Chilmark House Rental Photos and Description
Three Bedrooms, Three Bathrooms (Sleeps Eight)
John and Maureen Eisner recently built this sun-filled contemporary shingled farm house on five acres in the town of Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard. With an open floor plan this country house combines a vintage aesthetic with modern day luxury. Tongue and groove vaulted wood ceilings and heart pine flooring combined with vintage lighting throughout. The opened beamed sunny eat-in kitchen features a restored Wedge wood six burner double oven cooking range as well as a stainless steel Sub-Zero refrigerator and whisper quiet Kitchen Aid dishwasher. Unique touches and attention to detail prevail throughout The dining room's antique 9' long wide plank pine table seats ten and the adjoining living room features a recycled antique brick fireplace, a hidden Sony 46' flat screen TV, Moroccan pendant light fixtures and an adjacent large open deck. The house includes three traditional bedrooms: the two downstairs air conditioned guest bedrooms, one with three twin beds, a large closet and overhead fan, the other with a king-sized bed, large closet and overhead fan, along with a large full bath room create a separate private living area. A guest hall w/private entry and roofed in porch with an out-door shower complete the guest wing. The first floor also includes a a 1/2 bath off the kitchen, full laundry, pantry, brick floored mud room entry and hip-roofed sun room with a twin day bed and black-out shades that could serve as an additional bedroom.
The second floor, which is centrally air conditioned, contains a master suite with a California king-sized bed, two large closets, a sitting room and a master bath with a tiled shower, large claw foot tub ,2 pedestal sinks and storage shelves.
This unique up-island location combines seclusion with accessibility not often found anywhere on Martha's Vineyard. Set away from the main road on one of the island's leafy dirt roads, it is still close enough to walk to beaches, restaurants and shops. The house is a 15 minute walk to the Chilmark Town center, where you will find the library, bank, general store, post office and restaurant, as well as a community center with playground, tennis, films, yoga, lectures and programs for children. A little further (30 minute walk or 5 minute drive) is the famously beautiful Lucy Vincent beach. A 40 minute walk in the other direction brings you to the charming fishing village of Menemsha, with beach, fish market, docks, gas station and shops. This is the perfect spot to order fresh cooked lobster, clam chowder, or clams on the half-shell and watch the sun set into the ocean as you eat and sip your wine.

About John & Maureen Eisner
We are a design and build team, who have been married for 41 years. We met on Martha's Vineyard in the 1970s, where we owned and operated a natural foods store selling produce grown on our farm. We moved to New York City in the 1980s, where we restored downtown living lofts. We traveled to Los Angeles in the 1990s, where we designed and constructed contemporary craftsman homes in Venice Beach. Before returning to Martha's Vineyard in 2010, we lived in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for three years. Our children and grand children live in Venice Beach California.
John & Maureen Eisner purchased this house in 2009
Why John & Maureen Eisner chose Chilmark
After searching for something special in Chilmark, we found this slice of heaven just over 4 years ago and fell in love with it. It is rurally secluded yet within walking distance to town and beach destinations.
What makes this house unique
Sit on the deck in the evening. Enjoy the peace and serenity of a Chilmark sky and the many shooting stars. In the distance, hear the clanging of the bouy in Menemsha; the waves of the Atlantic hitting the south shore as faint beams from the Aquinnah light house cast its spiral across the western sky.
