On the other side is is the dark cave where King Nestor kept his livestock and semi-circular Voidikilia beach, voted one of the top ten beaches in the world by the New York Times in 2010. Because of UNESCO status it remains undeveloped and uncrowded.

We are sheltered from the open sea by the island of Sphacteria, where the Athenians finally defeated the Spartans in 425bc and the Spartans camped on our beach !
