Overview

Amandola Villa Rental Photos and Description

Light and Spacious 2-3 bedroom house, tranquil garden close to Medieval Piazza

Casa della Luna has been recently restored to a high standard with warm maple wood floors on top levels accessed by softly-lit travertine staircases and lies in a quiet lane in the historic center of Amandola, a few minutes walk from the medieval piazza.

The villa retains original 19th century stenciled and domed ceiling, oak beams and an open fireplace in the living room that leads to a pretty patio with a fountain for al fresco dining and a tranquil garden with a palm tree, flowering jasmine, roses and fruit trees.

Set over 3 floors with 2 large and airy double bedrooms, a 3rd bedroom/study and 3 bathrooms, the bedrooms offer breathtaking views over rooftops and church spire, beautifully lit at night, to the changing vistas of the Sibillini mountains beyond, which offer walking and hiking on well marked paths suitable for all levels of fitness and other outdoor activities.

The middle floor has a relaxing living-dining room and galley kitchen leading directly onto the patio and garden, offering space to relax away from the bustle of main piazza with its historic café-bar, delicious gelateria, a convenient small supermarket with well stocked delicatessen, bakery, banks with ATMs and other small shops.

The sandy beaches of the Adriatic and, in winter, ski slopes, are less than an hour’s drive away, as are many pretty neighbouring medieval hill towns and villages with year-round festivals of food, wine, jazz, theatre, opera. Amandola is renowned for its truffles and every November a truffle festival is held in the main square with music and local produce.

The sandy beaches of the Adriatic coast are just 30-40 minutes away by car as is a freshwater lake with its own beach. In winter skiing is available in neighbouring Sarnano.

This area of Le Marche is truly an undiscovered gem with stunning scenery and a warm welcome by the local people.

About Christine

After travelling the world as a writer and correspondent for more than twenty years I was looking for a place of beauty and peace in Italy, a country I know well, in which to rest and recuperate whenever possible. I stumbled on this beautiful corner of Le Marche by accident and, though I had spent years looking at properties to renovate in Tuscany and Umbria, was convinced almost immediately this was the place I wanted my Italian haven to be. The moment I walked up the stairs in this historic old house, long abandoned before I arrived, and saw the stunning views it offered, combined with its rare sense of peace, I was smitten. The process of renovation revealed some extraordinary surprises which I have written about. The link to this article can be sent on enquiry.

Why Christine chose Amandola

This area of Le Marche is quite unique with its combination of stunning views at every turn, easy access to country walks - both gentle and challenging - in the unspoilt surroundings of a national park, together with access to areas of great historical interest and and also the coast. I had not initially planned to buy a town house, but after winding my way along too many narrow country lanes and dirt tracks to reach country properties, especially at night, I realised it was the gentler pace of Italian life I wanted to savour and what better way to do that than in the heart of a small community. All the feedback I have had from past guests has mentioned how welcoming those in the area have been - helping where possible, if asked, yet respecting privacy in this unusually secluded house too.

What makes this villa unique

The unique advantage of this property - appreciated and commented upon by all those who have stayed in the past - is the fact that you can stroll out of the house and down to the main square in a few minutes for a morning coffee and again in the evening for an meal or aperitivo without having to worry about getting in a car. There is also a secluded garden and terrace for outside dining. All the rooms in the house are unusually spacious and airy and the property has been furnished as a second home not as a rental property so is warm and welcoming and well equipped.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We immediately felt at home within minutes of arrival. Reading through the visitors book was a brilliant move with many helpful suggestions. Should you be sitting on the terrace and see something larger than a bee amongst the geraniums it's more than likely the resident Humming-bird.

Smaakvol en comfortabel huis; zeer privé

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful house, great location, fantastic holiday

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (two boys aged 14 and 11) stayed at the house in Amandola for 9 nights this August and could have stayed much longer! It is a lovely house with large rooms and good living space. The way the kitchen opens on to the garden on one side and the living room on the other is a delight. It is a very comfortable and incredibly relaxing environment situated right in the old town amidst cobbled lanes and Italian village life. We spent wonderful days walking and cycling in the Sibbillini mountains and swimming in beautiful mountain lakes (with very few other people around). The area feels untouristy and you get a little slice of authentic Italian life. Expect to eat lots of gelati and pizza and gorgeous handmade pasta from the local artisan pasta-maker! Coffee in the mornings on the beautiful square and the perfect cold beer in the early evening watching local life pass by was just perfect. You will love it.....

A week in a delightful hilltop town

  • 4 of 5

My family and I spent a wonderful week in this lovely town house in June this year. The property is well located about 3 minutes walk from the town piazza where a number of cafes and bars can be found. The house provides all that is required for self catering and has some lovely features. The rooms are spacious and well furnished and the terrace is a little oasis of calm.

The town of Amandola has a good range of shops and three supermarkets. Our favourite eating places were the cafe Remisso for pizza and the restaurant bella napoli for devine pasta and meat dishes. The locals are very friendly and the town is well situated for day touring by car as there are plenty of interseting hill top towns in the area. The grand piane ( a valley of wild flowers in the hills) is well worth a visit and the town of Norcia offers a delicious range of local cheese and meet. For walkers, a visit to the gola del infernaccio is recommended.

The owner provided very good service throughout and we enjoyed a truly special holiday in Amandola.

Casa della Luna is a short short stroll from the medieval piazza of Amandola where you can enjoy an evening aperitivo and delicious meal under the stars in the heart of Italian life – with musical concerts in the square and jewel-box theatre La Fenice, plus other folklore celebrations in summer – surrounded by the stunning Sibillini Mountains, situated in the centre of Italy on the Adriatic side of the Apennines. This means day trips to near-by jems like Ascoli, Macerata, Jesi and even Assisi, Perugia, Todi and Urbino are easily enjoyed, making the wealth of Renaissance art - by Crivelli brothers, Piero della Francesca et al - varied local cuisine, history, jazz and opera close at hand. There are lively beaches on the coast and interesting designer outlet stores in the area including Prada, Tod’s and Armani. In winter there is skiing at Sarnano/Sassotetto 15 minutes away. This is truly an area with great appeal all-year round and catering to all tastes and interests.
