Waikoloa Village Studio Rental Photos and Description

Studio Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, (1 Bed, Sleeps 2), Ocean Views!

Our tropical studio (or 'ohana' as they are called in Hawaii) has beautiful ocean views from the studio’s outdoor dining/BBQ area, front entrance and driveway area as well as spectacular ocean sunset views year round! Our studio is located in the home that we live in so we are your immediate neighbors.

The Tropical Studio is located in Waikoloa Village, which is a residential area, approximately 6 miles from the famous Waikoloa Beach Resorts and the best beaches on the island!

Whether you are into golf, exploring volcano activity on the other side of the island, enjoying lazy days spent on white sandy beaches or searching for the bountiful treasures that the Big Island has to offer, our tropical studio is the perfect 'base-camp' for relaxing and rejuvenating island style.

This charming studio is very comfortable and inviting with windows throughout for natural sunlight and airflow. It is located in a quiet residential neighborhood and has great ocean views and year round sunset views from the studio's outdoor dining/BBQ area and front entry. Decorated in a tropical theme our studio is freshly painted and has a new, comfortable California King size bed. The kitchen has bamboo floors, brightly colored counter tops and is equipped with a fridge/freezer, microwave, 2 burner hot plate (there is no oven or stove but every other piece of cooking equipment to get the job done), toaster oven, blender, toaster, crock pot, electric skillet, coffee maker, coffee grinder, french press and all necessary kitchen utensils; silverware, glassware, dishes, pots and pans, etc. as well as a large 4 burner stainless steel BBQ, perfect for grilling the fresh catch of the day or local Big Island beef.

We offer a unique setting for Waikoloa Village, our studio is part of our home, so both the main house and the studio are under one roof but they each have their own entrance and individual living space. Many other vacation rentals in this area are either condos or houses and there are no B&B’s. Staying in our studio, you will get the best of all worlds, your own private place along with the benefit of “innkeepers”, sharing our knowledge of the island's best places to go and things to do. If you are seasoned Hawaii travelers and know your way around then we simply offer you a nicely appointed, clean and cozy place to stay as you come and go as you please.

We look forward to sharing our home’s studio space with you and supporting you in discovering all of the wonderful and amazing places and cultural sites that the Big Island has to offer. Mahalo nui loa for considering our little 'peace' of paradise!

Special Note: Our house is perched atop its lot to provide for spectacular views which also means that there is a steep driveway to walk up and down to/from the parking spot/studio. However, at any time you can drive up the driveway for loading and unloading purposes. There are 6 steps up to the front door.

About Jennifer and Tom

We have lived in Waikoloa Village on the Big Island of Hawaii for the past 9 years. We moved from San Diego, California, because we were ready for a simpler life style, a slower pace of life and the aloha spirit that really does exist in everyday interactions here. We feel very fortunate to call Hawaii our home because there is so much diversity, both in culture and landscape. Where else can you get up close and personal with an active volcano and then the next day be snorkeling in the warm, azure waters of the Pacific? It is truly a remarkable place to live and we are happy to be able to share our home and our local knowledge with our guests.

Jennifer and Tom purchased this studio in 2012

Why Jennifer and Tom chose Waikoloa Village

The wife part of the relationship has been coming to Hawaii since 18 years of age and had a dream of one day living in Hawaii. Much later in life she met the husband part of the relationship and celebrated by vacationing in Hawaii and then they both had the dream! Hawaii is a very unique place with its Native Hawaiian history and yet it is part of the United States, it is the most isolated island chain in the world and yet living here creates a feeling of closeness to the land and to the many different ethnicity of people that call Hawaii home.

What makes this studio unique

We rented this property prior to buying it and fell in love with the spectacular and amazing views. We spend almost every evening on our lanai watching the sunset and hoping for a green flash and in winter seeing the whales breach in the distance!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"What a great place just perfect for me and my wife and it is centrally located, just 30 minutes from Kona. The bed was really comfortable as I'm a big guy, there was no squeakiness and no bowing when I got into bed. We will be back and by the way did I mention the great hosts." More Than We Could Have Hoped For

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Tropical Studio of Jennifer and Tom's was great. What a perfect place as a base for exploring the Big Island. If you are new to the island they are a font of information about the sites, restaurants and deals that you will want to experience. But if you are a veteran of island they will be sure to give you the space you need. The studio is immaculate and offers you everything you need for your stay. Beach necessities are supplied and the barbecue area is a great place to watch sunsets. When your stay ends you will feel like you are leaving friends behind. Mahalo, Jennifer and Tom!

Our new favorite, very clean and comfortable, quiet neighborhood, convenient to beach, golf and well stocked local market. Tom and Jennifer are excellent hosts and appear to have thought of everything a visitor may need. We plan to return.

Great Studio in Waikoloa Village

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 night stay - the studio is exactly as described, really well appointed, clean, extremely comfortable and well placed for visiting the Kohala coastline/beaches and further afield. Jennifer and Tom are so welcoming , friendly and "go the extra mile" to ensure that their guests have a great stay - we did and would love to return. Great views too - we really enjoyed sitting outside to watch the sunset. We also appreciated the very reliable wifi connection.

Owner's Response: Aloha and mahalo for taking time to write a review. We enjoyed having you as guests and watching the spectacular firework display from our lanai on New Year's Eve with you, what a show! We are so glad that you found everything "as advertised"; well appointed, clean, extremely comfortable and that you appreciated our lovely views, even for us they never get old. We're also glad to hear you had reliable WiFi service and that you had everything you needed. Let us know when you will be returning, remember we offer a great rate for our return guests. Happy New Year and a hui ho...

Quiet small studio

  • 4 of 5

The owners Tom and Jennifer are very friendly, the even gave us warm cloth because we went star gazing. The studio is in a very quiet and secure neighbourhood. There are only ten steps up the hill, so easy to reach. The studio is very clean and the kitchen is equipped with spices. The studio is very small. When we opened our big suitcase there was only space for one person to sit on the sofa. The Internet was very slow so that we could not skype. There is a small space outside between the garage and some bushes where you can sit and use the barbecue . We did not find it very attractive. There is a washing machine outside under the house which can be used and that was very convenient for us.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. While we appreciate the details of the review, there are a couple of areas that we would like to clear up. There’s an old saying and it goes; if you’re happy tell others, if you’re unhappy tell us so we can fix it! It's as easy as letting us know what's not working for you. Unfortunately, we were not made aware that these guests had oversized luggage and a storage issue. If we would have known we would have gladly offered alternate storage areas (the oversized suitcases could be stored in our garage or in the laundry area) there are definitely solutions. There are also 2 closets in the studio with storage; one with floor space, a suitcase caddy and overhead shelving and the second closet has several shelves. We will add luggage storage info to our rental contract going forward to alleviate this from happening again. We were also not made aware that these guests could not Skype. We were notified only once that the internet was off-line and we re-set it immediately. This comment is perplexing as we share the same internet connection with the studio and we Skype with family in California and it works fine every time, in fact we had a guest Skype regularly to Russia on her 2 week stay in the studio and it worked fine. The comment about the studio being small is redundant with it being called a studio; we state on our website that it is 350 sq. ft. and we post accurate, non-photo-shopped pictures so that our guests can see all there is to see. Regarding the outdoor BBQ area; it is not small by any means, in fact it measures 10 ft. wide by over 25 ft. long. The "bushes" were actually planted intentionally as a privacy hedge and are trimmed and cared for. Again, we post several accurate, non-photo-shopped pictures of this space and it is a perfect spot to sit and watch the sunset while grilling dinner. We go above and beyond to provide our guests with great service to ensure that each stay is as enjoyable as possible; these guests were no different when they needed assistant with an important document and they were invited into our home to use our office while Jennifer assisted them for a half an hour. In the end it goes to show that you can’t make everyone happy all of the time but that won’t stop us from trying with future guests as we aim to please! Mahalo for the feedback!

Owner's Response: Mahalo for your review on our studio. We are always happy to give input to our guests, like you said, just ask and we'll share our knowledge of the Big Island of what is nearby (or far away) and recommend things to see and do! We pride ourselves in offering a clean and comfortable studio and we're so happy you loved the BBQ, it's a nice grill! A hui ho!

Happy Travelers

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at the Tropical Studio- 3 weeks. Once again it met our needs very well, Tom and Jennifer are great hosts, always helpful, fun to visit with, and full of great Island tidbits, history and suggestions for where to visit. At the same time, they really respect our space and privacy- engaging only at our initiation. We come primarily to dive and this really works well for us, but we do not spend very much time there. There is space in the "basement area" to store our equipment and suitcases, we really appreciate the washer, so we don't need to take as many clothes, and the price is right. The residence is in a development in Waikoloa, so we are off the "tourist" track- and get to feel a little more like locals. While the studio is small, it met all of our needs for relaxing between outings and fixing good meals. It is our place of choice for shorter stays. As returnee's we have communicated with Jennifer through the year and she has been very helpful in counseling us as we vacation prepped.

Owner's Response: Mahalo for taking time to write a review! We are so glad that you returned to stay with us again, we enjoy having you as guests and neighbors! Our studio is cozy and as you stated it is the perfect size for relaxing between excursions and cooking meals, not to mention the comfortable king bed and brand new love seat! We enjoy having guests in the studio and we are always sensitive to their needs; whether they want to chat/talk story, ask questions or have their privacy, we follow their lead. We love sharing our property, not just inside of the studio, but also outside. There are 2 outdoor seating spaces; the garden nook which is located right outside the studio entrance with a bistro table and chairs and is a perfect spot for lunch and then the BBQ area with a pub height table and chairs, located on the opposite side of the garage from the studio, where guests can grill and/or eat outdoors while watching the sunset (this spot also provides protection from the tradewinds when needed). As mentioned there is storage access around the back of the house where the washer and clothesline are located. You are always welcome to return and we hope to see you again next year! A hui ho...
