Located in the lively and popular Jordaan, this three-bedroom, two-bath apartment offers the perfect Amsterdam experience. Just behind the Noorderkerk (North Church), it is only a five minute walk to the Anne Frank House and just a ten to twenty minute walk to the rest of Amsterdam's major attractions.
The Jordaan is one of the most desirable residential areas in Amsterdam and is popular with locals as well as with tourists. Known for its art galleries, variety of small shops as well as its many cafés, bars, and restaurants, you can always find something to do just outside your front door. On Saturdays you can join the locals and shop at the weekly farmers market located on the street in front of the apartment. Afterwards have a coffee and apple tart at one of the many cafes facing the Noorderkerk. Then you can take a stroll down one of the beautiful canals for which Amsterdam is so justifiably famous. Best of all, because it is a popular residential area, it rarely becomes too noisy at night.
Situated on the first and second floors of an 18th century building, the apartment is light and airy with large windows in every room. The first floor opens up into a large living area, dining area, and large open kitchen. Behind the kitchen is a laundry room with the refrigerator, washing machine and a dryer. The smaller of the two bathrooms is on this floor and has a toilet, and washbasin. The kitchen, laundry room and both bathrooms are tiled with Italian marble.
The beautiful wood spiral staircase is a focal point and takes you up to the second floor where you will find the three bedrooms and the family bath. This staircase is not a tight spiral and by Dutch standards is very generous both in width and steepness. The larger master bedroom has a queen (160x200cm) bed and two chairs that pull out to make single beds. This room can sleep up to four guests. The smallest of the three bedrooms is perhaps the most romantic with its double (140x200cm) iron bed and early 20th century vanity. The medium-size bedroom has 2 single beds (90x200cm each) that can be made up as a king (180x200cm) if requested before your arrival date. This is the room with the up close and personal view of the 17th century bell gable on the house across the street. Quintessential Amsterdam! Also located on this floor is the large family bath with a combination shower/bathtub, double vanity, toilet, and bidet.
This apartment is within easy walking distance of all major tourist attractions and major public transport.
My husband and I recently visited Amsterdam and found this gem of an apartment at the very last minute. We had researched the best areas to stay in Amsterdam through various travel blogs and found Jordaan to be highly recommended. Well, we could not have agreed more. The Jordaan was quiet, but with wonderful bars, restaurants, cafes, and even coffee shops, and was close to all major attractions (i.e., museum quarter, red light district, etc.). There was even a farmer's market on the weekend with fresh produce and delicious meats and cheeses, you know, if you're in to that sort of thing ;) The kitchen in the apartment was absolutely wonderful and had everything we needed to make some delicious meals. All appliances were in perfectly working order and the washer and dryer were very convenient. My husband and I rented bikes from a rental shop a few minutes away and were able to get around perfectly. The neighborhood was extremely safe, and also very beautiful. Within a few minutes walk was a cafe, a handful of restaurants, and two supermarkets. Everything you need is nearby. As far as the comfort of the apartment, the bed, living room furniture, and heating were perfect. It is easy to spend a night in the apartment after a long day of seeing the city. We found the bathrooms, including showers and plumbing, to be nice and spacious. The apartment itself is clean, well stocked, and spacious. The renters of the apartment provided detailed notes regarding transportation, nearby entertainment/attractions, dining, and additional useful information regarding Amsterdam. The renters were very kind, helpful, and responded to us quickly as we were working to book our accommodations on such short notice. We appreciated their assistance just as much as the apartment rental itself. All in all, the location and apartment were truly perfect. We had no issues with this apartment, which was refreshing when compared to a few of our previous stays on our trip through Europe. We would absolutely stay in this apartment again and plan to do so in the future. We highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a great place to stay in a fantastic location.
The listing is accurate on location, amenities and appearance. The property is well maintained and very clean. The owner 's representative is on site to greet you and this turns out to be a big plus. He is very knowledgeable and friendly and made sure we were settled in properly.
The apartment is actually nicer than the pictures- there is a lot of extras that don't appear in the listing. Kitchen is well- stocked. It is like visiting the apartment of a Dutch friend with good taste.
Rooms are very spacious and there is a cross- breeze. The neighborhood is busy and happening- but not noisy.
We would recommend this property to a friend. The Italian restaurant downstairs is nice. The two mainstream grocery stores (5 minutes walk) are fine for basics. There is a really cool store (Marqt) that is 10 minutes walk- all organic with really great produce and stinky cheese. But- expensive.
Ask your greeter about some recommendations. He is a local and gave us a few great tips.
Also- try the Sandeman tour (on newamsterdamtour.com) It is a "free" walking tour and you tip the guide what you think it's worth (5 euro's each?) It meets at the Dam square daily - don't pay ahead to book a spot. Just show up at 11 AM. 2-1/2 hours.
Read the booklet provided by the owner at the apartment. A lot of good tips there.
Stairs up to the apartment are steep and narrow- like every staircase in Amsterdam. Tough for older folks to navigate. But get used to it- virtually every building in the city is the same way.
We rented this apartment for 4 days in March 2013. We had 5 adults staying here and 8 other friends gathering in Amsterdam on our way to Africa. The apartment was incredibly spacious by Amsterdam standards and we enjoyed gathering after a long day of site-seeing to compare notes, have a drink and share a meal. The living area is very spacious and we had enough space to invite our other 8 friends over for a group dinner! The beds were very comfortable; the neighborhood was quiet; and the kitchen was well-provisioned. We cooked almost all our meals in the apartment. The full-sized refrigerator and the washer/dryer were a plus. We had no problems with the bathrooms although we only used the shower upstairs. There is WiFi in the apartment and a local telephone which allowed us to keep in contact with our friends. This was one of the best places we have stayed in Amsterdam and enjoyed it immensely. I highly recommend it for a large group or for a family.
My family and I (4 people) rented the apartment in July for a 3 night stay. The apt is located in the heart of the Jordaan district with plenty of cafes, bars, and restaurants to choose from. There is a pharmacy and supermarket 2 minutes walk from the apt. It is also walking distance to many Amsterdam attractions and public transportation close by.
Now for the the apt itself. Bedrooms and common areas were clean, dusted and adequately furnished. The apt is a duplex with a spiral staircase which is not suitable for small children or anyone with mobility challenges.
The kitchen was equipped; however I had to wipe out the refrigerator before putting in my groceries especially after moving a shelf and finding sticky stuff on the shelf supports.
The main bathroom is older than it looks in the photos. The shower head needed a good soak in vinegar to remove the calcium build up. The extraction fan had a build up of dust on it and the wall near the extraction fan had mildew in the corner. The knob for the tub stopper was missing and the plastic piece that attaches to the knob was cracked.
The second "bathroom" (the reason I rented the apt in the first place!) was a small converted closet. I was told upon arrival that this bathroom should only be used for "short showers". My husband used it the first day and wasn't in the shower but a minute before the drain backed up and threatened to flood the downstairs. We called the manager, who after giving several excuses, called the plumber. The problem was fixed the same day, but I would have thought that if management KNOWS that the shower isn't draining properly that they would FIX the problem when it was first identified and not WAIT until a paying customer reports it.
In summary, good location; okay apartment; needs better cleaning and maintenance.
My two friends and I delighted everyday in having this apartment for our visit. It was so spacious and bright - made the trip extra special. Everything about the neighborhood was perfect - the cafes, shops, markets and the overall beauty of the architecture and canals. Convenient to all, it made out trip extra special. And, everything was seamless from the moment we arrived and met Franklin. Thank you!!
My 3 friends and I stayed at this great apartment for 5 days and loved it. We each had our own bedroom, we enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful living room, and loved the neighborhood. Lots of restaurants, bars, supermarkets, markets, etc. A real neighborhood, not touristy at all. Susan and Franklin (our greeter) thought of everything to make our stay perfect. It's centrally located, we walked to just about everything, and the Central Station is just a 15-minute walk. We can't wait to return.
