equipped and stocked with soap, dishtowels, coffee and filters. The beds are comfortable and there is a flat screen TV in each large bedroom and in the living room. There are plenty of fluffy white towels, wash cloths, bath soaps and shampoo. Having a washer and dryer is a convenience much appreciated. The best part about the house for us is the very large backyard! The children enjoyed the swing which is suspended from a branch probably fifty feet above the ground. The yard is big enough for a touch football game and there is a basketball goal in the driveway. We filled the bird feeders with seed and watched the birds which nest in the large hardwood lot behind the house. If the weather had cooperated we would have built a fire in the outdoor fireplace perfect for roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories while sitting in adirondack chairs. A rainy day did not spoil our trip as we were able to spread out and enjoy the WiFi and cable TV. The home is in a nice neighborhood two blocks from a wonderful playground. There is a Fresh Market and a Starbucks about a mile away. The botanical gardens, UNC-A and a bird sanctuary are about two miles away and downtown Asheville another two to three miles. Interstate 240 and 26 are easy to access and we drove to Du Pont State Forest, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the NC Arboretum. On Easter Sunday, we attended the neighborhood's beautiful two hundred year old stone church. We were warmly welcomed by the small congregation and look forward to returning every Sunday that we are in Asheville. It was reassuring to have the mobile number of the owner. We texted back and forth a few times as we settled in. Overall, we felt like guests in the home of friends, tucked into a friendly residential area of one of our favorite cities. This property is nicer than a hotel and no more expensive. The kids love it and want to stay here whenever we visit Asheville. I am thinking of returning without the children for a girls weekend!
