OCEANSIDE COTTAGE IN THE TREES - STUNNINGLY PRIVATE, YET SO CENTRAL!

Salt Spring Island Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Water's edge rustic cottage tucked in the woods is Saltspring's best secret!

This is the very best of West Coast Canada!

This romantic cottage has it all. So private, yet close to all the excitement of Ganges Harbour. The famous Saltspring Weekend Market is a 2 minute stroll away along the water's edge. Wonderful art galleries, restaurants, shops, pubs, studios are all within a wander from your private sanctuary in the trees.

There is much to do here for all ages. On the property, there is plenty of exploring to do, and the 300 feet of private beach front to enjoy.

A vast variety of birds and other wildlife make this 4 acre property home. Watch the swans, eagles, hummingbirds, quail and other exotic birds from the beach and expansive veranda. Raccoons, otters, deer and other critters are curious, safe and plentiful.

Off the property, hiking, kayaking, sailing, golfing, fine dining, casual dining, patio drinking, swimming, shopping, scuba diving, a day at the spa, fishing, yoga, farmers markets, etc... are all close at hand.

I guarantee you will love your stay here as much as we do!

WE LOVED IT!

Really close within walking distance to a lot of the stuff we wanted to do so didn't need a car. Cozy home, had everything my wife and I needed. Cool back porch enclosed by big growth trees.

SO HAPPY WE STAYED HERE

  • 5 of 5
The title says it all - "stunningly private, yet so central". What an enchanting little gem. Right on the edge of town, an easy walk to the harbor or one of the many great coffee shops and yet still hidden. Inside the cottage feels like a million miles from anywhere, surrounded as it is by majestic trees and the sound of the nearby stream. Really had a great time and looking forward to going again. df

COMFORTABLE AND CONVENIENT ISLAND RETREAT

  • 4 of 5
We stayed in this cabin for three cool but clear November days. Its location is convenient, at the edge of the Town of Ganges' small commercial core, within easy walking distance of restaurants and shops. While set in woods and close to the water, it should be understood a busy road runs close behind it. Traffic noise was not especially noticeable, however (albeit in winter with the windows closed). The cabin is clean and well-appointed although, as others have noted, the low seating in the living room (and high seating in the adjacent dining area) might be physically challenging for some seniors. Also, the mattress does tend to roll its occupants to the middle of the bed so it does help to like the person you're sleeping with.

House Piccolo warranted two visits for dinner; it is still excellent. A coastal hike at Ruckles Park would be our recommendation for all-season outdoor activity. Mouat's Clothing and Black Sheep Books yielded some shopping treasures.

We would come back and recommend to others.

EXCELLENT LOCATION, BEAUTIFUL SETTING

  • 4 of 5
First, I would l like to say that the correspondence with the owner was excellent.

Directions: If you come from Fulford ferry, as you come into lower Ganges you will see Embers bakery on the left, you need to take an immediate right into a small parking area of the cabin. The highway separates the two (bakery and cabin). We chose this property so that I could walk to a weekend jewellery workshop with Martin (Martinus Jewellry designs). Great course, by the way.

The backyard of this property is like a private cabin in the woods with a stream flowing through and a small wooden bridge. So beautiful. We stayed at this cabin Nov 8th, but there was an issue with the electrical breaker, so we didn't have hot water. The caretakers were awesome as was the owner and they moved us to the main house for the remaining 2 nights with a bottle of wine. Now, the cabin is nothing compared to the ocean front stunning house. This was such an amazing perk for us, we loved our stay in Salt Spring. I am however basing my review on the cabin. Only one issue is that the mattress sloped to the middle of the bed. Otherwise would definitely stay here in this little oasis again.

COZY CABIN IN THE TREES

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed in this cabin this summer and absolutely loved the peaceful setting, the gorgeous forest and beautiful property. The 1 minute walking commute to the nearest bakery (which was open at 5am) and the 5 minute walking commute to the main commerce districts were wonderful.

Cottage was clean and well-equipped with laundry.

COZY FOREST CABIN

  • 4 of 5
The strength of this rental is its closeness to town, yet quiet location in a beautiful bit of forest on the very edge of the business district. The trees and forest vegetation surrounding the cabin and the back deck are beautiful, but they do obscure a view of the harbor. There are no scenic views from cabin windows. The beach is a little distance away through the woods and the yard of an adjoining rental. It is a beach for wading and walking, not sitting and sunning; actually we did not walk the beach, and we did not see other people walking along the shore. Access to the cabin from the street is not particularly attractive, and (older renters note!) involves steps. Access to the rear of the cabin requires opening a rather heavy gate, and walking a narrow side path partially obstructed by tree roots. Though a car is not necessary for enjoying Ganges Harbor itself, it is necessary for touring the island. We would recommend the restaurants at the ferry landings for excellent seafood!

The cabin is clean, has a nice kitchen (no dishwasher), but the furnishings could be improved. The couches have been modified and lowered almost to the floor (difficult for sitting down and standing up), and the bed could use better mattress and box springs.

The caretakers for the cabin were charming and welcoming, most ready to help and answer questions. They are certainly an additional asset!
