Topsail Beach House Rental Photos and Description

Whole house rental, 5 Bedrooms, 4.5.5 Bathrooms (Sleeps 10+)

Dragon Fly, as it is affectionately called, is an amazingly private, quiet, and serene luxury home located on the North East Cape Fear river, about 30 minutes from Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach.

CHECKIN time is 4:00 PM or later on the date of arrival,

and CHECKOUT time is by 10:00 AM on date of departure.

We need this 6 hour time frame, so that we may make the property ready for each new guest.

Built in 2002 by the current owner as a vacation home, this home is the ultimate getaway. A brand new cooks' kitchen, massive deck and screened in porch face the river. A projector + 10' screen for screening films help to make this place very special. The home boasts 5 bedrooms and 3.5.5 bathrooms, with an extra large jacuzzi and walk in shower in the master. Nearly every piece of furniture is antique (circa 1900) and most of the art is from local artists. On the ground floor there is a full pool table, iron gym, and heavy boxing bag. Feel free to take out one of the canoes, or take a quiet walk around the adjacent pond to view the many animals and foliage that call this region home. Ever seen a woodpecker a foot and a half tall? How about Venus Flytrap, carnivorous plants that only grow within a 75 mile radius of our house and nowhere else in the entire world!

Throw horse shoes, or enjoy sitting by the Asian fire pit as you grill steaks over a real hardwood fire. A massive porch fronts the house and faces the river, of which a section is screened in.

We do not have good TV reception or Internet service, due to our secluded location. Actually, we hope that our guests really enjoy being 'unplugged' while here, off the grid! After all, why come to an Eco-paradise to sit inside and watch TV?

The property comes with a caretaker in the event of questions or additional needs. Catering can be arranged.

Thank you very much for your interest.

About Cliff Davis

We are a family from this area. My people settled in this area in 1640, emmigrating from Scotland, England and Wales nearly 400 years ago. We built this home in 2002 for our personal use, and went to great lengths to use only the finest building materials, sparing no expense to create an environment that is top quality. I grew up in this area, swam in this river as a child as did all my forbearers, and wanted to create a legacy property that my family will continue to enjoy for another 400 years. Permanent quality is what we enjoy... Only the best!

Cliff Davis purchased this house in 2002

Why Cliff Davis chose Topsail Beach

This area is an Eco-paradise, great bird watching, a pristine rural riverside setting with wonderful beaches nearby (Wrightsville, Topsail, and Hempstead). In this day of hustle and bustle, it is still nice to know that a dirt lane still exists that can transport you to another place in time.

What makes this house unique

Several things make this location so unique and desirable.

Although we are deep in the woods, fronting a gorgeous river, we are only six minutes from Interstate 40. The nearby town of Burgaw has all the charm of a beautiful southern village, antiques and old timey stores, yet we are only 30 minutes fron the bustling seaport of Wilmington, sometimes referred to as a mineature Charleston, S.C. Our area practically oozes with ancient cypress trees, hanging Spanish moss and ante-bellum charm.

Quiet Easter!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Mr. Davis's property. We had 8 adults, one child, and a dog. Everyone had plenty of space and was very comfortable in the house. We enjoyed the canoe, walking the property, and having fires each night. It's had every thing we needed - close to beaches, yet far away from the hustle and bustle of summer beach home places. Lots to do near by, or just relax in the rocking chair. My favorite was reading in the hammock under the gazebo. (Caught a few naps there too.) Absolute must for a true getaway on a gorgeous little river. Views are so picturesque.

Family Weekend on the Cape Fear River

  • 5 of 5

When my family was celebrating Christmas I mentioned that I would like for us to get together more often. Our family, like most others, is always so busy and we don't get together as often as we would like. Everyone was in agreement so I started my search and by accident I stumbled across this beautiful place and I am so thankful that I did! This house and it's secluded location is simply beautiful! My wife and my two kids, my parents and my sister and her husband and their two kids spent a much needed weekend just being together. The house with it's five bedrooms met our needs very nicely! The house includes a beautiful stone fire pit that we thoroughly enjoyed, a canoe to explore the river, a pool table, a lovely screened in porch, a large move screen and so much more! But most importantly we simply enjoyed just being together. It did rain one day but the layout of the house is such that everyone had plenty of room to move around and still enjoy the day. As other reveiwers have mentioned, I can't say enough good things about the owner. Mr. Cliff Davis never seemed to tire of my questions. He was able to stop by on the day we arrived and I really enjoyed meeting him in person. If you are looking for a getaway I strongly urge you to visit this beautiful place! My family looks forward to visitng again!

Ahhh! Heaven

  • 5 of 5

We hated to leave this home. The views are breathtaking and had forgotten how many stars are in the sky which can be seen 360 degrees in the 3rd floor bedroom. The master bedroom - well, you just do not want to leave this room with the picture window that faces the river. We live in Wilmington and wanted to unplug and get away which was exactly what this property is designed for, although our cells did work if we wanted to call someone. The owner, Cliff Davis, went above and beyond! He is practically a celebrity in that town and had a welcome book with everything you could ever want to know about the area along with reviews on places to visit and things to do. It was hard to leave and we will be back! Thank you for an amazing, revitalizing stay!

Owner's Response: Oh, but you are too kind! We are so glad that you had a nice Valentines' visit at Dragonfly. When we built the house, I envisioned the top cupola room as an artists' studio, with light coming in from all directions, hence the 360° view. It seems that it works well for astronomy too! Since we own the side lot as well, many an evening finds me out there star gazing as well, right near the horseshoe pit. Very little light pollution where we are. Please come back soon, ...we appreciate having you stay at Dragonfly house. Sincerely, Cliff Davis

Fantastic secluded river house!

  • 5 of 5

Our family has never been able to get everyone together for a vacation before until we found a rare week where everyone was available. We found this place and it was perfect for our dates and our bedroom requirements. The place was very nice and well-maintained. Cliff, the owner, was super friendly and very helpful in getting everything squared away. I'd definitely recommend this place. The value for the price is amazing.

It's only 30 minutes to the beach too, so if you're not one for sitting on the beach all day, but just a visit or two this is perfect. There's not much nearby though and basically no cell phone access and no internet, so bring some board games and come prepared to be unplugged for your stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind remarks and feedback. Dragonfly is such a quiet eco-paradise. Having the river right there in the front yard is a plus, and having several beaches within a half hours' ride is perfect for daily jaunts. We are glad you had a good time being "unplugged." It really is a slice of heaven for sure. We hope you will come back again! Best regards, Cliff Davis

Guys Trip

I would like to say this was a wonderful place. The house was clean, plenty of room for a party of 9, and the fishing was awesome. The decks are wonderful sitting out in the evening and the fire pit excellent.

Owner's Response: Keep talking about the great fishing and you'll make me envious of the good time you guys had! This stretch of the North East Cape Fear River is known for excellent fishing... Bream, Catfish and Bass. I wonder if you cooked some of those tasty fish over the fire pit, next to the river? Sounds like you had a great time. Please keep us in mind for your next "men's outing." We will be expecting you here at "Dragonfly." Best regards, Cliff.

Wonderful Home on the River

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home for the weekend and it was way more than we expected. The house was clean and comfortable. Each room had its own bathroom which was great for personal space. The furniture in the house was beautiful with many antique pieces to enjoy. The screened porch helped the bugs stay away as we enjoyed the beautiful view of the river! We would definitely recommend this house if you are looking for a peaceful getaway. We hope to rent it again soon!

Dragon Fly is situated in a peaceful, rural setting that is an eco-paradise! We are located directly on the Northeast Cape Fear river, and are a short 35-40 minute drive from some of the most beautiful beaches in North Carolina. The ultimate getaway for nature lovers.

We are only 5 miles outside of Burgaw, N.C. Burgaw is a small charming town, the seat of Pender County, the last of 100 counties to be created in North Carolina.

Our town also happens to be the movie location for the current CBS hit show, 'Under The Dome.' The movie studio is in Wilmington.

Burgaw is the quaintest small town, like going back in time to 'Mayberry' with Andy and Barney. It is on the Civil War Trail, and boasts the oldest railway station in North Carolina, built circa 1850.

The fire pit in the front yard, next to the river, is wonderful. We imported large river rocks from the mountains of N.C., that can seat 16. Wood is available to build campfires. Also we have andirons, grate and a huge steel mesh grill surface to cook on the open fire. This is where we cook steaks over real hardwood, roast oysters and have our pig pickings. Probably my most favorite place to sit on cool nights, eating marshmallows and telling ghost stories.
