Overview

Idaho Springs Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Dome Home Very Close to Paradise

This 3/4 Dome is on 5 Acres adjoins BLM and USFS lands totaling in the hundreds of thousands of Acres.

It is 3.5 miles up a dirt road. The home has 1 BR and 1 BA and has a total of about 1100 sf. There are three beds in ONE common room w/ loft. It has Heat and Water and Electricity....no tv...no internet, but phones work well (3G network). In winter November thru May a 4wd car with good tires is required to reach the Dome. Rides can be arranged by the neighbors in advance if you would rather not deal with driving. The dome is luxurious in some ways, and rustic in others and its an all around a good value and unique place to stay.

Suitability:
  • children welcome
  • non smoking only
  • pets considered
  • wheelchair inaccessible

About Van Dome

We are scientists and musicians , we've lost the manual for this dome rocketship-recording studio! Come help us find it! In the mean time we're using it as a guest house. Please let us know if you would like to make a record! Some instruments are available if the muse is with you....:)

Why Van Dome chose Idaho Springs

I was in search of a K9 Shangri La...and I found it.

A Great getaway for seclusion or adventure!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for 4 nights with my girlfriend for a snowboarding/get away trip and it was perfect. The drive up to the cabin was half the fun(although I can see it getting kinda scary during heavy snowfall etc...). It's about 20 minutes or less from Loveland Ski Resort and not too much further for a couple other great snowboarding spots. I loved going into Idaho Springs for supplies, it's a great little town. As for the cabin it's perfect for just about any type of trip as long as everyone with you is able to walk up some steep stairs. What a great trip! Can't wait to go back!

Very cool getaway spot

  • 4 of 5

Both inside and out the dome has an eclectic, 'shabby chic', mountain engineered vibe to it that leaves you both impressed and quizzical at the same time. There's a great selection of games, books, and musical devices that yield self-sustaining entertainment when you're not cooking in the well-appointed kitchen or enjoying the wood fire. The oft-mentioned record selection is not as huge as I imagined, but there are some real gems in there - and you can always plug in your own music too. It's a real endeavor to get the sauna going so we opted out and mostly stayed out of the yet-to-be-finished basement. However, with bluebird skies like we had, you can't beat the warmth, view, and solitude of sunbathing on the front 'balcony'.

Re: the road up there, if you have REAL snow tires or a 4WD/AWD vehicle (or both!) you should have little problem. The road is not that rough, though I suppose if it really dumped you may have some clearance issues in a lower car.

Exactly what we were looking for

  • 4 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed at the dome for his bday weekend. It was perfect! We didn't leave for anything, and that is exactly what we wanted. The dome was cozy, but we spent most of the time outside enjoying the views and the fire pit. The only reason for the missing star was that there was some stuff laying around outside that took away from the outdoor environment a bit.

Fun Geodesic Dome

  • 5 of 5

What I expected considering the extremely reasonable price. Nothing fancy, but it made for a great vacation. The location is 3 1/2 miles (2,000 foot rise) up a fun-to-drive dirt road (having AWD is a plus.) Very scenic, secluded, and quiet. Great location for day trips through some of the most spectacular mountains to Denver, Vail, or Breckenridge. It was a bit difficult to get used to the altitude of the dome house. It was difficult to descend the spiral stairway because the wedge shaped planks were much smaller than my size 12 foot. Overall, the dome proved to be comfortable and unique. It is also pet friendly. I would recommend this property, a bit rustic, but the setting can't be beat!

Wonderful escape!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our mountain escape. The drive/climb alone let us know we were destined for amazing views as well as supreme privacy! The chairs on the deck/lower roof became our home base. Watching the weather ebb and flow was fantastic during the hot summer. My FLA friend from out of town was thoroughly impressed and I couldn't have asked for a better vacation experience. Eclectic, roughing it, with a flair of artistic genius. Thanks Van Dome for the cherry on top of the best Colorado getaway :)
