Electronic entertainment and communication features include: open wireless broadband throughout the house and poolside areas, DirecTV high definition satellite TV, Sharp HD LED TV, Bose Cinemate sound system for TV and music, BluRay CD/DVD player, and Apple TV. All bedrooms have clock radios, and two bedrooms have Sonos speakers for streaming music and radio.
Taza's location in Carmel Valley is typically above the ocean 'fog line' and occasional fog usually burns off by mid to late morning to give sunny days. Real time weather conditions from the weather station at Taza can be found at Weather Underground by using this link:
We live in Berkeley (San Francisco Bay Area) and love Carmel Valley for the scenery, hiking, nearby beaches, food, and wine. One of us is an interior designer, and the other works in research. Taza is named for our dog Tasman, a 6 year old (acts like 3 year old) retriever mix rescue from Illinois. He loves the 1 acre fenced yard, hiking, the beach, and greeting all living creatures.
Eric Rey purchased this house in 2010
We chose this property because the location in Carmel Valley is above the usual fog line, and because of the great views and wonderful layout of the house and pool. We love the layout and the site - it was obviously custom-designed and built originally in 1956.
It's rumored that the property was a getaway for Hollywood folks - the house and pool layout, with pass-through kitchen bar, is perfect for entertaining or just hanging out.
Walking into the pool area from the front door is magical. The round pool is surrounded by Carmel stone walls and magnificent oak trees. The site is perched with expansive views of Carmel Valley and Garzas Canyon. The living room opens to the pool patio, creating a fantastic indoor/outdoor space.
We had a fantastic time and stay at your house, as far as we are concerned the house was everything we hoped it would be and more..
When we plan another visit to California I will be sure to send you a email, as we would love to come and stay at your house again.
Thank you again for all your help, and with meeting our requests of a high chair and BBQ set etc.
What a find! My husband and I spent two weeks in this fabulous place. Even though the pictures gave us a good idea of what to expect, when we arrived we were blown away, not only by the location but the home itself. It was unlike anything we had ever encountered in our vacation rentals. The home was gorgeous, exquisitely and tastefully decorated and absolutely spotless. It had everything we needed to make us feel at home, away from home. The beds with their luxurious comforters and linens were the most comfortable - we never slept so well.
We played several rounds of golf on some of the area's beautiful courses and enjoyed excellent dinners at the Los Laureles Lodge, just minutes from the house, and the quaint Cafe Rustica in the Village. Most of the time was spent just lounging around the pool and enjoying the scenic view of the Santa Inez mountains. We opted for additional heating of the pool, as offered by Eric, so my husband could enjoy his daily swims.
Eric did everything to make our stay most enjoyable and we would love to revisit this tranquil oasis.
The view was beautiful and not only that the house was also! My family and I stayed here and it was so inviting and comfortable. We were in town for my sisters wedding and had many things to get done before her big day .... Flowers to prepare for tables at reception and wedding cermony, baking her cake to all around getting ready for her big day and we had plenty of room for all that had to be done . Along with all the craziness of getting ready there was no stress because everyone would take a minute and relax in the pool or pull a chair up and enjoy the view . Any questions we had were answered by the 28 page handbook . I've never been to a rental with a handbook like this but it was very helpful and very organized. Thank you Eric for all your help and sharing your home to us !
A beautiful house and setting, perfectly outfitted. Our family adored being there, didn't want to leave!
This place is incredible the setting is something out of a Hollywood movie set, if you want a real great place to reset from the daily grind you've found the spot!
Many years ago I lived in Carmel, and I wanted to show my husband the area and take a romantic pre-Christmas holiday. I opted for a house in the peaceful Carmel Valley, above the fog line.
I am notably finicky and looked at every available rental in the area, regardless of price. The moment I saw this home and read the glowing reviews I was pretty sure I had found our spot.
Things only got better as I communicated with the owner Eric, who was responsive and helpful. Even after we had booked, an unexpected schedule change on our end was easily and graciously accommodated. Once we made our deposit, a guide of home and visitor information popped into my inbox, with everything we needed to easily access the property and area customized for us.
Our arrival was simple and again, Eric texted letting me know we could arrive at any time since there was no one in the home, which was much appreciated, since we were making a long drive.
Upon arrival we found that the online photos, impressive as they are, did not do the house justice. It is luxuriously clean, well equipped, contemporary and abundantly comfortable as well. The minute we arrived we felt at home.
The view is beautiful, we sat in front of the huge fireplace for hours listening to our own music ( the whole house has SONOS). The owners of this home got all the aesthetic details right: decor, bedding, beds. At no time did I ever feel like I was in someone else's house with all of their old "stuff". Having rented many vacation homes, I would say that feeling is my biggest peeve. I felt like I was in a wonderful , clean, cozy enclave, which exceeded my expectations.
The house is only about 15 minutes from Carmel and 5 minutes drive or brief walk from restaurants in the Valley.
We found it a delightful and romantic getaway, far too big for just the two of us,(and our dog) but nonetheless so inviting and cozy that we had trouble leaving the house to explore some days, the lure of the fireplace was overwhelming once or twice...
We thank Eric for his hospitality and his high standards of excellence. We hope to return and would recommend this property to anyone, young or old.
My wife and I stayed here for over a month. Our kids and grand children joined us for a couple of weeks and friends other times. Eric and his sister in law Kathy were always available and responsive to any of our wants. Arranged for extra housekeeping services (at our additional expense). We have rented all over the world through VRBO and this one exceeded our expectations. Clean, elegant, and stocked with all the necessary needs and beyond (unlike some of the other places we have stayed.) Highly recommend!
The property is about a 15 minute drive from the beaches in Carmel and Monterey, and far enough inland to avoid coastal fog most of the time. Carmel Valley Village is about one mile from the property, and has plenty of great wine-tasting, galleries, and restaurants. In the immediate area there are ample recreational opportunities with miles of great trails for hiking and horseback riding. Multiple golf courses are within 5-7 miles, and Laguna Seca Raceway is 7 miles away.
