About Jennifer Tomkins

Born in UK, we met at the University of Reading and shortly afterwards moved to South Africa and then to the States -- that was in 1984 and was supposed to be for one year. Today, we still live in Illinois and our children have grown up in the US. We bought Casale Monastero sul Colle last year as somewhere we could share with our friends and family -- especially those who live in Europe -- as well as with visitors from around the world. We look forward to meeting you.

Jennifer Tomkins purchased this chateau / country house in 2012

Why Jennifer Tomkins chose Montelparo

It was not supposed to be this property! We had envisaged something less grand -- until we fell in love. We have always bought our homes based on how they make us feel. As for Le Marche itself, it is quite simply one of the most beautiful places in the world (much of which, between us, we have seen). Added to which, the local people are warm and welcoming and there is a wealth of things to do such a take yoga classes with our charming Dutch neighbor who also owns a saffron farm, hike or horseback ride, explore the local hill towns, wine taste, or simply relax in the serenely beautiful grounds or by the pool. NOTE: If you need extra space, there is a self-contained apartment at the western end of the property that provides and additional bedroom with a queen bed.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

At Casale Monastero, we think that you will feel 'at home' and at peace. The house, with its sense of history, and its beautiful setting will lift your spirits and calm your mind. At the end of every day, the sun will set over the pool, the ruined chapel, the skyline of Santa Vittoria and the Sibillini mountains beyond. At the end of your stay we believe you will feel renewed and refreshed.

Incredible Views in the Lap of Comfort

  • 5 of 5
The villa is set on a hillside with incredible views in all directions. Lots of outdoor spaces to enjoy and outstanding accommodations on the inside. All bedrooms are outfitted with extremely comfortable beds and clean, beautifully appointed ensuite bathrooms. The water pressure is great and the kitchen and interior spaces are warm and inviting. Great home design and gracious host. Loved it.

A Touch of Paradise

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I just spent a week at Casale Monastero along with three other couples. There simply aren’t enough words in the English Language to describe the charm, character, modern conveniences, glorious kitchen, VIEW, etc. While the villa has all the modern conveniences from gorgeous, functional bathrooms to a fabulous kitchen and appliances, it has maintained the original charm of the villa. The detail, nooks and crannies are nothing less than a study.

A rental car is a necessity for sightseeing and poking around all the charming little towns; but a day (or more) at the villa, absorbing all the detail and view of the Sibillini Mountains. is a must. Pick up some locally-made prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, a loaf of bread, local wine, parmigiano reggiano cheese, and fruit, and you have an instant lunch to enjoy under the arbor.

LeMarche area is so unique as it too has maintained its charm and non-tourist style. Locals are willing to help with language issues with one sweet woman actually getting up from her park bench to walk us to the restaurant we were unable to locate.

Suffice it to say, you can be alone at an incredible villa; can go to local towns to enjoy the people, culture and food; or, combine both for a unique Italian getaway at Casale Monastero. You won’t regret it.

A True Get-Away!

  • 5 of 5
We spent a wonderful week in this amazing, traditional stone building which, above all, provides privacy and serenity! The layout is such that there is plenty of space for privacy, yet the villa feels very cozy. The kitchen worked very well for our foodie-group, and we were comfortable at the dining room table, for long and leisurely dinners. All bedroom en-suites are generous in size, and the outdoor area is huge! The location is perfect for discovering the MARCHE region, Italy's hidden gem, as we never saw tour groups or buses. And if you prefer to stay behind while others go out, this is a perfect place to cozy-up with a book. Added plus: perfect WI-FI!

Beautifully restored countryside farmhouse

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed a fabulous 2 week break in this fantastic villa. It's equipped with all modern facilities, very tastefully decorated with lots of room for our group of 8 people. The grounds and pool are very well laid out with stunning views of the local countryside. Our hosts were very accommodating making us feel very welcome. The surrounding area is dotted with hilltop towns and villages that are filled with great cafes and restaurants, and in August it's festival season so there are always interesting events. Around 40 minutes drive to the coast and we'd recommend Cupra for it's beach. Loved the holiday and would highly recommend.

Gorgeous farmhouse set in the beautiful rolling hills of Le Marche!

  • 5 of 5
This review is long overdue. It has been a month since our sensational stay at Casale Monastero and we're already trying to figure out when our schedules will allow us to return. We were looking for a vacation destination to suit our family's unique needs: a house to accommodate eight; including newlyweds, a couple approaching their golden anniversary, and a family with two children under the age of ten.

Close to several beaches and breathtaking hilltop villages with enough charm to spare, we just couldn't believe our luck at finding such a luxurious rental in the rural countryside of Le Marche! Tastefully remodeled and exquisitely furnished by someone possessed with a flair for detail, our family was extremely pleased with the accommodations at Casale Monastero. Our family particularly appreciated the non-chlorinated pool, the well-maintained grounds; and the form and function of the house, which allowed for many cherished family moments.

Le Marche is still pristine; free of the rampant tourism that has ruined many of Italy's greatest destinations. Jenny, our lovely hostess, was always available to help us find places to go - from discovering the gastronomic delights at Locanda del Riccio in Montelparo to enjoying the best glass of rosé we've ever had from Cantina dei Monti - it was such a pleasure having so many hedonistic pleasures nearby. We also wanted to mention how gracious the villagers were towards our family. We enjoyed the hospitality of La Ginestra; the tennis courts and horseback riding were wonderful, but it was their willingness to allow our German family to watch the World Cup games midday for which we were especially grateful.

We have so much gratitude and so many fond memories we will be able to look back on for a lifetime. Thank you so much Jenny for allowing our family to have this quality time together in your incredible home. We hope to come back again and again in the years to come!

Gorgeous home with fantastic views

  • 4 of 5
We stayed here for 5 nights - a great location for touring Marche. On our arrival there was a basket of staples to tide us over until we could stock up at the grocery store. The house is beautifully furnished with a well equipped kitchen and the view from the upstairs balcony was amazing. Although it was too cool to use the pool, it and the landscaping around it are beautiful. We loved exploring the nearby towns especially Montelparo, Offida, Servigliano and Fermo and the owner directed us to 2 local wineries with charming hosts. A marvelous first time experience in this area of Italy. This would be a 5 star rating if not for the blind curve road to arrive at the house and the difficulty in turning around in the narrow parking area. According to the owner the parking situation will be rectified in the future.

Exquisite scenery and gem-like medieval towns and bongos are two of the greatest delights of Marche. The view from the piazza opposite the cafe in Montelparo is unparalleled. Its local crafts and small industries are another draw. Close to Casale Monastero is the small town of Montottone where you can find a rare wood fired pottery and purchase locally made ceramics as great prices.. In Monappone you -- in common with the Duchess of Cambridge -- could buy a hat or visit the hat museum there. In Offida, a breathtaking 30-minute drive, you will find a lace museum and artisans still engaged in the craft. Wine lovers will find much to relish. At nearby Rotella is a state-of-the-art winery producing fine reds and whites. One of our favorite local wineries is Dezi in Serviligno (20 mins drive)-- also worth a visit for its delightful square, great cafe and gellateria, not to mention one of the best butchers around. And don't forget the local festas: from medieval style tournaments to celebrations of local food and wine or traditional music, virtually every small town has one. Great for people watching and enjoying local food wine and culture. To learn more about Marche, click here http://wsimag.com/travel/10069-le-marche-the-new-tuscany
