NICE VIEWS!

  • 5 of 5

This cozy rental is at the end of the street overlooking the beautiful bay. It is a short walk to the beach or you can just hop in your car and drive to the end of the street and park for easy access to your belongings. We enjoyed a glass of wine each watching the beautiful sunsets. I would highly recommend this rental for a Grand Isle getaway!

Retired Couple's Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We're a retired Midwestern couple who took a road trip South including these three nights on Grand Isle. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets over the bay from the deck, and sunrises over the Gulf after a short walk from the house. We liked the unobstructed deck view (no other houses in the way) of the bay. Also enjoyed walking at the State Park and the wooded Nature Conservancy area in the middle of the old town and seeing the old homes. (Check out the pamphlet guides for walking tours of these areas.) The access to the house and deck has lots of steps which could be a problem for some, but we were fine with them.

Beautiful sunsets for sure

  • 1 of 5

There was no reason to complain, anything we would have complained about would not have been a surprise to the owner. It is ran down and has been for quite some time. I usually would not say anything and just write off the experience and go on, but at the top of the stairs (the little landing area before you go on to the deck) gave way and slipped down and caught on the next brace which is the only thing that kept me from falling 10 or 12 feet. It is in dire need of repair all around the camp not just the deck. As another reviewer states it smells like sewer in the ditch. I would have to agree with them. I could go on and on but will not. Long story short it is in no shape to be rented to guests in my opinion. The positive reviews have to be from friends and family if not directly from the owner.

Owner's Response: I do not believe it is even possible to write your own reviews and the very limited bad ones such as this one I have to accept along with the majority who love this camp inside and out, but I can assure renters that the board in question was immediately fixed and the wood may look weathered as in extreme weather but most of the deck is only a few years old and the camp each year gets an overhaul, This year it has been furnished with new comfy sectional and bed and and high dining table. The occasional smell in the ditch (not the camp) is being sorted by the authorities. I am always sorry for the few guests who do not have a good experience, but can honestly say we do our best to make sure that everyone does - and they usually do!

Needs Refreshing

  • 2 of 5

Rented this camp for the reviews and all the things that were described on ad. First and foremost the Sunsets from the deck are fantastic. Would have loved to have eaten outside on the picnic table while watching said sunsets, BUT , it was broken. Tried to Bar B Que on the rickity grill, but it collapsed with out Shrimp Kabobs on it. Left our Kayak at home because ad said there was one, there wasn't and when I was looking at the guest book a guest reported it had not been there back in March 2014. I contacted owner she did say it was missing. So did get get to Kayak because I left mine at home. Crab trap, not there. The Hammock was broken and the rope in pieces on the ground, would have been great to watch the sunset from. The beach cart zip ties are busting loose, 2 of the 3 Beach Chairs are broken, luckily brought one from home. Owners response from text," Grand Isle eats things every season so will be back to renew". Thats great, so we get the left over crap. Been going to the beach 40 years we know how salt water takes things out. She owns it and rents it out,it is a business. I owned a business for 15 years, everything was tip top everyday. Also, the 1 min walk in reality is down the street past 5 homes, cross the street, go from street to dunes and over. Not a 1 min walk, and not one to be made with 3 small kids and the gear that is required. Thank goodness for the half busted beach cart. Also those dining chairs don't exist, you get to dine on folding chairs. And that couch that looks ok in picture is actually something that you might see in a free curb alert on craigslist and has a big hole in it. Could not bring ourselves to sit on it. The bedding in the 2nd bedroom is bunkbeds, which is correct. But the other bedding is 2 FUTON'S. Adults sleep on beds, not Futon's. Addressed these issues by text with owner. No response from her while we were there. There are 3 broken tables on the deck and everything is run down. Even if there had been a couch we wanted to sit on we could not have seen the 19" tv from clear across the room. Lastly, there is this ditch with standing water in right along the house. It smelled when we got there, but I know there are certain beach smells. As the week went along the water got cloudy and greenish and stunk to high heaven. I saw water moving out of the pipe that ran from the house. I had to take a double look and almost puked, brown poo as in Cr** was coming out of the pipe. I wanted to give it a 1

Owner's Response: I am so sorry that this renter was so disgruntled - a few of the issues mentioned I accept but most I do not. No one else has complained about the beds - it is a camp with one queen bed and two queen futons and one futon has a $1000 mattress, and bunks which are for children only. The hammock was unfortunate that it just broke with renters before and it is now mended. The picnic table is news to me - it was not reported broken nor the bar-b-que which was new this year, both of which will be mended if needs be. Kayak I agree I must remove from site as a renter broke it and the crab trap were there - I simply don't think renter looked up on the rafters down below the camp. The journey to the beach is seriously no great distance and it says a block away. I did reply to renter as I usually have a great relationship with my renters - the first complaint was there was no hot water - Clearly the note telling how to turn it on was not read, and the complaints mounted. The fold up chairs and the sofa are quite adequate. The camp is always well cleaned as reported by all our guests, I truly do not know what is meant by the ditch - but if there is a problem I will immediately look into it. I would have liked to help this renter out to feel better about the stay but I do believe there was no pleasing.
