About Dawn VanVolkinburg

Both my husband and I grew up near Grand Rapids, MI where we currently live. If we could we would live in Traverse City now but my husband works at a hospital in Grand Rapids and enjoys what he does so we just visit the area as often as we can!

Dawn VanVolkinburg purchased this condo in 2012

Why Dawn VanVolkinburg chose Traverse City

We bought this condo because we both love northern Michigan especially the Traverse City area and have been coming here for years. We plan to retire in the area. In the meantime, we enjoy down time at our beautiful condo on the East Bay. When we can't be at the condo we like to have others enjoy it.

What makes this condo unique

We fell in love with the area because how beautiful the area is. Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Torch Lake, Mission Point and so many other beautiful things to see and enjoy! What kept us coming back is amidst all the beauty are wonderful welcoming people.

Winter Vacation

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay at the condo. After vacationing here for many years in the summer this was our first trip "Up North" during the Winter and we loved it. Dawn was very helpful in answering questions promptly before our arrival. The condo was very clean and cozy. We have two young children and the layout of the condo is perfectly suited for kids. (we brought some outlet covers and cabinet locks) Plus with this rental you get access to the resort so we took advantage of the indoor pool during our stay. We will be back again.

Owner's Response: Thank you Casey and Alisha for taking time to write a nice review! We love having families stay with us because as you said there are many winter activities inside and out to do. With access to the resort's pool, health club and their trails it makes it special any time of the year. We look forward to having you back in the near future!
Best Regards,
Dawn

Winter Wonderland

  • 5 of 5
Most people that don’t do winter sports don't take advantage of this area in the Wintertime and it’s unfortunate. Wintertime in the Traverse City area is superior to Summertime in more than a few ways. For starters, It’s less than half price to stay. That means that you will have more money to spend at the year-round wineries, restaurants, downtown shops, the casino, and gas to venture to surrounding areas. Second, up north Winters are gorgeous. And lastly, there’s way fewer people (to me, this is the best part.) Oh and also, I read that there's a giant shopping/lifestyle development under development less than 2 miles away, which is going to be great.

I like the location of this unit because it’s situated on the East Bay, which means that I’m close enough to Downtown Traverse City to drive there in around 12 minutes, yet far enough away that I can feel much less congested with tourists. People that stay at this resort are much more laid back and outgoing with friendliness and abiding the privacy of others. We love being close to the casino and Grand Traverse Resort campus. The casino is always fun to get some free entertainment and cheap drinks. Also, when you stay with this member’s rental property, you are permitted access to the amenities offered within the Grand Traverse Resort, including $5 pool and fitness use, spa services, and I believe cheaper rates on golfing than if you weren’t staying here.

The landscaping surrounding the condo complex is beautiful. There is a river outlet running through the grounds and it has a bridge that’s great for family or couples photos. The area is maintained diligently and the pool/hot tub are are top-notch. The grounds staff are very pleasant and not in the least bit intrusive. The condo complex is surrounded by a park and a protected woodland area; very cool to explore!

The insides of this rental has undergone significant renovations, including new decor, furniture, paint, and linens. VERY CLEAN! It was a relief to learn that the unit was furnished with wine glasses and a corkscrew (and all other dishes and eating utensils.) We were relieved that the owners cater to wine enthusiasts and Dawn was very knowledgeable of the ins-and-outs of the wineries, breweries, restaurants, and attractions. Dawn always gives us great rates and we always manage to spend less and get more when we stay here. We are looking forward to heading back up at the end of the month for our annual Super Bowl getaway weekend!

Owner's Response: Nick thank you so much for such a great (and informative) review! I couldn't have said it better myself! I agree with you being up north in the "off" season is a special time as the water and sunsets are still amazing yet it's far less expensive and no crowds to deal with! We look forward to having you and your friends stay with us for the super bowl weekend! Thank you again for your kind compliments and for choosing to stay with us when you head north!
Best,

Beach Front in Traverse City

We had a wonderful time at this condo! I lived in the area for 26 years & came back for my first Christmas with my grown children! The condo was perfect in every way! Clean with attention to details. From the extra blankets in the basket- deck furniture- special towels for make up removal & and all of the nessasary amenities in the kitchen - from dishware to spices & wine glasses! I will be back as my experience was so spectacular! Thank you Dawn for everything & even making sure we had all we needed during our stay! I work in the hospitality industry... & this was a 5 Star EXPERIENCE!

Just perfect condo!

  • 5 of 5
This condo is clean, spacious, quiet, well furnished and has a magnificent view of the bay. We felt so pampered and welcome. Although we did eat out often, this kitchen lacked nothing in utensils when we did chose to eat-in. The beds were very comfy
Towels and extra blankets were plentiful. We loved our "digs" and would recommend this condo to one and all.

Called the 'Gold Coast' the Traverse City area is a beautiful place to relax, walk, bike, visit wineries and breweries, go shopping, in the winter you can enjoy the lights and cross country and downhill skiing, watching the waves on Lake Michigan, snow shoeing and snowmobiling. There are activities for kids, adults, singles and couples to enjoy. There are 25 wineries on Leelanau Peninsula and many more on Old Mission Peninsula. Traverse City is also close to Elk Rapids, Alden, Leland, and Suttons Bay, these are quaint towns that are a must visit spring through fall. Torch Lake is a must see! It is one of the world's most beautiful lakes and looks like the Caribbean Ocean! Another must see is Good Harbor Beach miles of soft sand and views of the Manitou Islands and Sleeping Bear Dunes. Sleeping Bear Dunes was rated the most beautiful place to visit in 2011. Charlevoix, Petoskey and Glenn Arbor are all within a 45 minute drive and are a must visit as well.
