HIDDEN INN: QUIET & LUXURIOUS DOWNTOWN KYOTO TOWNHOUSE

Kyoto House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Living room sofa bed, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6)

Hidden Inn is a beautiful & modern fully furnished Japanese vacation rental townhouse which can accommodate up to 6 adults. When you stay at Hidden Inn, you rent the whole house and can come and go as you please. Ideal for couples, families or groups of friends traveling together. The house is fully equipped and centrally located to make your stay in Kyoto as comfortable and relaxing as possible. A short walk to shops, restaurants and sightseeing, but in a quiet residential neighbourhood, away from traffic and noise.

CONVENIENCE OF A HOME AWAY FROM HOME

Hidden Inn provides all the convenience of a home away from home. Guests may come and go as they like, cook in the townhouse themselves without having to pay for expensive restaurant or hotel food every single meal.

Hidden Inn management tries to adopt a flexible approach to ensure guests needs are accommodated to the best of our abilities.

FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN SO GUESTS CAN EAT IN

The townhouse has a fully equipped kitchen. Guests therefore have the option of buying takeout (perhaps sushi or a bento?) and bringing it home to eat or cooking themselves. All appliances, plates, cutlery, utensils, etc necessary are available and ready to use.

ENTERTAINMENT FOR A RAINY DAY

The townhouse has high speed fiber optic internet with WiFi, a large flatscreen TV, Sony Playsation 3 with over 40 games, DVD/Bluray player etc to ensure that guests have something to do if the weather turns bad or they just need a break from sightseeing.

QUIET & CONVENIENT LOCATION

Hidden Inn management chose the location of the property very carefully. This is to ensure that guests can relax and enjoy their vacation without the typical noise associated with large hotels and roadside traffic. The house is within a residential area with a strong sense of community. You are sure to see the friendly locals as you come and go and experience local atmosphere which is likely to be quite different from home.

Hidden Inn Kamitoryo-cho is located in a quiet downtown neighbourhood away from major traffic routes but within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, convenience stores, post office, banks and tourist attractions such as temples, gardnes and shrines. It is less than 1500m from the city center and less than 10min by taxi from Kyoto station.

It is only a short walk to Toyokuni shrine, Kyoto National Museum, Sanjusangendo temple, and the world heritage listed Kiyomizu temple. Restaurants, cafes, banks, post office, convenience stores etc are just a short stroll. The nearby Keihan railway provides access to other parts of Kyoto including the beautiful Tofukuji to the south and city center to the north and also to Osaka in less than an hour.

WARM HOSPITALITY & INSIDER LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

A vast range of maps, guides and recommendations is made available to guests so that they can enjoy Kyoto and get the most out of their stay. The manager has lived in Kyoto for more than 15 years and is keen to share insight with guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner
We really enjoyed our stay at Hidden Inn in Kyoto. It was perfect for us - extremely clean, modern and quiet. A lot of effort was obviously made to provide for guests' needs - even sticky tape for our well worn map! The photos & directions on the web and the detailed guest information were really useful. Easy communication with the manager. We walked to Kiyomizu-dera and Gion. We didn't end-up using trains for the longer trips as taxis were cheaper than expected & easy to find at the temple a few minutes walk away. We stayed for 5 nights & would've happily stayed for more. There's still lots more to see in Kyoto & we really hope to stay at Hidden Inn again!

Excellent Kyoto Townhouse!

  • 5 of 5
We found the Hidden Inn to be an excellent choice for our visit to Kyoto. A convenient downtown location- a short taxi ride or comfortable walk to Kyoto station and many sightseeing destinations. The townhouse was spacious by Japan standards and very comfortable for our family of 4 (including 2 adult sons). The townhouse was well appointed with comfortable beds. We arrived at the Kyoto Station late in the evening for check in on the first night but had no problem finding the Hidden Inn and gaining entry due to outstanding directions and information on the Hidden Inn website and email instructions from Keith. The website instructions also provided good information on the local train stations and public transportation. We never did find the Fresco supermarket mentioned on the website (possibly our faulty navigation skills), but the other directions for conveniences were very helpful. We also appreciated the welcome basket when we arrived late the first night, too tired to look around locally for a snack. Another very useful feature was the library of travel books available for the guests' use. We used the Kyoto travel guide to find most of our activities during our stay. We definitely would return to the Hidden Inn if we travel back to Kyoto in the future.

Hidden Inn Treasure

  • 5 of 5
Our family of 3 had the opportunity to stay at the Hidden Inn recently while touring Kyoto. This unit allowed us to become immersed in the community, while feeling comfortable. The accommodations were nicely decorated with modern and very comfortable beds. Definitely were welcoming after long days of touring. The communication and admin emails were handled efficiently with plenty of instructions and follow ups. And the special snacks that Keith left for us were lovely touch. We even tried to hunt down some of them to take home to share. One mention that he stairway to the sleeping area are steep so one needs to be aware. However I would not feel that this would be a deterrent for many. Thank you Hidden Inn for a delightful stay!

5 star comfort and great location

  • 5 of 5
The house is conveniently located close to a major subway line making access to points of interest easy and fast. It is quite large for Japan and certainly enough space for two couples to share. We enjoyed the light and the balcony from which we could see Kyoto tower. This house is like a 5-star hotel, but bigger. We were very impressed with the quality of the facilities. Everything we needed was available and the owner gave us some great tips on exploring Kyoto.

It is quiet and a great place to recharge after touring this wonderful city. The 100 Yen shop a few minutes walk away was very convenient for daily necessities like bread, milk and snacks. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great space to stay in Kyoto.

Best place on our one month 6 city trip to Japan

  • 5 of 5
After staying at an Inn in Tokyo where the staff could barely speak English it was nice to be able to communicate clearly and get some good guidance at the start of our Kyoto adventure. The owner is a vegetarian and clearly cares about the environment. We were pleased to see that Hidden Inn is doing its best to encourage guests to sort garbage, minimize water use etc. In Japan the concept of “vegetarian” and “vegan” seem to differ with each person, so it was good to get some advice about real vegan food and restaurants in Kyoto. We really enjoyed the organic cafe which is just a few minutes walk from the house.

We went on a quick “intro to Kyoto by car” tour with the owner to get a feel for the city and I marked places on my map which I wanted to come back to explore later. Since we only had 3 nights and there do not appear to be any “hop on, hop off” style bus tours operating in Kyoto, the one hour or so we spent with Keith probably saved us a lot of time.

Not a big fan of traditional style places so this was perfect for me. Happy to say that the pillows were feather and not rice-husks, the laundry was inside the building (not in the yard or on the balcony), I did not need to strip naked in front of strangers to take a bath. There was no need to go to the coin laundry or hang clothes to dry on the balcony or in the bath. The dining table provides comfort during meals and saves my back and knees from the usual tatami floors and low tables. And the toilet, while on the small side, was not so tiny that I felt I would need to inhale in order to enter the room. There is no ridiculous curfew and we were not thrown out after 3 days (this happened to us in a hostel in Tokyo). Being 6’4” I find the standard futons in Japan to be a little short but I was happy to find my feet did not stick out the end of the bed this time.

Kyoto has a reputation for being a bit old and stuffy. It was great to find a hip and modern house like this with all the high tech stuff you expect in Japan. Looking forward to my next trip to Kyoto and staying at this cool house again.

Highly recommended. Had a great stay

  • 5 of 5
It was nice to come home to this cozy and spotless townhouse, a lovely hot shower (great water pressure by the way) and an ultra comfy western size sofa. The perfect place to relax for a bit after seeing the sights on foot. The amenities really made us feel spoiled. Gauging from the amount of time he spent there, the heated toilet seat was a real hit with my husband! We were relieved that although a little narrow in places this house was very comfortable and easy to use and relax. We did not have to makeup futon beds on the floor or eat at those funny little low tables while trying to stop our legs from going to sleep.

The kitchen was well equipped but we could not find any “normal” size plates. My better half suggested this might be why the locals are so thin. The refrigerator appears to be brand new and is just big enough. The manager kindly left some treats in there for us which was a nice touch. Microwave, toaster, kettle etc are all provided. Not a lot of benchspace if you need to make a big meal, but we guess that’s normal here.

The house was very quiet during the day but at night time we could sometimes hear the neighbors. I guess that’s unavoidable considering the population density in Kyoto. The house is down a pleasant alleyway away from the traffic so at least there was no other noise to worry about.

Hint for future travelers re. taxis: We wanted to avoid using taxis as we thought they would be a waste of money. But in Kyoto the taxis are very cheap and convenient. Actually there were several times when we actually saved money by using a cab rather than the bus. Four a group of 4 adults (bus cost 880 yen) traveling a couple of blocks only cost 650 yen. The MK taxis were recommended by the owner as being both the cheapest and providing the best service.
