Two 2 bedroom beach front cottages, sleep 4/5; Alicante airport 40 mins. away

Two charming 2 bedroom cottages set in huge gardens leading directly to the beach of this secluded bay. The sea gently laps onto the shingle beach at the bottom of these private gardens providing an idyllic setting for the 2 adjoining cottages which offer unrivalled views of Charco Bay where one can enjoy snorkelling and swimming. One cottage sleeps 4 and the other 5. Both cottages have two bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, kitchen & lounge/in-door dining room which leads directly onto a terrace fully equipped for al fresco dining and sunbathing. If you have a large family or a group of friends both cottages can be rented together or, of course, they are available separately. As well as having the sea and beach on your doorstep, walking across the cliff tops offers magnificent views of the Mediterranean and the Charco Medieval Moorish lookout tower. The city of Alicante is outlined along the coast about 25 Kms. away to the south and to the north lies Altea approximately 20 Kms. away.

There are several golf courses in close proximity as well as the popular Terra Mitica theme park, Aqualandia water park and MundoMar. Additionally, the Terra Natura (safari park / zoo) and AquaNatura (featuring sealife) parks in the Benidorm area. There are also Go-Carting circuits for the more adventurous and the young at heart! The city of Elche offers SafariPark Elche and Valencia the City of the Arts and Ciences Museum.

And of course Benidorm offers a great variety of activities for all ages as does the quaint, artistic town of Altea, both to the north. A picturesque 1.5 hour drive (or trainride) north adjacent to miles of orange groves takes you to Spain's third largest city, Valencia, with all its history and glory. To the south there are several possible excursions, Alicante for example, with a huge marina, two castles, night-life and shopping; Elche (the world's largest palm trees exporter) with a breath taking botanical garden; Orihuela with dozens of churches enclaved in its historic Old Town; city of Murcia which is famous for its gastronomy and it's historic Old Town. And it has good shopping too!

A rare find, this special homely Spanish two bedroom cottage with high ceilings and old wooden beams is set in beautiful tropical gardens which are just a short walk from the gazebo which sits at the edge of the beach. This character cottage has an inviting lounge with two sofas, one of which converts into a double bed settee, allowing this property to offer sleeping arrangements for 5 people. For entertainment and relaxation there is a small library, television with radio & DVD player. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and the second has bunk beds (2 standard single beds). Additionally the cottage has a dining room, kitchen, fully tiled bathroom with shower, and exterior BBQ. The arched, covered terrace overlooking the sea caters for outside dining. The property has air-conditioning and heating as well as a working fireplace. All bedding (hyperallergenic and/or down available), shower towels plus beach towels are provided & there is a washing machine + iron&board for guests use.

Arrived late at night and met by Betsy on the main road to direct us in - essential if never been before - on the typical Spanish hillside tracks!

A car is essential as nearest shops are in Villajoyosa (5-10 mins away) or El Campello (10-15 mins).

The bungalow was spotlessly clean and well equipped. I visit the El Campello/Alicante area fairly regularly and am now used to the unpredicatble weather in Feb/March. This time we had alternating days of rain and warm sunshine!! Luckily the cottages have heaters (and air con for the summer) so you could escape the wind and rain.

During our stay it was a bit too windy to use the large garden area but from there there are steps down to the pebble beach.

The owners, Betsy and Lise, live next door so are available for advice or help if required. We went, as usual, specifically to see friends in Alicante so I spend most of my time in El Campello or Alicante and only visited Villajoyosa once. When my wife comes with me I try to stay at different places in the Alicante region as the coastal and inland scenery is so spectacular but different wherever you go. This time I choose this cottage and the views of the bay, the sea and the montains do not disappoint - even if the weather was not too kind!! The clouds are pretty spectacular as well.

An ideal place for families I would think as it is fenced and has lots of space yet only steps fdrom the beach.

We have a self imposed rule of never returning to the same place twice.

Not any more!

Everything was just as lovely as we remembered, in fact, better. Our daughters are five and six, and we are able to have such a relaxing time as there is so much for them to do. The garden is big, and safe, enough for them to play, and the box of 'toys' is a great idea. They spent most of their time playing bat and ball, or skipping, and of course paying lots of attention to Winnie & Coco! This enabled us to just sit, relax, and enjoy the special atmosphere of El Charco.

Villajoyosa itself is just a lovely place to visit, and a couple of new restaurants have sprung up since our last visit. It's only about five minutes away by car, and there's a spermarket there too. We did the 'big attractions' last time we were here, so this time we just enjoyed El Charco and Villajoyosa for what it is.

It was great to see Lise and Betsy again, and I can assure you that you won't find better 'hosts'. They have completely mastered the art of 'being there when needed but otherwise inconspicuous'.

Since we were last here, a dishwasher has been fitted to the kitchen. This was the icing on the cake, no one wants to do the washing up on holiday!

In conclusion, a fabulous and well appointed place to stay, fantastic atmosphere, relaxing, and fabulous views.

Now our rule has been broken, it looks like we might have to break it again...

We were 7 people who stayed for one week renting both houses. It is just as lovely as it looks in the pictures and the location is perfect. Just a 20 minutes drive from Alicante airport takes you to this secluded paradise. Another 5 minutes of driving brings you to Villajoyosa, a small and very nice town with many good restaurants and great sandy beaches. The cottages are cleaned spotless and are fully equipped with bedsheets, towels, TV, kitchen utilities, anything you'll need on holiday. The cottages are well maintained and the design is beautiful leaving nothing to coincidence with great details everywhere and fantastic paintings covering the walls! The owners live next door and provide the best service possible! They can tip you about the best restaurants in Villajoyosa and give good advice about things to do nearby, if you're up to more than just lying on your sun bed! If you want comfort, beautiful, secluded not far from town, romantic, bring the kids, just friends...? This place has it all and we strongly recommend it to anyone! We are definitely coming back :-)

Adresse magique que j'aurais aimé garder sous silence. Mais notre hôtesse (Betsy) fut si charmante que je me devais de lui rendre hommage.
Alors voila, je vous le dis cet endroit est le paradis.
Accueil parfait, maison hyper propre, décoration soignée, équipement au top, jardin méditerranéen plein de couleurs, panorama imprenable, chant des cigales et encore tant de choses que je vous invite à découvrir.
Sniff, il me tarde d'y revenir.

Per recensire questa sistemazione basta dire che siamo tornati ieri ed abbiamo già prenotato per il prossimo anno.
Ineguagliabile per la sua posizione praticamente in spiaggia e per la rifinitura della casa curata dalle proprietarie nei minimi particolari (è raro trovare una cura simile in una casa affittata a settimane).
Betsy e Lise sono le due sorelle che gestiscono la casa, sono gentilissime e disponibilissime ma mai invadenti.
Betsy ci ha seguito ed ha gestito i contatti in modo impeccabile e Lise (che fa l'artista di professione) cura gli aspetti estetici nei minimi particolari.
Si tratta di una villetta divisa in due appartamenti indipendenti ed affittati separatamente, uno rivolto al mare ed uno all'interno che ha comunque una vista del mare molto bella.
Ciascun appartamento è composto da una zona giorno, una cucinina, un bagno, e due camere da letto (una matrimoniale e una con letto a castello).
Ogni casa ha una zona esterna attrezzata e la disponibilità di una zona giardino proprio sul mare con un gazebo dove cenare è una cosa favolosa.
Alla spiaggia si accede con una breve scala infatti il giardino è leggermete rialzato dalla spiaggia con il risultato di una privacy fantastica.
La spiaggia non è di sabbia ma di ciotoli (è indispensabile l'uso di scarpette di gomma) e sulla sinistra c'è un pezzo discogliera veramente bello per gli amanti di questo tipo di mare (c'è anche molto pesce....).
Durante la settimana (Agosto) in spiaggia c'erano massimo 6 - 10 persone (spesso nessuno).
Se ci andate vi auguro una settimana di luna piena per godere il giardino e la spiaggia anche di sera.
Comunque chi ha dubbi avrà sicuramente risposte esaustive da Betsy (Pepsi :) )
