AHHH...THE CABIN JUST A 10 MINUTE WALK TO THE PRISTINE SMITH RIVER!

Gasquet Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 Bed/2 Bath Cabin In The Woods

Get away and relax at our clean, comfortable Cabin in the woods. The Cabin will accommodate up to six people. The living room offers a queen size sleeper sofa, with a comfortable conform foam mattress. It also has a 27' TV with a DVD/VHS player and Dish TV with Sirius radio. The master bedroom has a king size bed, Dish TV with Sirius radio and a DVD/VHS player. There is a twin over queen bunk bed in the second bedroom (top bed has a 150 pound weight limit). The kitchen is fully stocked (no dishwasher) to accommodate up to six people. For the first morning enjoy complimentary gourmet coffee or tea by the wood stove or the pond. Have a BBQ or just relax on the large wrap around deck, surrounded by large Douglas Fir, Cedar, Madrone, wild Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Iris. The grounds are in an all-natural setting on ¾ of an acre, with easy access, just off Hwy 199 in Gasquet. The property is completely fenced for your privacy. The Cabin is in a remote area so cell phone reception is variable depending on your service provider and phone. There is a land-line available for your vacation purposes, but long distance calls are restricted, so you may want to bring a calling card.

There are many times when it's foggy at the coast but it's sunny at The Cabin! It's just a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive to the pristine Smith River. It’s the largest free-flowing (no dams) river in the state, producing the largest Steelhead and Chinook salmon.

From The Cabin it’s just 11 miles on scenic Hwy 199 to Redwood National Park and Jedidiah Smith Redwood State Park. Some of the tallest trees in the world reside here and there are many trails to explore. Drive or bike through Redwood National Park on unpaved Howland Hill Rd. There are massive Redwood trees!

Like the ocean? We’re only 22 miles away as you drive through the Redwoods and Crescent City. In Crescent City there is Battery Point Lighthouse. In fact, there are many lighthouses along the coast. There is a great view from these lighthouses to do some whale watching. Gray whales migrate from December through May. You may also see Orcas and Humpback whales. Northern California and Oregon have some of the most beautiful coastlines. Yet, on those foggy coastal days, Gasquet is usually in the sunshine.

Great Fishing -- Along with Steelhead and Chinook, the Smith also has runs of Silver salmon, Coho and sea-run cutthroat trout. The Chinook runs start in late August, going through late December, with its peak in November. Steelhead starts their runs in early December and goes through March, with their peak in January. The Smith River flows through some of the most beautiful scenery in California. From Six Rivers National Forest through Jedediah State Park, people say that it’s hard to decide which is better, the scenery or the fishing.

Please visit our other rental, The Ranch House, at www.vrbo.com/499907. It's located just outside the Historical town of Jacksonville Oregon.

I grew up in New York, Diane grew up in L.A. We both moved to the general area because we both love the mountains, the ocean and the many rivers that run through here. When we decided to get married we had to get more property for Diane's horses. So I had to leave this beautiful property...but now we get to visit it!

Diane Moller purchased this cabin in 1995

I was renting a place in Crescent City but I wanted to own my own house. Even though I worked in Crescent City it was too expensive to buy there. So I checked out other possibilities and came across The Cabin. After buying it and living here, I realized what a gem I had. I can take my Jeep on the many logging roads and get the views of the snow covered mountains and the ocean. I can walk to the Smith River. Then there's the massive Redwoods just minutes away and of course the coast. And when Crescent City is fogged in The Cabin is usually in the sunshine!

I drove to Crescent City to work 5 days a week and when it was foggy at the coast, I would just drive into the sunshine when I came to Gasquet. Then I could relax on the large deck in the woods overlooking the little pond.....so rejuvenating!

TRIP CS....COZY, CUTE, AND CHARMING!

  • 5 of 5
Owner is very communicative and gave detailed instructions. We were a group of young professionals from the SF Bay Area. When we first drove in, we were impressed with the private lot, deck and the surroundings. The cabin is VERY well-maintained. It looked fairly new or recently renovated. The first thing we did was try out the wood-stove (with free wood!) The layout of the cabin is perfect for cooking and entertaining. The kitchen is FULLY stocked with seasonings/pots/pans/dishes. There are even movies and cds in the TV cabinet. Nothing like coming back after a long-hike in the Redwoods to a wood-stove and wine!! (we brought the wine)

We all wished we had planned an extra night. Wish it was closer than 7hrs away so we can visit often. It's such a fantastic value. Great for families and people seeking an escape from technology!

Owner's Response: It's so good to hear that you enjoyed The Cabin as much as we do! It really is a cozy place. Come back anytime!

OWNER'S ATTENTION TO DETAIL SHINES THROUGH IN THIS BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY!

We enjoyed our three nights, four day stay. The location was great. We really appreciated the detailed instructions left by the owner. It was obvious that the owner takes pride in making sure that her guests feel like they have everything that they need during their stay. She even helped us plan our trip via e-mail before we arrived.

In regards to the description of the property, we have Sprint Wireless and had excellent service and reception during our stay. The walk to Smith River takes less than 10 minutes.

VERY COMFORTABLE AND COZY

  • 5 of 5
We had no issues getting to the cabin or getting in; all the instructions were clear and easy to follow. The place is very clean and very beautiful (the pictures don't really do it any justice!), and also very close to a number of recreational areas (like the Redwood forest, creeks and rivers, and the beach). We have a toddler, and found that the cabin features 2 gates that enclose the deck area, which kept our little one safe, and gave us peace of mind while we bbq and relaxed. This cabin is great for families and nature enthusiasts. We loved it, and definitely recommend it!

CLEAN AND WELL EQUIPPED

  • 5 of 5
We rented the unit for a long weekend while in the area for a family event. We found the cabin to be very clean, well equipped and organized. We used the kitchen to make several large family meals. Diane was very helpful and responsive to our questions preceding our stay.

CLEAN AND PEACEFUL HOUSE

  • 5 of 5
Wow, what a relaxing house. There were personal touches everywhere and plenty of towels and blankets. Lots of dishware and pans in the kitchen too. The desk was a wonderful place for our family to get together and we used the bbq and sat out in the evenings star-gazing. Bring bug spray or a scented candle; there were a few mosquitos. During the day, we took the 10 minute walk down to the river. There is a trail across the road and down a steep incline (may be too slippery and steep for some). The other longer way is to walk (or drive) to the road leading down to the campsite (only 1/4 of a mile). A few of us sat in the river for an hour or two. It was very peaceful and we didn't have any people at our location. (It's about knee-high in the highest spots.) I would definately stay here again if I can.

Owner's Response: It's always so nice to hear that our guests had a good time!! And thank you for bringing this to my attention. There is actually a deep swim hole in that area. It is somewhat hidden, so I have now posted directions at The Cabin. Sorry I didn't do this sooner.

CUTE CABIN, NICE LOCATION

  • 3 of 5
The property was very clean and a decent size. It was unexpected that it was all fenced in which was wonderful for our dog. We did want to use both bedrooms with adults and the bunk beds were not safe for an adult (or a child really). We did tell the owner and she apologized and refunded a part of our charges. It was an inconvenience but we made due. Otherwise, the property was good, location was nice and quite. The boys did try to walk to the river and found it easier to drive as the path down got to be rocky and difficult. Wifi would have been nice since there is no cell service.

Owner's Response: Glad that you enjoyed the location and the cleanliness of The Cabin. Again, I'm sorry about the bunk-beds. I told you I would replace them and I ordered a new twin over queen bunk bed. I also just bought a brand new king size euro pillowtop bed for the master bedroom. The up-grades will take place on July 17th, and then I can post the new photos.
Unfortunately, (as stated) we are unable to get WiFi because of the remote area. It is offered 2 miles down the road in a restaurant in the town of Gasquet. Also mentioned in the description is that cel phone reception is variable depending on your provider and phone, mine works in some areas. This is why I provide a landline.
Thank you for your feedback since we are always trying to improve The Cabin.

National Scenic Hwy 199 follows the Smith River. There are many pull-offs along the Hwy where you can park and take the trails that go down to the river. The Smith River offers swimming, fishing, rafting or kayaking. The best part is, since there are so many places, is that you can find a place to have all to yourself!

There's a nice auto tour route through Redwood National Park on Howland Hill Rd. We enjoy this road most in the winter when there's less people and all the trees are fresh and clean from the rain. If you like hiking, the trails are marked and well groomed. One of our favorite hikes is the Boy Scout Tree trail. It's 5.8 miles round trip through the redwoods to get to the impressive 2,000 year old Boy Scout Tree. You can also bike along this road, it's quite spectacular! Next stop if your headed towards Crescent City is the Elk Valley Casino.

If you like hiking, the Pacific Coast Trail is also spectacular! Our favorite beaches are between Harris Beach and Whaleshead in Oregon. Many of the sunsets are worth waiting for.
