About Bert Herndon

Carl and Bert Herndon are long time residents of Bigfork. This wonderful town is where we chose to raise our family. Since the kids are grown, we now 'winter' in a warmer climate but will continue to go back to Bigfork for the summer and fall. Bigfork is a magical village with outdoor activities available for everyone in the village and surrounding areas.

Bert Herndon purchased this house in 2012

Why Bert Herndon chose Bigfork

This property is on the 'still' part of the Swan River and has a peaceful serenity to it. The house is full of charm and warmth and is the perfect place to unwind from your everyday life.

What makes this house unique

This property could not be closer to the river.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are sorry there are no reviews here, but we just purchased this house in November. We did go back to Bigfork for Christmas and decided to stay in the house to see what it was like. It was very pleasant and cozy. The river was beautiful even in the winter! Can't wait for the summer! This is a wonderful house that would be perfect for a summer stay. The boat dock is close and ready for fun. We will do everything possible to make your stay the best.

Bigfort retreat on the Swan River was divine.

  • 5 of 5
We rented this beautiful home on the Swan River primarily as a home base for visits into Glacier National Park. The park was great fun, but the best part of the trip was the time our friends and family spent at the house, kayaking, lounging, playing games, cooking together and hanging out on this AMAZING porch. What a beautiful house, property and overall environment.

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5
I just spent the most glorious week at this magnificent property! Sitting on the porch, gazing at the Swan River, was one of our favorite things to do. We made a couple trips to Glacier National Park, Jewel Basin, local restaurants, etc. Went hiking, horseback riding and kayaking. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go. The house is beautiful, comfortable and has everything you need.

Fun on the swan river

  • 5 of 5
My sister and I and our families have traveled to Montana for the last 7 years. This is the first year we have made it north of Bozeman and it was great!! The nine of us stayed for 5 nights at this fabulous house. Bert was a perfect host and was helpful to us in many ways. Having the river and kayaks to use was a nice activity for all. Hiking in the state is our favorite thing to do and one day we rented a pontoon on Flathead lake and it was beautiful!! Shopping on electric avenue netted some locally made items. My sister is a wonderful baker and the 10 pounds of huckleberries were made into yummy pies, pancakes, danishes and buckles. Hope to come back to the area next year after our trip to Glacier. Can't wait!!!

Great family reunion location!

  • 5 of 5
We live in Montana and wanted to have our family enjoy some of the spectacular beauty of our state. So we planned a family reunion for my husband's 75th birthday over the Fourth of July weekend, and it couldn't have been better (less a few mosquitos which have been a problem this year). There is peace and quiet for those who who wanted to read as well as a second family room for the World Cup fans. The kitchen is roomy and invites group cooking. The bedrooms are spacious, and plenty of bathrooms were availabe. The wrap-around decks were lovely relaxing places to watch the river go by, and the huge lawns provided soccer-kicking space for the grandson. We had six adults and three teens. No one felt crowded, but we all felt the hominess of the house. Bert was always available to answer questions and provide suggestions for activities (loved the Fourth of July parade in Bigfork and the kids loved the kayaks).

Owner's Response: Thanks for your visit and I'm so glad you had a great time. Those little pesky mosquitos are everywhere this summer.

A great find

  • 5 of 5
Beautiful, roomy, clean and well-maintained home. We loved the wood interiors. It's very quiet and dark at night - we all slept longer than usual. It's more tasteful and not kitschy like many other western rentals. The floor plan was great for our family group of 3 couples and one child. It's good to have a second living area where people can have "away" time. The kitchen is roomy enough for several cooks and we enjoyed the grill, outdoor table and comfy deck. The landscaping is lovely and natural. We enjoyed the kayaks, which are very stable and the huge grassy lawns were wonderful for city dwellers. The satellite WiFi was a bit variable, but several family members were able to work here successfully. No disappointments whatsoever, as we have often found in our family VRBO rentals. The landlord lives in town and was very accommodating.
