From 6 to 10 beds in the heart of Eastern Sicily

The villa is located in a private bay called Costa Saracena in which only owners can access. The bay has got several beaches , all rocky and one with sand and pebbles, in addition to the private little one where only our guests can access. From the pool, the solarium, the barbecue area, from all the rooms of the house, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the gulf between Siracusa and Catania, with Mount Etna in front, mirroring itself in the intense turquoise of the Mediterranean Sea,

We strongly advise you to drink a cocktail at sunset in the heady feeling that this house can offer you.

VIlla Catherine is located in Costa Saracena, a private bay where only the house owners can enter, between Catania and Syracuse, both 20 minutes by car. The convenience of being able to visit the eastern part of the island from Taorimina, Gole dell'Alcantara, Solicchiata, Giardini Naxos, Acitrezza, Acicastello via Catania, and then Brucoli, Siracusa, Fontane Bianche, Plemmirio natural reserve, Ragusa, Modica, Ispica, Ragusa Ibla, Marzamemi, Porto Palo, Pachino, Capo Passero, Piazza Armerina, Enna, Milo and many other places. From natural and scenic reserves to food and wine tour, and to the historical and artistic characteristics of Sicily.

wonderful location

We were 10 people, 6 adults and 4 children from ages 2 to 6, grandparents, children and grandchildren, and there was room for all of us. The position of the villa, right on the sea, is fantastic with a great view over the bay and with Etna in the background (when it was not hidden in mist). The weather was perfect and we enjoyed eating outside and swimming in the pool. Syracuse and Catania are easy to reach and some of us also made excursions to Taormina, Noto and Etna, so there are plenty of opportunities for sightseeing. A car is a must, for shopping and sightseeing. Nando and Nino are very helpful, and gave us a warm welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are happy to recommend the villa, also for families with small children. (our grandchildren had brought lifevests so we were not too worried about their falling into the pool, of course they were not allowed to be on their own around the pool, but children move so quickly) We enjoyed eating a family lunch at the agriturismo Roccadia.

Villa Catherine

We stayed at the end of February 2011, which is out of season. The weather was mixed, but we had some lovely sunny days to sit by the pool. The children swam but the water was too cold for adults!

The location of the villa is fabulous, overlooking the sea with snow capped Mount Etna across the bay. It is situated at the end of a gated holiday complex that looked a bit sad and neglected at that time of year, but don't be put off, as the villa itself and its grounds are well maintained.

A car is essential for staying here, as the nearest shops are several miles away. Lidl in Lentini is reasonably priced and well stocked.

There is lots to see and do in the area. Noto is a lovely old town, as is Siracusa. The market there is worth a visit on Monday (next to the remains of the Temple of Apollo) to pick up plenty of cheap local produce. Mount Etna is worth a visit, but wear warm clothing. Taomina is a seaside resort with a cable car that links to the old town high above. The Greek Theatre (rebuilt by the Romans) is spectacular and has to be seen.

Nino and Nando are very hospitable and helpful.

The villa is well equipped for self catering and there is heating / air conditioning. Comfortable for a party of 10 and there is a choice of indoor or outdoor dining dependent on the weather. There are several terraces that allow you to take full advantage of the sunshine.

Stunning views and your own 75 m of seafront

If you arrive at nighttime as we did, it is hard to discover the awesome location of the villa, but in the morning when you get up with the stunning views of the Catania bay and (sometimes) Mount Etna, you won´t believe it. The Villa is located directly on top of a cliff.

The premises are kept very well. Once a week the complete house is cleaned by two friendly ladies (for more than 3 hours !), the gardener keeps the garden in a perfect shape and the pool service looks after the water quality.

Nando and Nino are very caring and always available.

The bedrooms (all with seaview) are rather small (exept the masterbedroom), but there are plenty of terraces and a big living room. The house is next to a staircase leading to an access to the water. The pool is bigger than it looks on the photos, but unfortunately not heated. The poolhouse consists of three showers and a toilet.

A covered bbq is directly at the seafront, including a stone pizza oven (which we did not use).

In October the bar and the little shop are closed - next shops and restaurants are 20 minutes away. (e.g. a huge Auchan supermarket in Catania.) The villa is perfectly located to discover the South East of Sicily (Noto, Siracusa, Catania, Taomina, Mount Etna etc.)

We would love to come back in the future.
