Completely renovated Gulf-front/beach-front cottage allows you to rest or play as much as you want and literally get away from it all. Enjoy spectacular sunsets from the screened porch that will make you feel like you're on a luxury cruise ship plying the tropics. Walk the beach from one end to the other collecting sea shells or swimming or sunbathing.
The home is smartly and comfortably furnished. The bathroom allows you to take a shower while looking out to the Gulf and beach. Bedroom furniture is relaxing and new. Prepare meals in the kitchen while gazing out to the Gulf and sparkling white-sand beach or while visiting with family on the screened porch or in the living room.
Home is a perfect get-away for major holidays or an FSU football game. Or drop a child off at an FSU camp while you and your spouse stay a week at the beach! The cottage is great for a family of four or two couples. Relax and do nothing but watch dolphins and walk the beach or fish or jet ski or play golf nearby or go antiquing at nearby towns (Carrabelle, Crawfordville, Apalachicola) and of course, come to eat the best and freshest seafood in the world!
Was first introduced to Alligator Point by local friends from Tallahassee in the mid-1990's and have been coming to Alligator Point every year since for the Memorial Day Weekend Captain Jack Fishing Tournament that is held at the Alligator Point Marina. By the way, you must visit the End Of The World Oasis at Alligator Point Marina and have a deep fried Grouper sandwich -- the absolute best! And if you catch it, they'll even fry it up fresh!
Chris purchased this cottage in 2011
Because of my familiarity with Alligator Point and the many good times I've had here, decided to finally buy a home. After visiting several homes, all it took was one time out on the screened porch of my cottage to know that this was the place. I always feel like I'm right over the Gulf when sitting on the screened porch. And not only are the sunsets spectacular, but nights with a full moon are also just as stunning!
The views of the gulf and the beach are priceless not to mention the times that I've been able to sit on the screened porch sipping my favorite beverage and actually watch dolphins swim almost onto the beach as they feed in the very shallow water. Absolutely beautiful!
This was the perfect spot for us. No neighbors- one side was an empty lot the other a house up for sale. Few people on beach but enough to socialize with and be friendly. As other have written water shoes are essential in ocean in front of house-a couple of large rocks/ cement
blocks were found. A walk down the beach was great for shell gathering and a sand bar a couple doors down was the best for seeing live star fish, sand dollars and a variety of shells and crabs. Bird and fish watching was spectacular.
The house was clean and extremely pleasant. Kitchen was well stocked with pans and utensils. The screened in porch was by far the best part of the house-always a breeze We lived out there if not on the beach.
The owner was very accommodating and quick to respond to our emails once we were there.
Nice place to getaway from it all! House is very comfortable for 2 people. The house needs to provide sheets that will stay on the bed. Other than that everything was great. Visited nearby Panacea and ate at Costal Restaurant twice. Great place for local seafood and excellent deserts! Looking forward to returning to Alligator Point in the future.
The property is clean, newly updated, and well-furnished. It truly is even nicer than in the photos. The view is magnificent and the water is so close that you forget you aren't on a boat. This was one of the most relaxing vacations that I have ever taken. My family felt as though we were in our own private world. I would definitely rent this property again in the future.
The owner is great. The house is almost right over the water, so birds fly right in front of your face on the screened-in porch. You can hear the waves throughout the house. I saw the following: many dolphins, an eagle, a loggerhead turtle, horseshoe crabs, a sting ray, many brown pelicans, sand cranes, egrets, seagulls, and other birds I can't identify.
My wife and I went with my parents for a week, and we all agreed it was excellent. It's very peaceful and relaxing, but you can still stay connected with WiFi if you choose (I did just to learn about the animals I was seeing).
We saw a dolphin almost beach itself chasing a huge mullet. It made a huge noise and splash, and the mullet flew out of the water onto the beach. The dolphin was fine, and after a minute of flopping around so was the mullet.
My wife and I swam out front several times. You should bring/buy some water shoes (we got ours at the Crawfordville Wal-Mart for $9). There are bits of concrete/stone in the water, probably due to erosion and Hurricane Dennis. But the shoes will also increase your courage when stepping in that soft sand (before I bought my shoes I stepped on a fish once and made a noise I'm not proud of). And make sure you shuffle your feet to alert the horseshoe crabs you are there. I saw two horseshoe crabs and one baby sting ray at the edge of the water. But the best was when I saw a loggerhead turtle poke his head out of the water. He looked right at me, and he was less than 20 feet away! He was beautiful.
I get that the beaches at St. George are beautiful, but the wildlife in Alligator Point is spectacular. We also saw a baby bald eagle, and once he landed on our house and we thought the roof would cave in (he was huge). I saw him catch fish twice.
We brought most of our food, and only left the house twice. This house is in an amazing place, and I highly recommend any fans of marine life to stay here. Walking up and down the beach, we realized this porch had the best view/location for miles.
I'm sure I'm forgetting to mention something. The main points are that this house is in a great location, the wildlife is abundant because of the cloudy water, and it's one of the most peaceful places to stay on the Gulf Coast of Fla. Thank you Chris for letting us stay in your house.
The two of us stayed in this rental beach house for one week. We had an absolutely amazing time! The home is right on the beach and it is very quiet and private. The first morning when I woke up I was like a kid on Christmas. I ran to the porch to look out at the ocean. Every single morning we saw dolphins from the porch. We discovered they were feeding over the sand bar. When the tide was low the sand bar would appear and we would walk out there to explore and swim! It was the coolest experience! There was a lot of wildlife (birds, turtles, star fish, sting ray, jelly fish, dolphins, lizards, etc.) It was incredible to see. We went to Wakulla River state park and did the boat tour which was awesome because the water was very clear and we saw a family of manatee!! We had a great time on this vacation and have raved about it to all our friends.
Our family of 6 had a wonderful week of adventure while staying in this home! The owner was always very quick to respond to our questions prior to arrival and the home was just like the pictures portrayed it to be when we arrived. It was very clean and everything functioned well during our stay. The screened-in porch was our favorite hangout: no bugs!! We were entertained by dolphins every morning. Beach combing for shells and different marine life kept all of us fascinated. The home, it's placement so close to the water, it's cleanliness and a great experience with the owner all contributed to an amazing vacation for our family and as such we give our highest recommendation for the property.
On a side note, we did not swim in the waters directly in front of the property. The water along Alligator Point is rather murky due to the tannins released from pine trees. On the downside, the shoreline is a bit "dirty looking"; on the upside, the wildlife, creatures and shells that were in abundance were FAR greater than other beaches not to mention you nearly have miles of beach to yourself! We simply drove over to Carrabelle or St George Island (20-40 minutes) to swim and it was a perfect combination for us. Even now knowing the waters are as such, we would still do it the same to be able to get the peaceful beach to ourselves complete with the wildlife and an amazing view!
Located just South of Tallahassee, Alligator Point is a non-commercial beach made up of single family vacation homes. There are no commercial enterprises(other than the marina) on the peninsula. Most the time you feel like you have a private beach all to yourself. It's like taking a step back in time.
There is ample wildlife to observe, miles of beach to explore and close to restaurants and shopping. The fishing is great right off the beach or on any number of charter boats in nearby Panacea or Carrabelle. It is adjacent to a State Park and federal wildlife area with picnic areas and hiking trails. Also, Wakulla Springs State Park, the Panacea Gulf Aquarium and the pre-Civil War port town of Apalachicola are all terrific day trips.
