We stayed here as a family of 12; parents, grandparents and teenage children. David and Sue gave us a warm welcome, and the house was beautifully clean, well-equipped and welcoming. There was plenty of space for us all, and a particular `plus' is the lovely big dining room with a table which easily sat us all.
The children loved having their own space in the loft, including a TV and DVD player and their own bathroom.

We enjoyed sitting in the sun beside the lake, bird and animal watching, as well as walking around the lovely abbey (very close by) and its surroundings. Paimpol is approximately a 20 minute bike ride away (some of us walked in, some biked, some drove) and there are shops, a market on one day, and plenty of restaurants around the harbour.

Brehec beach is a short drive away and we had fun in the rock pools and flying our kites - we also did some lovely walking further afield and visited the Ile de Brehat.

We had a truly enjoyable time and would recommend it as a lovely holiday destination.

We had high hopes for a great extended family holiday here -(3 generations, ages 1 to 66!), all of which were met or more often surpassed.

David/Sue (the owners) couldn't have been more welcoming or responsive throughout and both the house and setting are glorious. The four double bedrooms are beautiful, with the 2 at the front overlooking the lake; the upstairs attic room is very spacious and was a great hit with the kids; the dining room comfortably sat us all whilst the comfortable lounge, kitchen and well equipped bathrooms were spotless and fully met our needs. We were a little worried beforehand about the largely white furnishing and lovely antiques dotted around throughout (large family + kids!), but it felt comfortable and homely from the moment we arrived. We loved sitting out by the lake, spotting the wildlife as well as exploring the woods behind the house.

There are also great walks/bike rides to be had along the coast and Paimpol nearby is a nice harbor town with good shops, restaurants etc - well worth pottering around for an afternoon. Our favourite day out though was Brehec beach, just a 15 minute drive away.

I rarely get around to writing online reviews, but this is a really special place offering wonderful memories for us all and hopefully we'll get the opportunity to go again

Our visit was a case of Grandma and Grandpa taking the family, including grandchildren (ten of us in all) on a lovely holiday together!

This is, indeed,a fine and beautifully appointed house in idyllic surroundings.
It is well maintained and offers all the facilities, amenities and resources described on the website.

On arrival we were welcomed by David and Sue who provided us with all the information we needed to know and needless to say were on hand again at the end of a fabulous week to bid farewell - wonderful customer service!

The reviews written by sally e. and Martha and Christopher, with which we thoroughly agree, almost leave little more to say, but here is a house which is ideal for easy access to the beach and seashore, great for walking and cycling in the countryside (nine fine mountain bikes provided), and excellent for lovers of wildlife and flowers.

The weather was so good and the excitement so persistant that we didn't have much time tor the amazing DVD and book libraries - except for Tom and Jerry who kept things calm whilst tea was made!

In the evenings it's possible to enjoy a classical musical concert in the L'Abbaye du Beauport or if you just want to enjoy a light supper rather than going to a classy restaurant in Painpol you can walk to the lovely little Creperie just down the road.

All in all,for anybody wanting to stay in a unique house and enjoy a beautiful corner of Brittany this is the place to come. (again and again!)

Fantastic holiday home (without feeling like a holiday home - cosier and more welcoming than some can be!).
We stayed as 2 families with 4 children ranging in age from 6 to 14 and were not crowded at all - in fact hardly saw the 2 girls (9 and 11) when in the house as they took over the top floor and loved having their own den - this space is ideal for kids/teenagers to escape to and do their own thing.
Wonderful antique mirrors in every room and a huge dining room table to sit at least 14 - ideal for late night chats and games with a few glasses of wine!! Also a wood burner for those chilly nights! Several games to choose from in the house and the best DVD library we have ever seen - which was great for the kids on the wet days we had!!
Kitchen equipped with everything you could think of and also of a high standard - great saucepans!!!

Outside space a dream especially with the children - lovely to be able to step out the door to walks in the woods behind the house and also to the woods across the road and walks along the beach and by the old monastry.

Also nice beaches nearby - especially Bonaparte beach which reminded us of Cornwall beaches!

All in all a great house to escape to for a week (or two!!).

Husband, son (13), daughter (10) and I stayed in this magical house for a week last summer. It's both a great base to explore the north-western part of Brittany and a brilliant house to stay at home in. Really well equipped kitchen and gorgeous bathrooms then the rest of the house feels like living in a monochrome Jean Cocteau film, all billowing white curtains, silver mirrors, candles, soft sofas and a long long wooden dining table and huge wood-burning stove with a Harry Potter stovepipe. In fact, far too romantic really to be cluttered up with children but I suppose they have to come too!

Immediately outside the house is a beautiful lake, created centuries ago by the monks who lived nearby, between the woods and the sea. Every morning the kids would watch the little egrets (actually huge white birds) congregate on the far side of the lake, the moorhen who swam up to the house for bread and a family of ducks with six little ducklings. Lots of dvds amid the romantic surroundings kept everyone happy in down time.

Out of the house we enjoyed the monk's Abbaie de Beauport, an exquisite semi-ruined monastery with a stunning walled garden. On the other side of the wall were water meadows grazed by sheep and a grassy path by the sea which you can walk down to the nearby town of Paimpol.

Paimpol is a great French town, lots of good shops and markets, very high-end buskers, string quartets and bands and a harbour/marina with lots of sailing. There's also a covered tennis centre in the town which you can hire by the hour and we played a bit of tennis over the week. There are lots of beaches nearby and we could only begin our exploration of them. Lovely walks too in the woods behind the house, in beautiful broadleaf forests with rushing streams.

The locals were very friendly and patient with our french. We adopted a bar on the harbour front and watched the Tour de France cyclists on the bar TV. And trips to the supermarket reminded us that, unlike British supermarkets, they appear to be lots of brilliant specialist shops and stalls brought together under one roof. Great seafood, fruit and veg, meat and bread, in particular.

A big day out for us was to Mont St Michel, an hour or so's drive away. Another magical place (it's all enchanted!), it's a pointy castle on an island nearly surrounded by sea which you approach by a narrow causeway. Squeezing down the steepest, narrowest alley ever, we found a fantastic restaurant and ate oysters.

The house is situated on the edge of Paimpol,a well known historical fishing town. Our neighbour is the Abbaye de Beauport, established in 1202 and considered to be he best example of a maritime Abbey in France and highly recommend as a place to go.

To the west of Paimpol starts the 'Pink Granite coast' famous for its stunning rock formations and islets. Ten minutes to the north of Paimpol is L'Arc Ouest, the embarkation point for a 10 minute ferry ride to the car free 'Isle de Brehat, peaceful and fleurie, lots of quiet little beaches, very well worth a visit.

In close proximity to the house,as well as numerous woodland walks you can find several very safe beaches, and a few kilometres away, bigger ,busier beaches such as Brehec and Plage de Bonaparte.

Lots of activities such as Golf,Tennis,Sailing are all very close.

A Steam Train (April -Sept) runs from Paimpol along the banks of the River Trieux to Pontriuex,a delightful small sheltered town.
