About Jill Hancock

We purchased this property in 2011 and love living here. We enjoy having the little downstairs apartment for family and friends to stay. We have met some wonderful people that have stayed in our place.

Why Jill Hancock chose Kirkland

We looked for quite a while before we found this perfect location for us. It is on a private lane, yet in the middle of downtown Kirkland.

What makes this house unique

Our little MIL apartment is perfect for those that want to get away and yet feel like they are still at home. It is private and you can come and go as you please. It is a downstairs apartment that is part of our home on a private lane. There is a private little patio off the back to sit and drink coffee or a nice happy hour in the afternoon. Walk to all that downtown Kirkland has to offer, take in all the nice Wineries in downtown Woodinville, or a 20 minute drive to downtown Seattle to visit Pike's Market and all the fun activities of downtown. We are an hour and a half from Crystal Mountain Ski Resort, Stevens Pass which are both great Ski Areas. The San Juan Islands are close for beauty, whale watching, and wine tasting at some of the local wineries on the Islands. If you want to go biking/hiking, there are lots of wonderful hikes and bike trails close by. Of course if you need retail therapy...I can give you all the inside scoop on that! We hope that you enjoy your stay with us and feel comfortable and at home. 2 person Max. NO SMOKING!

Perfect for the two of us!

  • 5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this charming "mother-in-law" suite. The decor was tasteful and lovely. Everything was spotless. And our hosts had thought of everything...from bottled waters in the fridge to a grill for cooking out steaks to luxurious soaps and shampoo to dimmers on most of the lights. We felt so at home. The private entrance was lovely and we enjoyed being able to have our coffee and breakfast on the patio just outside our door every morning. The yard was lovely, and because the patio is covered we were even able to eat outside when it was raining! Indeed, the suite is within walking distance to downtown Kirkland. It provided a little exercise on the uphill trek back "home", but we did enjoy a pleasant afternoon walk to a downtown coffee shop. We loved eating at the Cactus restaurant (recommended by the owners) and a wing restaurant as well.

Just Right!

  • 5 of 5
Great location, excellent price. Clean as a whistle and cozy. The bathroom has a spa quality shower & furnishings. The freeway exit to Seattle is very convenient. It's well-stocked with cold drinks, coffee, and a chocolate dish. This is a mother-in-law apartment, so you can hear the owners talking and walking around but despite that, it is a terrific little place. My daughter and I had a fun girls getaway here.

Cozy apartment in a great location

  • 5 of 5
My sister and I enjoyed staying in this apartment for four nights last week. It was clean, well-stocked, and comfortable, and it was in a very nice neighborhood within walking distance of downtown Kirkland. We recommend it. It was fine for two people--would be a bit tight for more than that.

Awesome Place

  • 5 of 5
Thanks for a beautiful and quiet place to stay. We had a wonderful time in Seattle and coming home each night to relax in this place was icing on the cake. Everything was so clean and we LOVED the bathroom shower- huge! Even though we didn't cook, we did make fresh ground coffee (Starbucks) each morning. Thanks for those great supplies. By the way...I fell in love with the giant coffee mugs from Starbucks that featured the Seattle skyline. We looked for them at the local coffee shop before flying home and I am happy to say I now have the same mug at home! Booking and details were so simple and the pictures are exactly what you get. So lovely! Thanks again!

Perfect Match!!!

  • 5 of 5
We came from South Florida and stayed here for a week while looking for a place to live. This was our first vacation rental and we weren't sure what we were getting into. What we got into was awesome! This place was everything any hotel or the same price cannot be. It felt like home. It was a home! There were no other guests. No checking in and out. No looking for parking. It was in a quiet and stunningly beautiful neighborhood right next to a little downtown right off Lake Washington. The bed was a real bed with a mattress you cannot get anywhere else and sheets you'd keep at home. The bathroom was beautiful. Only a 5-star hotel could provide such a sculpted shower. The towels were ones you'd find at home, not your regular bleached white hotel towels that are too small. You have a lovely private yard with a covered porch you can sit outside and enjoy. The living room was cozy and the couch so plush. When we stay at a regular hotel we are afraid to sit on their furniture. It all looks dirty. But we didn't want to leave this living room. Having actual, normal, cable and Apple TV was a decided plus. You could even record a show if you wanted! On cold nights (which are most in Washington) the little electric fireplace heated the entire apartment with ease as well as providing a nice glow. We have to say that we had to stay at 6 hotels during my move to Seattle and none could compare to staying here. It was like a little home away from home. We made coffee in the morning. Heated leftovers we kept in a normal-sized fridge. Had real dishes at our disposal. It was delightful and we'd recommend this place to anyone. I plan on having family and friends stay here since the price is great. The same price can only really get you dingy room with little to no amenities in a crowded building in a not necessarily the best or most convenient area. And we don't really like people coming into our room every day with our stuff everywhere to clean up and make the bed. We will avoid hotels as much as possible from now on because of this place being such a great experience.

Cozy apartment

  • 5 of 5
It was last summer that we stayed at this property, and seeing the photos now brings back fond memories of a wonderful vacation. As has been stated elsewhere in these comments, this apartment has many advantages over a hotel. It is clean, cozy and comfortable as well as tastefully decorated, and the owners have thought of many little touches to make one feel welcome. Some nights we cooked dinner and enjoyed it on the patio with guests from the area. We spent one relaxing afternoon at the park nearby. Also within walking distance (if you can handle hills!) is a bus stop for access to Seattle, Bellevue, downtown Kirkland and more; something we appreciated since we were in the area without a car. Our hosts greeted us with warmth and were available if needed, but did not intrude in any way. We would definitely recommend this property to any of our friends or family who might be heading to the Seattle area.
