'WEST O' HOUSE is convenient to SXSW, ACL, and the new FORMULA 1. There is plenty of live music found within 1-4 miles of West O Cottage! On South 1st you can find live music at Freddie's Place (restaurant with outdoor seating, serves breakfast, 11 min. walk) and G&S Saloon (during SXSW) along with many coffee shops and restaurants. On South Lamar you will find (just to name a few) The Highball, Saxon Pub, The Broken Spoke, Hyde Park Grill, Central Market (yes they have music in the cafe) and also numerous restaurants! Then there is South Congress (So Co)with live music at The Continental Club and The Continental Gallery, Guero's outdoor patio, Jo's Coffee Shop (Sunday afternoon music) plus numerous restaurants and shops. First Thursdays on South Congress (So Co) is an event in itself with all the shops open late along with the restaurants and trailer eateries (an Austin phenomenon), empty lots that have 4 or more trailers that have been turned into mini kitchens! There are a couple of these lots on South 1st St. One of the most popular trailers is Gourdoughs Doughnuts on the corner of Monroe & So 1st St.
ACL 2012 is in Zilker Park on Barton Springs Rd. Go toward town on 3rd St to Jewell, then left to Bouldin, then right to Barton Springs, ( 1.4 miles and at this point you will be across the street from Palmer Events Center and all the hike-bike trails that go around the lake are just on the other side) take a left on B.S.rd and follow B.S.rd to Zilker Park! This route is 2.5 miles on google map.
South 1st Street has bus stops that go to town for those who want to leave the car behind but be prepared to get a cab back so you can stay late. 'West O' Cottage is 2.1 miles to town.
(I guess I could write a book) If you need more to do I will be happy to give you more! Check out the bars on Rainey Street!! Lots of fun and 2.7 miles away! These bars were old houses and they are very quaint!

If you need to exercise and you belong to the YMCA there is one close, it is across the lake or just go jog around Lake Lady Bird one mile north. There is a year round pool at Stacy Park that is warm in the winter and free, take S 1st to W Live Oak and go right continue thru So Co to East Live Oak and see Stacy on the left (about 1 mile).
