Chuck's family has owned the farm property for nearly 100 years. We built our home around an existing home in 2005 to raise our growing family -- three girls including a set of twins. We built the barn and riding facilities in 2007 to run a riding program for children and adults. Today, we are living in Middlebury, VT where Jane has a full time job running an education technology company.
Chuck Hunt purchased this farmhouse in 1997
With plenty of room for family, close to wonderful cultural, sports and outdoor attractions with many choices for dining out, our property is the perfect site to relax year round. Whether visiting Williams College for a prospective student or as an alum, many people make Williamstown an annual destination.
We have an above ground outdoor pool with a large deck with breathtaking views, a large great room with a pool table, a functional kitchen with a SubZero refrigerator, dishwasher. Our country dining room has a large table with access through french doors to a wrap around deck. The great room has a working fireplace. Our rural setting allows you to watch the neighbor's cows graze, have a game of wiffleball or frisbee and we have an awesome hill for sledding in the winter. Every room in our home is light-filled and the many windows offer wonderful views of the surrounding mountain ranges.
I spent NYE at this home and my friends and I had a great time. The pictures don't do the house justice and a lot of the below problematic comments were addressed- the pool table is now located downstairs in the in-laws apartment and works, there is plenty of kitchenware and cookware for 10-12 people, and additional chairs have been added for people to sit at the dining table.
While we had 10 guests, the house can definitely fit more, but we did read in the house rule book that more than 14 people are now allowed due to permits (more than 14 people counts as a 'party'- hence why there are restrictions on having large events at this home).
All around we had a great time at this house, no complaints! The only thing I can think changing would be to include a recycling bin rather than just trash. Not sure on city permit/mandates about recycling but it would be nice to recycle cans and bottles.
Located in the Northern Berkshire mountains, this home is a wonderful place to base a large family vacation. Williamstown, MA is a beautiful college town just minutes away from both the Clark Art Museum and Mass MOCA. At the same time the hiking and adventure sport opportunities are great. Our family, which included 7 young children, had ample room in the house and a wide variety of daytime excursion options, but just staying "home" and enjoying the serenity, the views, and the pool were equally as appealing. The house is beautifully laid out with windows and views in every direction. Our only difficulty was a broken dishwasher which needed parts that had to be ordered; other than that we found ample supplies for cooking and grilling. The property is definitely rural (a large part of the charm for us) and renters would definitely want a car. Highly recommended!
My family gathered here over Memorial Day weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed the exquisite views, and all slept well in the 6 bedrooms. With children, we really enjoyed the lush yard to play in, the well-appointed deck, and making s'mores in the fire pit overlooking the mountain sunset. Also enjoyed a hike on near- by pine cobble trail. Also, the owner was super helpful in giving us prompt information & making sure we'd enjoy. Thanks Jane! We can't wait to go back!
We stayed here over Bay State Games weekend while our daughters figure skated. It was the perfect home base for our family & extended family to spread out and enjoy a hectic weekend. The house is well-maintained, has breathtaking views and a warm, family-friendly vibe. The best part were the comfy beds! We've rented many houses and usually the mattresses are like cardboard -- not here! All the beds had high quality mattresses, extra blankets -- perfect for a great night of rest before the skating competition.
House is very charming with a warm and inviting kitchen. However, there is not enough dish and stemware for ten people, which was the amount of people in our party. The house sleeps 12. Furniture in livingroom not enough for all guest to sit on. We had to move furniture from a bedroom to accommodate all. Need to bring an appliance to play music. Handyman, manager and cleaning personnel very helpful. Owner is readily available for many questions. Great sledding on property.
Thanks to Jane and Pat for helping us have a great New Years vacation. We had a wonderful time with 12 adults and 2 toddlers. The house is a beautiful modern horse ranch, with great views, 6 bedrooms (3 queens/double, 2 twinx2, 1 twin) and an office space that can fit an air mattress or futon as required. The kitchen/dining table was where we spent most of the time, with some downtime and kid time in the main living room space (with gorgeously radiated under floor heating). The 3 bathrooms were highly appreciated for their hot showers after a day of skiing at Mt Snow (less than an hour away). Extremely convenient to Mass MoCa (fantastic art Mecca) and a Super Stop and Shop down the road. Only caveats were our disappointment to find the pool table out of action, and a kitchen poorly equipped for group cooking. We certainly hope to return for our next gathering but next time will bring some extra pots and pans, knives, and wooden spoons. An extra piece of comfy furniture in the living room wouldn't go amiss either. Thanks again Jane. We will miss the chance to stay here again when you sell the farm.
