Photos and Description of the Joshua Tree vacation cabin rental
One-room Cabin,1 Bathroom, 2 Sleeps

Walk directly into Joshua Tree National Park from this “tiny modernist jewel” (Western Interiors Magazine), situated among iconic granite boulders on five untouched acres, right on the border of the Park.

The Modernist Cabin provides unmatched access to the Park in a truly private setting, but is just four miles from the village of Joshua Tree. Designed by Ron Radziner of Marmol Radziner and Associates, this re-imagined homestead cabin is the perfect base camp for exploring the Park, star gazing, catching the spring wildflower bloom, attending the JT Music Festival, rock climbing, or sampling the local arts and music scene.

Take a soak outside in the luxe cowboy tub or relax on the patio with a view as stunning as anything in the Park. On Saturday's, visit Joshua Tree’s Certified Farmer’s Market and prepare gourmet meals in the fully-appointed kitchen, or attend a yoga class in town -- free passes to Instant Karma Yoga in Joshua Tree are provided with every booking, and private yoga classes can be arranged.

Featured in Western Interiors Magazine (“a shack for the twenty-first century”), on the cover of the LA Times Home Section, and in Haven: Cozy Hideaways and Dream Retreats (“a modern house that takes design cues from the land itself”), this is THE place for the discerning traveler in search of the ultimate Joshua Tree experience.

The Modernist Cabin is small (about 400 square feet), so bookings are limited to singles and couples without children or pets. Please take a look at the pictures to decide whether it meets your needs. For those booking in colder months, the shower is partially outside, so it can be a bit brisk. But the tankless water heater provides abundant hot water and most of our guests love it year round. We hope to see you soon!

This place has amazing views across the valley to the north and you can literally walk into JT National Park. Towering rock formations begin right in the backyard. Architecturally beautiful and extremely private. Cozy, tastefully appointed. Very little square footage but it is more than compensated by the incredible views, wide open sky, and outside seating areas on either side of the cabin. Very much enjoyed staying here and would definitely recommend it!

Fantastic Desert Retreat

Cannot say enough good things about this modernist rental on the edge of Joshua Tree National Park -- stunning views of the signature big rocks and Joshua Trees greet you at every turn from every window in this cozy cabin. Perhaps the most stunning view is from the indoor/outdoor shower. We spent most of the time either on the shaded patio or out on the desert itself watching the sunrise, crawl across the sky, then set. Quail, jackrabbit, bunnies, go about their daily routines only a few feet away. Hikers can walk right out into Joshua Tree National Park. This is one of those places where time seems to slow. Though the cabin feels isolated, you are only minutes from "downtown" Joshua Tree, which boasts several restaurants and a local artist community. The northern entrances to National Park proper are both only a short drive away. The owners provided great recommendations for local attractions and dining. The descriptions and photos were accurate -- I've already recommend this for friends and family.

Incredible.

This was our first VRBO experience and I can only hope it always goes this well. It was exactly what we were looking for. We just wanted to get away from everything for a weekend, reset and relax. It's bight, sunny, beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. The views are incredible - both into the park, up at the mountains, and in the other direction, back out over the desert and off to the horizon. Amazing place to unwind.

The property is immaculate. Really well designed, it's a beautiful building. When you walk in, open all the cabinets and drawers. Everything has a place, there's exactly enough of everything and zero clutter - lots of attention to detail. The shower is amazing, the bed is comfortable, the windows let in a lot of natural light. Everything was spotless.

We had a great back and forth with the owners about where to get groceries in town, hikes we should look into, etc. They were both very helpful and quick to respond to questions. We wound up only going on one of the hikes they suggested, as relaxation won out over hiking, but we'll get more hiking done next time (already planning a return visit).

We're urging friends to visit. We're in the bay area, so the road trip was part of the fun for us, but we're encouraging people to head down for a long weekend, sit in the cowboy tub (which is roomier than it looks in the photos, we both fit comfortably) with a drink and unwind.

Great romantic getaway

This place is gorgeous and very thoughtfully appointed. Backs right up to the park. Feels very isolated. You can go bouldering out back if you're so inclined. Well equipped kitchen. The outdoor tub is fantastic. And it's only a ten to fifteen minute drive to the West entrance of the park. Highly recommended!

Small but Mighty!

5 of 5
Submitted: January 9, 2013 Stayed: January 2013
My wife and I have been coming to Joshua Tree National Park for over 30 years and staying at the 29 Palms Inn. This is our first experience renting from homeowners in the area and, as a result, plan on renting the "modernist" cabin again. I'm not sure where to begin but, although the place is small, it is indeed mighty! The floor to ceiling glass doors and windows create a spaciousness that belies the square footage. We appreciated the wonderful architectural design and all the attention given to quality and detail: the beautiful wood, the stone counters, the art and flowers. The views are spectacular, not to mention that one can walk right into the Park! The kitchen is well equipped and the bed comfortable. The sound system is first rate, as is everything else in this gem. It was a great treat to be in the indoor/outdoor shower and simultaneously have a view of the Park. Ditto the cowboy tub outside. If you love the high desert, this beautiful cabin and location is a dream come true!
