Family owned for 12 years, 'The Shelter' is our favorite place to relax and get away from the stress of the world.
Our family has been coming to Chebeague for 40 years and will continue to enjoy the island for generations to come.
Just love this unique and beautiful spot on Chebeague Island. My hosts could not have been kinder or more thoughtful - they were very helpful as I acclimated to island life. The Shelter is comfortable, yet campy, with a great view - and a neat fire pit to relax around at the end of the day. I only brought my food with me - everything else I needed was provided.
The islanders I met were so kind and interesting, and always ready to share a story or information about their island life. I had family members and a friend join me on some days of my visit and they were enchanted. My son, daughter-in-law and 12 year old grand daughter brought their bikes over on the ferry and spent a great day on the island.
I have two dogs and they just thrived on this vacation. I am so greatful to have such a wonderful place I could bring them to, as well. We all have wonderful memories!
We (2 adults and a small dog) spent the last week of August on Chebeague Island (our first time) at this lovely, quaint property. Rustic and casual but perfectly comfortable and well equipped. The cabin is close to the Chebeague Island Inn and the golf course. It's one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever had and great first taste of Maine.
We had a great time at the camp! Staying here is like staying in the best screened-in porch you've ever seen. This is the perfect place for a couple or a very small family. My daughter and I loved it. I had first gone to Chebeauge when I was a little girl and had always wanted to return. So, after 30 plus years I was back! "The Shelter" was a great fit for us. The perfect amount of comfort and yet still with a kind of camping sensibility. We hope to come back next summer and stay for longer!
Such a cute property. The pictures on line don't do this place justice. The owners did a great job including just enough of the right details to make our stay comfortable. We are a young family with a dog, and we all left the island relaxed after having the best time. You can swim right off the property. Our cell phone reception was great. Definitely get a bike from Max right as you get there. Make friends with the lobster guy immediately. We were buying lobster in bulk, it was so cheap. If it's possible to get sick of lobsters, the locals turned us onto Maine shrimp. You can get them up at the Clam shack.
