About Jeff Clary

I moved to New Orleans in 1993 to attend Tulane University. And the City that Care Forgot wasted no time sucking me in. As a young man, my Uptown neighborhood met my every want and need - a half block from Mardi Gras, a quick stumble to some of the best live music in the city at Tipitina's and Les Bons Temps, fine eats at Dick and Jenny's, and plenty of libations within striking distance. Now I am older, with three children, and though my needs have changed the neighborhood still provides - ice cream at Creole Creamery, snowballs at Hansen's Sno-Bliz, two playgrounds, a children's library, and pizza. And of course Mardi Gras.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Jeff was extremely responsive leading up to the trip. Quickly responded to emails/questions. Jeff's instructions were extremely detailed, accurate and helpful. Apt is just as at looks, very clean and comes with a number of different helpful amenities (including shampoo, soap, tp, etc.) Walking distance to audobon park - easy parking - great location if you know the city or want to stay uptown.

cozy place

  • 3 of 5

We had a great stay here. It was close to magazine street and was walking distance, although we did not walk. Bed was comfortable but the pull out couch was not too much. Though this place is listed sleeps 4, the 3rd and 4th person will not have a very comfortable sleep. I would recommend for a couple better. Everything is exactly like the pictures. The house is on a busier street than expected and street parking is always available just in front of the unit. Overall, it served its purpose for us. A nice clean place to rest at night. I only have a small issue with the fact that they charge us a cleaning fee when they kindly ask in the guest book that we take out our trash and strip the linens from the beds and start the dishwasher in order to help them out since they do the cleaning them selves. The floors though look clean, our feet were black from dirt every night. It does not seem very fair to me to have guest do most of the heavy lifting.

Owner's Response: I’m happy that our guests enjoyed their stay and found the space “a nice clean place to rest at night.” I started listing property on VRBO in 2012, I currently have 5 listings, and this is the first time I have ever received a 3 star review. Because every other guest has been overwhelmingly pleased with my properties, I wanted to take a moment to respond to this review. To address the reviewer’s issues: 1) Sleeping Guests 3 & 4: This is a one bedroom house with one queen sized bed. Extra guests will not have a bed to sleep on, but they do have their choice of sleeping on one of two sofas, a pull out bed, or a queen sized air mattress that lives in the closet. Given the range of options, I think the 3rd and 4th guests can find a comfortable place to sleep. 2) Cleaning and Cleaning fee: Over the last 3 years, my wife and I have cleaned the space between guests. The house manual asks that guests strip the beds and start the wash so that we can have a head start when we get to the apartment. Guests are by no means obliged to do any “heavy lifting.” They are simply asked to be courteous of the space and to take some simple steps to help us out. Because we are expecting a new baby any day now and we can no longer clean the space ourselves, we have recently added a cleaning fee and hired a cleaning service. I am sorry that this guest found the fee burdensome. 3) Your hosts will strive to make your stay comfortable! This review describes the space as a “cozy place,” a “nice clean place to rest at night” that looks “just like the pictures,” and a location where guests enjoyed a “great stay.” I live just a half mile from the property, and guests who have issues with the space are encouraged to reach out to me while they are in town. If there is ever anything wrong with the space, I will right it. I am here to make our guests’ stay a comfortable one, and I am here to offer advice to travelers looking for New Orleans dining, music, and entertainment experiences . I regret that these guests didn’t contact me with any of their issues while they were in town. I would certainly have taken steps to make sure they were happy with the property.

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in New Orleans and it was great to stay in this cozy little cottage. It is exactly as seen in pictures. Once we figured out the bus lines it is right on one line and .4 miles from another line that both go all over. Comfortable bed and temperature was easy to control. We didn't watch any movies but the selection on DVD was excellent! We also cooked some and had all the pans and utensils we needed. There is a Whole Foods in walking distance. Washer/Dryer was handy after going to a concert that allowed smoking. Check in and out was super easy. Would stay again or recommend to others! Thanks!

Nice place but with a few asterix***

  • 4 of 5

I count on these reviews to be accurate when I travel, so I will try to be as fair as possible. I'll start with the positives: The owner communicated very well and answered any questions I had in a timely manner. He did not jack up the rates for the Halloween holiday like most other owners in NOLA do. The place was well maintained and appointed even nicer than the photos. There was a mix up with the cleaning service that he offered to take care of immediately. There were ample cleaning supplies and toiletries. The appliances looked brand new - and the washer/dryer came in handy. It was only a couple of minutes drive to the shops & restaurants on Magazine and to Audubon Park - and about 15 to the Quarter - depending on traffic. There is a bar & grill across the street. Most others are 15-25 minute walks.

Now for the potential negatives. I say potential, because they may not be an issue for some. We had a number of issues with the location. Over our 5 night stay, we were not able to get one full nights sleep. This had numerous causes. The house is so close to the port that the dropping of containers shakes the entire building. Large trucks run up and down the street, to and from the port - also shaking the entire unit. There was also an average of 5 ambulances a night that ran their sirens at all hours on the way to the nearby hospital. The wall between the 2 shotgun units is not adequately sound-proofed - and you can easily hear sounds from the adjoining unit. The bed was very high off the floor, with a very hard mattress. It made us both sore - and the wife actually prefers firmer mattresses. We've gotten more rest while staying in the Quarter. The neighbors have 2 SUVs of their own- which made parking a challenge on some nights.

The shower was beautiful, but there is just not enough water pressure or volume to support the large sunflower head that they have installed.

Last but not least, as a retired firefighter, I found it worrisome that the unit had only one exit at the front. That wouldn't meet code in most parts of the country, but if it's inherent to the local architecture - they should provide a fire extinguisher.

After reading this - there seems to be more bad than good. That's not the case. We would recommend this property to younger (20-50ish) - able bodied adults, looking for a good value.

Comfortable and clean, and well-maintained. Location was a bit far out of the way, so it would be good to have a car while staying here.

Our 1st visit to NOLA!

  • 5 of 5

This lovely home in uptown New Orleans was the perfect spot and our host was most gracious. We were comfortable and all of the furnishings were quite nice. The cruiser bikes made for fun tours around the beautiful neighborhoods. It is a distance from the French Quarter (I wanted it that way) and we walked several blocks to reach the trolley - lots to see on our strolls. Absolutely will return and hope the house is available when we do !!!

This Uptown property is a stone's throw away from dining, drinking, shopping, merry-making, and Mardi Gras. Enjoy alligator pies washed down with Abita Amber at Frankie and Johnny's, just across the street. One block away is Dos Jefe's Cigar bar, which has a cozy patio area. Traveling with kids? Audubon Park and the Audubon Zoo are just 10 blocks away. The park also sports a par-3 golf course, a swimming pool, basketball courts, soccer fields, a jogging trail, and scenic views of the Mississippi River. If you fancy a quiet night in, there are two grocery stores within 3 blocks - Whole Foods and Winn-Dixie. Magazine Street provides ample dining and late night opportunities. Some of the best live music in the city can be found at Les Bons Temps or at Tipitinas, both less than a mile from the property. And if it's Mardi Gras you are after... Many of the Uptown parades line up along Jefferson between Tchoupitoulas St. and Magazine St. - 2 blocks from the house.
