If you are looking for the most comfortable and relaxing environment from which to enjoy everything Mt. Hood has to offer, you have probably found what you are looking for. Whether it’s for a weekend retreat, a family trip, a ski outing, a romantic escape, or just to get away from it all, you will not find a more relaxing, more private, better appointed house with better views anywhere on Mt. Hood.
Located in Rhododendron in the Mt. Hood National Forest, right next to Welches, OR, this magnificent 2,300 sq-ft chalet can sleep up to 14 people, boasts 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, granite counters in kitchen, hot tub on deck, and is located on almost 5 acres of pristine, private forest right next to the beautiful Sandy River. Are there nicer, bigger houses on Mt. Hood? Sure there are, but are there any that are closer to the river with more breathtaking views? It’s a real paradise for nature lovers, and the area around the house is the best playground for both adults and children.
This Mt. Hood house is located less than an hour away from the Portland airport and is 10 minutes from Ski Bowl. It's a real paradise all year round.
Whereas the house itself is immaculate, beautifully furnished and has everything you could possibly need, it’s the views that will keep you coming back every year once you have experienced it. As one of our guests aptly put it, “it’s heaven on earth”, and it really is. You have perfect views of the river and mountains from the huge deck that wraps around 3 sides of the house, and you are literally only steps away from the water.
Although every room in the house offers views of the river, the dining room/solarium has wall-to-ceiling, two-story windows that offer majestic views of the river and mountain. Even when you are not eating, it's the perfect room in which to relax with friends or family and take in the beautiful surroundings. The dining room has 8 chairs, but you can squeeze in 2 more chairs to seat 10.
The kitchen is a chef’s delight as it boasts granite counter-tops, hardwood floors, gas range, restaurant-type faucet, a large island, Bosch dishwasher, and all the pots and utensils you could possibly need.
Four nicely appointed bedrooms each have their own style and colors and were named after the seasons. They all have different, mountain-themed beds, and one of the rooms has 2 sets of bunks and a sofa-bed. For relaxing in the evening there is a nice hot tub on the deck with a view towards the river. There is a nice pool table in the garage as well.
Part of what makes this house special is that it gets sun all day long. Most houses on Mt. Hood are blocked from the sun by all the trees that surround them. Since the chalet is right on the bank of the river and this portion of the river runs East to West, you get sun all day long, making it a much more enjoyable experience.
Being higher up on the mountain than Welches means that in the winter the snow stays on the ground more often than in Welches or other areas. This means that if you want a white holiday season or you like to see snow in the winter, you have a better chance at this house than you do at most others. There isn't snow on the ground all winter long, but when there is it's quite breathtaking.
