As an Idaho native, I grew up in Idaho as well as completed my BA here. I returned to Idaho after receiving my graduate degrees and started teaching at Boise State University in the Business School. I 'retired' last January and am currently enjoying living full time on our ranch.

Lynette Adams purchased this apartment in 1985

We fell in love with this property after first seeing it on cross country skis in February with 2-3 feet of snow. The beauty of the water, mountains and snow covered scenery enchanted us. We skied all along Big Creek, but couldn't get to the Island to see it--we were so enamored with the rest of it, we bought it without seeing the Island or much of the Payette

River. This included selling our house in Boise and moving to Cascade full time.

We are in a beautiful mountain valley at about 5000'. I drove through this area on my way to the University of Idaho from southern Idaho. I always thought this valley would be the a fantastic place to live given the environment and the recreational opportunities that abound here. It only took about 18 years, but here we are!! Wandering the trails on the Island or watching our elk herd migrate to the Island each morning is the type of enchantment we would like to share with you.

Wonderful Hideaway With Superb Hosts

We spent the last two weeks of our long USA holiday at this wonderful place. The apartment exceeded our expectations - big, cosy, tastefully decorated, open plan accommodation with an excellent bathroom and kitchen. The big ranch, bordered by the Payette River, was ours to explore at will. It was pretty in summer but must be truly wonderful covered in winter snow. Best of all was the warmth and friendliness of our hosts Lynette and Harry who shared a little social time with us and did everything they could to ensure that our stay in this part of Idaho was truly memorable. Very highly recommended.

Owner's Response: We really appreciate your great review! We throughly enjoyed your stay and do hope you will be able to return. The winter does give the ranch a whole different complexion. Your sightseeing trips gave you the glory of summer so now you need to see the splendor of winter. You can even ice fish in Lake Cascade which might be of interest to totally committed fishermen!! We hope to see you again for any season.

Beautiful, Relaxing, & Accommodating Property!

Beautiful, Relaxing, & Accommodating Property!

I booked this property seeking some good quality family time and R & R. We got exactly what we were looking for! The ranch itself is breathtaking and one has no need to leave the property once there. There are a plethora or walking trails throughout and the creek and river provided plenty of water entertainment (especially for the kids)! The rental unit is fully stocked with anything you might need (full kitchen supplies, washer, dryer, etc.) which made our visit that much more comfortable.

As if the beauty and comfort of the ranch and unit were not enough, the owners/hosts were over and above accommodating! From a welcome basket of edible goodies upon our arrival, a hand drawn map of the property, and an abundance of toys and gear for our two young boys to play with/use while there, we were blown away by their overt hospitality.

We had such a great time and we hope to come back again in the winter. I can only imagine how much more breathtaking the ranch would be covered in snow!

I would absolutely recommend this rental to anyone looking for a great time out in the Idaho wilderness. You will not go wrong staying at the Island Ranch Retreat!

Second Time Staying - Different Season

We previously had stayed at the Island Ranch Retreat in the summer, and this time we were able to book a long weekend in the winter months. We can't decide which we loved more! Our summer getaway was filled with hiking, sight-seeing, yard games, BBQ - the perfect summer. During our winter getaway, we were able to go sledding on the property (fun for the 2 year old and us slightly older...), ski at the wonderful Tamarack ski resort, check out some of the neat towns nearby, and taking in the beautiful winter sights. Would definitely recommend in any season.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed both seasons. They really are totally different.
Thank you for taking time to give us the great review!
We are defiantly looking forward to future visits.

Island Ranch is a truly unique property and setting. The house and retreat overlook the island. To the west of Long Valley a mountainous backdrop frames the open meadows, wetlands and scrub pine forests of the island with its numerous hiking trails. In some places these trails border the Payette River, which is tranquil at the ranch but turns into a great family whitewate run just five miles away (commercial trips are available). The Retreat itself is immaculate and spacious with a large back deck and firepit for late afternoon relaxing. The hosts are veterans of the area and anxious to help with suggestions for activities, including walks and hikes in the nearby mountains. We look forward to a return visit.

Relaxing Vacation Destination

This property and the house are just beautiful. There are gorgeous views from every window, no matter what season you visit. We have been there most recently in the winter, but the summer is just great as well.

This was one of the most relaxing few days we have spent in a long while. Lynette and Harry are great hosts. They have lived in the area for a long time and can provide great ideas for whatever you want to do regarding places to eat out or outdoor activities, such as places to hike and canoe. You can just stay right there and walk, float on the Payette, or cross country ski right on the property. There are great natural hot springs not too far away as well. I really liked the Warm Lake area which is pretty close.

Regarding the accomodations -- We love the place! Everything is very modern and clean. The house is really well laid out and comfortable, so you can visit with the hosts or just stay in your own large area. It has a nice kitchen and two large bedrooms as well as a nice living room.

If you like the outdoors, or just want to relax and enjoy the views of the mountains, you will love Island Ranch!
