The kitchen is fully stocked (no dishwasher) to accommodate up to six people. For the first morning enjoy complimentary gourmet coffee or tea by the wood stove or the pond. Have a BBQ or just relax on the large wrap around deck, surrounded by large Douglas Fir, Cedar, Madrone, wild Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Iris. The grounds are in an all-natural setting on ¾ of an acre, with easy access, just off Hwy 199 in Gasquet. The property is completely fenced for your privacy. The Cabin is in a remote area so cell phone reception is variable depending on your service provider and phone. There is a land-line available for your vacation purposes, but long distance calls are restricted, so you may want to bring a calling card.
There are many times when it's foggy at the coast but it's sunny at The Cabin! It's just a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive to the pristine Smith River. It’s the largest free-flowing (no dams) river in the state, producing the largest Steelhead and Chinook salmon.
From The Cabin it’s just 11 miles on scenic Hwy 199 to Redwood National Park and Jedidiah Smith Redwood State Park. Some of the tallest trees in the world reside here and there are many trails to explore. Drive or bike through Redwood National Park on unpaved Howland Hill Rd. There are massive Redwood trees!
Like the ocean? We’re only 22 miles away as you drive through the Redwoods and Crescent City. In Crescent City there is Battery Point Lighthouse. In fact, there are many lighthouses along the coast. There is a great view from these lighthouses to do some whale watching. Gray whales migrate from December through May. You may also see Orcas and Humpback whales. Northern California and Oregon have some of the most beautiful coastlines. Yet, on those foggy coastal days, Gasquet is usually in the sunshine.
Great Fishing -- Along with Steelhead and Chinook, the Smith also has runs of Silver salmon, Coho and sea-run cutthroat trout. The Chinook runs start in late August, going through late December, with its peak in November. Steelhead starts their runs in early December and goes through March, with their peak in January. The Smith River flows through some of the most beautiful scenery in California. From Six Rivers National Forest through Jedediah State Park, people say that it’s hard to decide which is better, the scenery or the fishing.

I grew up in New York, Diane grew up in L.A. We both moved to the general area because we both love the mountains, the ocean and the many rivers that run through here. When we decided to get married we had to get more property for Diane's horses. So I had to leave this beautiful property...but now we get to visit it!
I was renting a place in Crescent City but I wanted to own my own house. Even though I worked in Crescent City it was too expensive to buy there. So I checked out other possibilities and came across The Cabin. After buying it and living here, I realized what a gem I had. I can take my Jeep on the many logging roads and get the views of the snow covered mountains and the ocean. I can walk to the Smith River. Then there's the massive Redwoods just minutes away and of course the coast. And when Crescent City is fogged in The Cabin is usually in the sunshine!
I drove to Crescent City to work 5 days a week and when it was foggy at the coast, I would just drive into the sunshine when I came to Gasquet. Then I could relax on the large deck in the woods overlooking the little pond.....so rejuvenating!
