CABIN CLOSE TO CEDAR POINT AND LAKE ERIE, VACATION RENTAL

Sandusky Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cozy and relaxing country setting in a repurposed, reclaimed cabin

Dancing Fox Cabin is in keeping with our circa 1842 farmstead home ambiance. Often early settlers would erect a simple cabin on the same property prior to building a more permanent home and Dancing Fox Cabin is a reflection and our vision of one of those early structures.

With it’s rural locale setting, simple shed roof style outline, barn wood exterior cladding, interior walls sheathed in white-washed boards, wide-plank pine flooring, rustic hand-made kitchen cabinetry and barn beam framing….you will be enveloped by the subtle feelings of our pioneers, a sense of soothing well-being and one of a simpler more calmer lifestyle with some modern amenities.

The Dancing Fox Cabin is your opportunity to experience what most lodging in Ohio doesn't offer. Imagine as you follow its pathway to your front porch, stepping across the threshold of your original swinging barn door entry and then begin feasting your eyes, spirit and senses upon … another time and another place.

Our settler-style cabin may become an unforgettable highlight of your visit to our area. Our initial goal was to utilize in the building process with as many reclaimed,

recycled, vintage and antique materials in the construction of this self-built structure. To this end we were quite successful. We estimate that approximately 95% of its total materials have been salvaged and re-purposed from various sources in northern Ohio! The blending of all these various components into a harmonious finished product is one that is memorable, soothing, and yet to many, exciting. As different as the exterior’s first impression may be, the cabin’s interior is where your visual senses will be captivated. Wherever your eyes and hands rove you will discover subtly aged textures, hand created items and coordinated color palettes that enhance the feelings of rustic relaxation. These time worn nuances now re-shed their light from simpler by-gone days and are captured by our cabin’s cozy environment. The lasting effect is one you won't forget. “Memories are made at the Dancing Fox Cabin.”

Even though our cabin is not set in the deep woods nor is it secluded, our “off the beaten path” farmland environment removes you from both the traffic and people congestion normally associated with other vacation rentals. Our centralized location is very convenient to the multitudes of attractions, events and activities found throughout the entire north central Ohio region. Lake Erie’s south shore, Cedar Point Amusement Park, fishing, boating, antique shops, dining, golfing, wineries and festivals are all within quick and easy driving distances. Major highways such as the Ohio Turnpike, U.S. State Rt. 20 and others are practically at your doorstep and conveniences for groceries and other neccessities are only minutes away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you both for the wonderful hospitality. We honestly didn't want to leave, but we can say we will be back. We came here meeting as complete strangers and we are leaving as family. We spent our 8th Anniversary here and I have to say it was the most enjoyable one. The cabin was very warm and welcoming and a beautiful place. We fell in love with it. Thank you for having a place we can call our home away from home.

We love you both!

This is one of the most awesome places ever. My husband and I spent 3 wonderful nights. The descriptions and pictures do not do this place justice. We loved the cabin and surroundings. Paul and Janelle are wonderful people and are now friends for life.

Owner's Response: Hi Deb and Robert!
Meeting the two of you was as if we have known you forever and picked back up where we left off after not seeing one another for years. Fun conversations! Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Dancing Fox and how much you enjoyed your stay. Robert, after you told us you shot almost 1000 photos of your trip visiting the different lighthouses and surrounding area, we are definitely looking forward to working with you to produce the book "Deb and Roberts Lake Erie North Coast Adventure" and share it with other guests. Take good care of one another and I'm sure our paths will cross again in the future. Your friends, Paul and Janell

Wonderful cabin is a home away from home!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed in this wonderfully unique cabin for one night of our honeymoon and came back for our 1st anniversary this year. It was like coming home this year - it was already so familiar and Janelle and Paul were just as warm and friendly as ever while giving us plenty of space to come and go as we pleased.

We tried the French restaurant Zinc's Brasserie for the first time last year and it was absolutely delicious again this year. We would highly recommend a dinner there during your stay - the flavors are incredible! Also, last time we went, we went to Cedar Point (amusement park) for a day, and Lake Erie is very close as well. Also check out an authentic 4th generation meat market (Hasselbach Meats) that's hard to come by these days.

The cabin was very clean and put in order for both stays and Janelle and Paul are always very helpful when needed but are hands-off if you just want to do things on your own.

Seems as though there is enough room for a wheelchair user to move around (only a standing shower, though).

Owner's Response: Elle and Michael,
Seeing you again was such a delight and we thank you for coming back to Dancing Fox Cabin to enjoy your 1st Anniversary as husband and wife. We enjoyed listening and sharing with you what your goals are in life as you move forward and truly wish you the best of luck with your schooling as you near the completion with your PHD Michael and your Masters Elle. Oh, and Michael, don't forget...I'm on the list for that car of yours ...*smiles* Such a beautiful young couple with the World at your door. God Bless You Both Always. ~ Janell and Paul ~

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5
Our stay at Dancing Fox Cabin was absolutely perfect. We came to the area to visit Cedar Point at Sandusky. We were able to stay within 25 minutes of the park, yet still be able to rest in the quiet, cozy cabin at night when we wanted to just relax and not be around as many people. Paul and Janell were absolutely lovely to work with and provided everything we needed for our stay.

Owner's Response: Kim and Kelsey,
How wonderful for you two (mom and daughter) to have the opportunity to travel together and have so much fun! We are so happy you enjoyed Dancing Fox during your stay and the peace and serenity it gave you after your long days at Cedar Point. You two gals were definitely on the go for your short time here, so perhaps your next visit you can stay awhile longer. We would love to have you back again *smiles*. All The Best! Paul and Janell

Perfect Place

  • 5 of 5
We took our teenage son and his girlfriend to the cabin to stay for our Cedar Point trip. We all fell in love with the place! It was perfect to get away from the whirlwind to a calm, clean, unique experience of your cabin! The kids came back from Cedar Point and built a fire, roasted hot dogs and enjoyed spending time together!

Owner's Response: Angie and Ron,
First, let us say 'thank you' for the kind words and sharing your thoughts. We are so happy you had a great time during your stay and loved the experience of the cabin. I also heard that Ron slept in much longer then normal...lol...so something helped him relax. I bet you felt some calmness didn't you. Hopefully you will be back to see us again, but in the meantime, take care of one another and keep in touch from time to time. Paul and Janell

Oasis in farmland

  • 5 of 5
If you want a place to get away from it all, this is the place. My girlfriend and I spent two blissful nights at dancing fox cabin. Paul and Janell were extremely courteous and helpful, but left us alone after the initial meeting to help us get acquainted with the property. I would recommend this to couples who just want a romantic getaway. If you like walking around historic towns, I recommend Milan, only 20 minutes away.
Thanks Paul and Janell. We will be back!

Nice Cabin with a Camping feel

  • 3 of 5
The cabin was really nice, and comfy, but this is definitely more for people who want the camping type of vacation. There were a lot of bugs, and they were crawling while we were sleeping, which made sleep difficult to come by. We were surprised to find that the cabin was, literally, in their back yard. Also, there was some type of problem with the cable, so our last morning we were interrupted by the cable man coming so the tv would be fixed for the next guests, that was a real bucket of cold water on the last day of our vacation. Other than that it was nice, and the owners were very hospitable! If you like outdoors, this is perfect for you.

Owner's Response: We sincerely regret that after two years of operation we have experienced our first, and only slightly, “dissatisfied” guest comment.
It seems our guests found several lady bugs; were upset the cable TV went out and the cabin’s location wasn’t in their self-perceived “backwoods” setting. In reply to our guests comments we would like to say, “Our cabin is just that, a cabin. With that being said, it is not hermetically sealed and therefore not totally “ insect/bug proof”. We admit that during their two day stay there was a widespread lady bug migration throughout all of northern Ohio. We here, like so many others, were subjected to that brief episode. PLEASE NOTE: We would like everyone to be clear that Lady Bugs ARE NOT bed bugs nor have we ever had bed bugs, if this is in fact what the guest comments are trying to elude to. Our apologies for that unavoidable incident caused by mother nature and her friendly little Lady Bugs.

In regards to the cable repairman’s visit.... Having been informed by our guests of the malfunctioning cable, we enquired if they would mind if the repairman could enter the premises they were renting in order to make necessary repairs. Our guests cordially and immediately extended their permission. Under no circumstances were our guests pressured or coerced into doing so. We were only trying to do the right thing by and for them.

“In our backyard” is a relative term when one considers our reclaimed settlers cabin is located approximately 200+ feet from our Circa 1842 home, nor is it stated or suggested anywhere in our website to be in an isolated, backwoods or remote locale, we feel the cabin is not being misrepresented. In fact, before our guests book with us, we verbally ensure that this reality is understood by our patrons so there are no misunderstandings.”

In closing, we make every effort possible to provide a clean, secure, comfortable, well-appointed and unique lodging experience.
Our heart-felt “thank you” to every one of you for your patronage and … positive comments.

The wooden floors continue on which were originally flooring in a hayloft. Another example is the bathroom vanity base cabinet Paul handmade from early 1900’s Wormy Chestnut and features a porcelain counter top surface once from an old Hoosier cupboard along with a repurposed sink. The shower stall walls are sheathed with large antique slate chalkboards formerly used to teach children in a local 1892 school house. On the wall above the commode you’ll find a rustic, handmade wall cupboard for storage and on another wall a vintage wood farm ladder for hanging towels. An abundance of clothing hook adorns the walls and door’s interior. And for your convenience, there is a commode and hot and cold running water! *smiles*

The open concept lends a feeling of airiness and historically proper for simple cabin construction designs during early settlement days. The log framed queen size bunk bed is the dominant focal point of the cabin’s bedroom area. At one side of the bed is a handmade wardrobe clad with antique reddish-brown barn siding. This rustic wardrobe features plentiful wall hooks, shelving with baskets for clothing and a simple clothing rod which is 'limited' for storage so pack lightly. Resting at the foot of the log bed is a vintage cedar trunk for additional storage and an original primitive dry sink cupboard with shelves as well. From this open and undefined bedroom area you be able to freely converse with others in the cabin, watch the flat screen TV or fireplace and peer outside from the many windows scattered throughout the cabin.
