Our home is in sausalito’s unique waterfront community within the vibrant san francisco urban area. Our 2000 square foot, two-story home has wonderful views of mountains, bay, marinas, and sea birds.
Our house is nicely and comfortably furnished, with a fully-equipped, wrap-around kitchen with granite counters, 3 decks with great views, and is light and airy with lots of windows and skylights.
Downstairs, we have two bedrooms and two full bathrooms; the master bathroom is en suite, has double sinks and a combined large marble shower and jacuzzi which can fit 2 snugly. One bedroom also serves as a study. On the top floor there are a sun-filled living room, a modern kitchen, and a breakfast/music room in a full-floor open design with 12' ceilings.
Our home has paintings, photographs, and artifacts from our travels in the us, europe, africa, south and central america. We ask that you take care of them as you would your own things.
This home also has many amenities: hardwood floors, gas fireplace (sf summer nights tend to be cool), multiple open doors and windows (there is no humidity, so there are no mosquitoes), washer/dryer, jacuzzi tub, toto washlet toilet seats, adjustable tempurpedic king bed, piano, 2 bose wave radio/cd players, 3 tvs, wired and wireless internet access, directv with premium channel, dvd player, vcr, tivo, color copier/printer/fax and speaker phone.
We are minutes walk from bay-area public transportation and ferries. Our home comes with free parking. Please note that our home is non-smoking and that we cannot accept pets -- sorry.
The sausalito floating home community is a uniquely relaxing and beautiful setting that provides ready access to san francisco as well as to parks, beaches, and recreation areas of marin county and the napa/sonoma wine country.
We are a retired professional couple. Prior to moving to SF in 2000, we spent most of our professional lives in Washington, DC but are native New Yorkers. We have a second home in Manhattan which allows us to rent out our primary residence from time to time.
Jim worked for many years as a health care researcher in his own business and as part of a research institute. Eve worked for 20 years in the US Senate and managed several statewide political campaigns. After leaving the Senate she's consulted abroad for USAID, lectured and been an adjunct professor of political science.
owner/property manager purchased this house boat in 2000
There are over 400 floating homes in Sausalito and each one is unique. Features that make our home special are its comfort, openness and lightness. There are windows all around, 5 skylights, a large glass door leading to a large deck with extremely comfortable furniture, outdoor dining, and gorgeous views. The deck serves as an extension to the living room and is sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds. The interior design is open so that the entire top floor -- living room, kitchen, and music room -- are interconnected. Our travel artifacts and large collection of books and music make staying here a homey experience. And, like other homes in the area, we are close to recreation, cultural activities, and numerous restaurants.
You can rent a kayak in Sausalito & launch it from deck, if you like, or paddle around the floating home community. You can rent a bike and ride the Marin County bike path, both about a block from our house. You can conveniently visit the City by ferry or car, enjoy the many outdoor activities and scenic areas of Marin County or visit the wine country in less than an hour. You can also stay 'home' in Sausalito, take in the beaches, beauty, restaurants, galleries, shops, gourmet groceries, nearby cinema, playhouses, book stores and other cultural experiences.
We stayed here for eight days to be able to have the family together over Christmas. The location was great, beautiful and close to everything we needed. The houseboat is comfortable and cooking for all of us was a treat in the well stocked kitchen. The community was friendly and comfortable. The owners were gracious and helpful at all times.
We would return here.
The home is comfortable, fairly represented and well located. We originally rented for one month and then renewed for another month.
Awesome! this home has convenience and great style. Complete comfort throughout. The only negative point to recall is that we had to leave.
Highly recommend the unique home. Thanks so much to Eve and her husband for allowing us this great opportunity
We have been staying here for the last 6 years and honestly, it is a very nice place to stay while on vacation. The floating home community is very safe and tranquil and the home is very pleasant and there is a feeling as if you ARE home! Very cool, and we highly recommend it for anyone to stay at.
Eve's attention to detail -- including extensive recommendations for areas to see, grocery shops, and restaurants -- should have prepared us for how lovely the house would be. The long pier, lined by every kind of plant, including lime trees and orchids, led past funky, traditional, and decorated houseboats, each with its own personalty. Entering the door, we stepped in high ceilings, light, two decks, comfortable furniture, and amazing taste. Downstairs, a large master bedroom (with wonderful shower) faced the water. A second cozy bedroom faced the pier. That was only the beginning of the wonderful experience. We hope to return someday and will recommend that all our friends go to San Francisco just to stay there.
In terms of planning, you need a car to drive five or so minutes into town and the Golden Gate ferry - both of which were a treat.
If you've never stayed on a Houseboat, or more accurately a Floating-Home, this is a wonderful opportunity for a unique vacation. The location could not be more convenient to all the sights, activities and restaurants in San Francisco, Marin and Napa/Sonoma. The possibilities are endless. Or, sit and relax on the inviting deck and watch the activities of the shorebirds when the tide is out and the ducks when the tide is in.
This houseboat has an added bonus of a great location on the dock with only one immediate neighbor. The empty space on the other side provides a more open feel and better light and views. There is great morning sun and good light throughout the day. The home is described accurately and is even more pleasant and homey then the pictures show. Hard to capture in photos the open sunny feeling of this boat. The master bathroom is giant and luxurious. Because this is a lived-in home, one needs to be comfortable with the presence of the owner's possessions. Plenty of space was provided for our personal use and Eve and Jim could not have been more accommodating. Their genuine joy of sharing their special home with others was felt even in their absence and added to this unique and rewarding experience.
We hope we will be able to return for future visits and can highly recommend this rental to others.
