Chipping Campden Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Roomy Comfort In Extremely Well Equipped Courtyard Cottage. 2 Bed/2bath.

Drive into a completely private courtyard and find the delightful Sansome House Cottage - a conversion of a 1760's farm building into a charming vacation cottage with all modern amenities. This honey coloured stone cottage lies opposite the main former farmhouse, with tumbling flowers at the door. The interior style is small English country house - Persian rugs lie on wooden floors downstairs, antique furniture sits happily with modern pieces and the whole place oozes comfort and peace. You will be surprised at how roomy it is inside..a large rustic-style kitchen is so well-equipped that we doubt you will be asking for more (but you are welcome to borrow if we have missed something out!). This is also the eating area, with a big farmhouse table and chairs, although there is a small table in the hall that could be used for formal dining if you prefer. Doors from the kitchen lead to a small completely enclosed garden with garden furniture for sunny days and a BBQ. The downstairs cloakroom/bathroom has a loo, basin and shower cabinet.

The sitting room boasts plenty of comfortable seating (2 sofas and armchair) grouped around an open log fireplace and has a 40' HDTV with all the normal digital channels (not Sky). There are DVDs and CDs and a large collection of books available for your stay. There is an ipod dock also. Up quite a steep staircase (not suitable for small children or people with balance difficulties) is the landing, off which are two bedrooms and a bathroom. The bath is large and has grip handles.

The main bedroom (with TV) and dressing room off, is spacious, with a brand new King ('Superking' in England) bed which is made up as Austrian Twins (two matresses on the same frame) with separate downy duvets so it suits close friends as well as couples. (Also no nocturnal duvet snatching possible!). There is a small sofa, two chests of drawers and hanging space. There is an extra hand basin in the dressing room. The second bedroom has two single beds, chest of drawers and hanging space. All beds have cosy down and feather duvets and pillows, pure white cotton sheets and very comfortable (so I have been told many times!) mattresses.

There is free access to WiFi and the first basket of logs is complimentary. In addition I provide starter supplies of all the basic household items and staples, such as loo paper, soap, foil, cling film, tea, coffee, herbs and much more.. to save you having to shop for essentials straight away. There is a farm, a minute's walk away, where you can buy milk and eggs. Candles and a complimentary bottle of wine is waiting for your dinner. Basically, it is all set up as a home from home from the off so you can walk through the door and feel you are not missing anything (except maybe your dog and family....) and can feel completely comfortable in YOUR Cotswold cottage for the duration of your stay. Children over five are welcome but the cottage is unsuitable for those under five.

We live in the main house on the other side of the courtyard (a lawn and cherry tree between us!) and are nearly always on hand to give help and advice if required but of course leave you to enjoy your holiday without intrusion. The cottage is well stocked with leaflets and suggestions of places to visit which I keep current, as well as walking, driving and cycling maps.

From April to October there is a minimum booking period of a week unless I have gaps created by people staying longer. There is a maximum occupancy of 4 and children over five are welcome.

Please google to find reviews of Sansome House Cottage! People have to jump through hoops to leave reviews here so I am reluctant to ask them but several have already kindly already done it! The calendar is kept up to date so please check before enquiring for a particular period. I am always on email!

I have run this cottage as a holiday let since we refurbished it in 2005 ( and of course it is renewed and maintained on an ongoing basis). I jigsaw my lettings with my other property - an apartment for 2 in Dublin also advertised on VRBO Prop.405713 You will find 31 5* reviews for the cottage(under Chipping Campden holiday rentals).

Felicity Ausden purchased this cottage in 1979

We live opposite in the 'big' house where we have brought up our four children since moving from London in 1979. Our proximity allows us to look after our guests if needed, so as long as we are not away (it is pretty rare that at least one of us is not on hand) we are right there to give help and advice and of course assist in emergencies. We do of course completely respect your privacy.

This is in the perfect position in the centre of England to make as a base and we have had several visitors, predominantly North Americans and Australians, who have stayed 3 weeks or more and done day trips to places such as Wales, London, Cambridge and Salisbury. Ilmington is unique in being the only village in Warwickshire which is in the Cotswolds being on the borders of the counties of Oxfordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire so we have Stratford to the North and a myriad of famously pretty villages to the South - Chipping Campden, Broadway, Moreton in Marsh, Stow on the Wold and many more. We are three miles from the most visited garden in England at Hidcote Manor, designed by an American, Lawrence Johnston. Blenheim Palace, home of the Dukes of Marlborough and birthplace of Winston Churchill is half an hours drive at Woodstock and a 'must see' both for its gardens and the palace itself.

There is walking on the doorstep and I guarantee that you will be blown away by the view from Campden Hill, the road out of the village. If you want to hire cycles they can be delivered from a local hire place and you have safe storage in the garage for them.

I have just returned from three weeks at this lovely cottage and highly recommend it to those seeking tranquility and beauty with easy access to many of the features of the Cotswolds. The cottage is attractive and comfortable and was in pristine condition when we arrived. Felicity the owner, was kind and helpful in every way possible and a delight to get to know. The village provides the loveliest walks between drystone walls sprouting with flowers and a very good pub. It is the kind of place that you long to return to.

One of the best! Sansome Cottage is spot-on as a getaway home; warm, welcoming and fully appointed. Felicity, our host was most welcoming, helpful and organized too. Obvious that she knows what guests prefer. Great location in the small hamlet of Ilmington in the heart of the Cotswolds. Quaint is an over used term by the tourism industry….but it certainly applies here. Two good pubs for local dining, great places for country walks, and only a short ride to Oxford & Stratford. Thanks Felicity for a great vacation getaway.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review! My research into "what guests prefer" is partly gleaned from the guests themselves and partly because we ourselves rent self catering establishments when we holiday, so it is therefore easier for me to get into the minds of my own guests and recognise what is needed and also what is really nice to have as a bonus! I try to go that little bit further.

Two friends and I stayed at Sansome Cottage for three nights and absolutely loved it. We all agreed it was the best vacation rental we had ever visited, and felt like we were being put up in a friend's home. The cottage is beautiful and fitted out perfectly, with quality furnishings. Typically, this is not the case in other rentals. Our hostess couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We just loved the area and enjoyed driving to the many lovely villages. We also went to Highgrove for a tour of Prince Charles' gardens. Definitely worth the visit, even in autumn and in the rain! My friends and I all agreed that we want to come back for a longer stay!

Owner's Response: Another happy party of girlfriends taking a break together and so good to hear they felt at home and enjoyed themselves despite it being rainy. Note for those thinking of visiting Highgrove - you have to book online in advance and bring photographic identification with you for the tour!

I have rented many vacation homes around the world from vrbo, and this is the best. It's like your perfect English countryside dream to be there. Quiet, cute, meticuously clean and surrounded by cows and sheep among amazing Cotswold villages. The pictures and description don't do the location or cottage justice. The linens are generous and top quality. The beds are very comfortable. The cottage is equipped with everything your could need or imagine needing. I've never had beautiful silver and china for rental eating utensils. The owner, Felicity is overthetop thorough. There are binders with hikes, maps, and activities. She bakes bread and leaves freshly picked berries. She has many dvds, the most appropriate for us was the collection of "Downton Abbey" since we had just toured Highclere Castle. Any questions or concerns before the renting are quickly and completely answered and Felicity is available anytime for help. There are vacationers who return over and over to Sansome; I consider myself lucky to have obtained a booking. Activities in the area: Benheim Palace; Stratford/Shakespeare, Burford Garden Center, every village (Chipping campden, Stowonthewold etc), Hidcote Gardens; afternoon tea; hikes everywhere. I highly recommend this cottage and location for anyone wanting an English countryside amazing experience.

Owner's Response: I love that this happy party of girlfriends liked our cottage and the countryside so much! I have to warn, though, that provision of berries and other produce from the garden are subject to the seasons, vagaries of the weather, time available for picking and digging and of course the many species of wildlife who think they should be in on the sharing process! There are some lean times....but there is always jam.

Sansome Cottage is the perfect place to stay in the Cotswolds. Set in a lovely, quiet village away from the crowds, yet a short drive from Stratford, the cottage is cozy and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. The owners live across a large, circular drive and welcome visitors with fresh flowers, homemade bread and jam, and champagne. While careful of your privacy, they are pleased to provide information on the area. We recommend Sansome Cottage highly!

We recently spent a week in Illmington at Sansome Cottage. It was outstanding! It was a perfect set up for a family of four. A nice big king size bed for the adults and then 2 twins for the children (ours were 10 and 13). The linens are white and just beautiful. The owner (Felicity) has thought of your every need! We arrived to freshly baked bread and homemade jams. The DVD's at the cottage are almost all British related - so that gets you in the mood also. There is a picnic blanket and a small cooler in the kitchen closet to make a picnic. The kitchen is very well equipped and had everything we needed. The local Tesco is about 20 minutes away. We cooked at the cottage 4 of our 7 nights b/c it was so clean and well equipped with the right pots and pans. There is a sheep farm next door and a public walking path thru it so the girls enjoyed visiting the sheep and giving them very small pieces of bread. By the end of the week, the sheep would come running up when they saw us. :) This is the cottage for you! I have rented several places from VRBO all over Europe and was the best rental yet. The owner really keeps the cottage well maintained and clean. She lives in the house across the way. The outside garden is lovely. The washer and dryer worked great also.

Now, let's talk about the area! There is a ton to do! Blenheim Palace is close by, so is Stratford Upon Avon. The best walk is the one to Ebrington Arms for lunch and then back around the loop past the house with the garden... It's about a 7 mile hike. It was awesome. The village of Broadway is wonderful. Every little village has something special and is fun to see. We had no problem finding wonderful things to do everyday.

Come to the English country side and enjoy this special spot in a perfect cottage.

Owner's Response: Goodness - I hope we can live up to this great review!

We are always especially pleased to hear that children ( particularly
girls at the age when most really just like shopping and chatting!)
have enjoyed a taste of Cotswold rural life and hats off to them for
taking a SEVEN mile hike, taking in the National Trust gardens at Hidcote Manor (only 3 miles by road!). There are plenty of shorter walks for the less fit, in the area, of course!

Blenheim Palace at Woodstock is 30 minutes drive and of course the
wonderful City of Oxford and all it has to offer only 15 minutes
further on from there, making for a very full day out but both
actually warrant a full day to themselves.

We are lucky to have a Waitrose Supermarket only 10 minutes drive so
you don't have to go into Stratford if you just want to shop and run
and they will deliver too, as will Tesco's, M and S and others. For those wanting to eat out it is worth knowing that the local 'gastropub' takes 10% off the bill for those staying with us.

The Cotswold hills are designated as an area of natural beauty and our village, Ilmington, equidistant from beautiful Chipping Campden and historic Shipston on Stour (4 miles) lies on the northern edge of the AONB. Bustling and touristic Stratford upon Avon (7 miles), home of the Bard, Shakespeare offers a wealth of attractions - theatres, museums, excellent shopping opportunities and boating on the River Avon. Many wonderful Cotswold towns and villages, such as Stow on the Wold, Broadway, Bourton on the Water, Burford are within an easy drive and Ilmington itself is a hidden gem. It is a quiet village, off the main roads, with winding footpaths between the predominantly 17th and 18th Century golden-coloured Cotswold stone buildings, a Saxon/Norman Church, and a manor house, complete with ancient fish ponds. Most of our visitors come to enjoy the beauty of the Cotswolds, whether it is to visit the many great houses and gardens open to the public, the historic places of interest or to take drives, hikes or to cycle through the glorious countryside. Some come specifically because they want to visit the birthplace of Shakespeare and to enjoy the theatres in Stratford. Everyone can relax and unwind in the peace of the cottage's courtyard setting, read or have a BBQ in the completely private small garden, listening to the church bells or the song of birds, their melodies sometimes broken by the chatter of children at play in the school playground up the road, their laughter being the only significant everyday noise. You are never very far from the gentle sound of a trickling stream which runs almost secretly through the the village, at times diving underground, only to reemerge again. Into the stream cascades a mini waterfall, the overflow from the restored medieval fish ponds in Middle Street, ceasing only in periods of extreme drought.

If you want to visit London, there is a good train service from Moreton in Marsh but otherwise rural transport is poor and it is recommended that you have a car unless you just want to chill out in the cottage, getting your online shopping delivered. The farm in the village produces and sells fresh eggs, milk and sausages.

The Cities of Oxford and Worcester and the town of Cheltenham are all within a 40-45 minute drive. At Sansome House Cottage you are both in the Heart of England and in the Cotswolds with an excellent road network in all directions.

Guests seem to really appreciate that I have put myself in their position and asked, 'What do I want to find, myself, in a rental?' I try to make sure that all the little things are right and that you have all the equipment that you need. I do not describe the cottage as 'luxury' (that overused word), rather 'special' so you feel really cared for. I do not provide expensive complimentary toiletries and put the rent up accordingly. I make sure all the essentials are in place and the store cupboard items/general basics are on a use and replace basis. In the summer, if the vegetable garden is behaving, I share the produce with you (no guarantees on the slugs or birds thwarting my efforts though). A newly (home)baked loaf will be awaiting your arrival as well as jam from my home grown raspberries or strawberries and some homemade biscuits on a tea tray. I put vases of flowers from the garden (subject to weather) all around the house.
