Welcome to Hopper's House ~ an enchanting cottage in Cannon Beach, Oregon. The restoration of this historic 1916 Oregon beach cottage was completed in October of 2012. Consummate care was taken to preserve original features such as the fir floors, tongue and groove wood interior and light fixtures. Even the old-fashioned push-button light switches which were installed early last century will charm guests who appreciate the modern amenities of this century.
The main floor has an open concept living, dining and kitchen area designed for friend and family togetherness and intimate group gatherings. Whether guests are cooking, dining, watching TV, playing games, listening to music or just sitting by the whimsical rock fireplace, they can enjoy a cozy communal space.
Access to the south-facing deck adjacent to the dining room allows guests to expand their activities outdoors to include sunning, reading, or napping on the chaise lounge. Guests can enjoy grilling on the natural gas BBQ and gathering together for dinner or lunch at the outdoor table with seating for six. Not a deck person? The winsome front porch is a great place to pull up the rocking chair and read or watch the occasional beachcomber stroll by.
An old-fashioned queen-sized iron bed and desk define the charming bedroom on the first floor. Sleeping accommodations on the second floor include two bedrooms - one with a queen-sized antique wrought iron bed, rocking chair and desk - and one with a twin-sized daybed with pop-up trundle. All mattresses are Tempurpedic with the exception of the pop-up trundle.
Bathrooms on both floors feature restored vintage sinks, toilets from the turn of the century as well as old-fashioned curtain showers with luxurious rainheads. For the guest’s comfort traditional hex tile floors are supplemented with electric heat.
Hopper's House has an elegant gourmet kitchen with soapstone counters and farmhouse sink. A pro-line duel-fuel range and french door refrigerator will keep the cook happy and the clean-up crew will appreciate the built-in Bosch dishwasher. Supplies include stainless pots and pans, high-end cutlery, an array of cooking utensils, blender, food processor, Crockpot, stock pots, broiling pans, cookie sheets, muffin pans, casserole dishes, mixing bowls, waffle maker, and much more. Tableware, utensils, serving bowls, platter and other supplies are provided for dinner or beach feast. Those who imbibe will find the stemware and equipment necessary for enjoying cocktails, etc.
Whether it's sandcastles, kite flying, tide pools, surfing, wildlife viewing, hiking, biking, beach combing, or romantic strolls that brings guests to Cannon Beach, Hopper's House can only make it better.
Guests may be focused on one of the many festivals that occur during the course of the year. There are too many to list here, but depending on the season, the options include: The Yoga Festival or Savor Cannon Beach in the Winter; Get Lit at the Beach in Spring or Sandcastle Days in June; Plein-Air (French Impressionism) or the Concert Series in the Summer; and of course the Rock the Beach Run or Stormy Weather Arts Festival in the Autumn.
So much to do, so little time, therefore you should be centrally located. And, you may find that Hopper's House is the quintessential Oregon beach cottage for you.

This rental property is one of the most gorgeous houses I have ever rented. I do a lot of traveling and usually tend to rent a home as opposed to a hotel or B&Bs.; The location itself is enough to make anyone swoon but once you step inside this charming cottage you don't ever want to leave. All the amenities are high end from the kitchen to the bathrooms and of course the most comfortable bed and pillows I have slept on apart from my own home. My favorite part of the house had to be the interior decor and the gorgeous stone fireplace that rarely went unlit my entire stay. I loved the giant front porch to sit on and listen to the rain or watch the sunrise with a cup of coffee. This cottage is literally steps from the beach and from so many restaurants and shops. I couldn't imagine a better rental property for either a romantic getaway, girls weekend or a family retreat. Also I had the pleasure of meeting the homeowner herself and she couldn't be more accommodating and helpful with directions or restaurant suggestions. This will be a place my family will enjoy for many years to come.
Having been born in the midwest, my first visit to the Oregon Coast in the early 1990s was awe-inspiring to say the least. Breathtaking scenic beauty, abundant fresh air, and amazing recreational opportunities impressed this Missouri native enough to pack my bags and move to the Oregon coast in 1992. What a great environment to focus my attention on family and raising my son. Once my son was off on his own I decided to pursue my true passion of architecture and design through the restoration of historic properties. One of the unexpected benefits of restoring Hopper's House has been the opportunity to start a business that connects people to my hospitality instincts. Through such connections I have met wonderful people not only in Cannon Beach, but from around the world. I am passionate about providing a comfortable vacation “home away from home” for my guests and truly love what I do.
While visiting Cannon Beach in December of 2011 I saw this great old cottage for sale and it had the ideal location. It was situated in one of my favorite areas between downtown and midtown in the West Presidential Streets Neighborhood - within steps of the beach yet centrally close to town attractions such as fine art galleries, restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and more. Few changes had been made to the structure over the years so it retained the original character of the classic beach cottage. With the help of my general contractor, Coaster Construction, I made every attempt to keep it historically accurate while adding modern conveniences and features that define my version of present day hospitality.
I purchased the historic 1916 cottage in February of 2012 and began restoration work a month later. Knowing that over the past 96 years this cottage had been the gathering place for hundreds of family members over countless celebrations and holidays guided my intention of honoring the past. Updating the cottage for modern living presented its challenges. Many of the things we take for granted today like dishwashers, ranges with venting, and heated bathroom floors, to name a few, were not possible in 1916. But with a little finessing we were able to make it work. From the foundation to the roof the cottage has been restored with a great deal of care by a number of talented craftspeople and master woodworking artisans. I am pleased to make Hopper's House available as a cottage rental for guests. I love this cottage and I hope that you do too.
