'MODERNIST JEWEL' ON NATIONAL PARK BORDER, SURROUNDED BY BOULDERS

Joshua Tree Cabin Rental Photos and Description

One-room Cabin,1 Bathroom, 2 Sleeps

Walk directly into Joshua Tree National Park from this “tiny modernist jewel” (Western Interiors Magazine), situated among iconic granite boulders on five untouched acres, right on the border of the Park.

The Modernist Cabin provides unmatched access to the Park in a truly private setting, but is just four miles from the village of Joshua Tree. Designed by Ron Radziner of Marmol Radziner and Associates, this re-imagined homestead cabin is the perfect base camp for exploring the Park, star gazing, catching the spring wildflower bloom, attending the JT Music Festival, rock climbing, or sampling the local arts and music scene.

Take a soak outside in the luxe cowboy tub or relax on the patio with a view as stunning as anything in the Park. On Saturday's, visit Joshua Tree’s Certified Farmer’s Market and prepare gourmet meals in the fully-appointed kitchen, or attend a yoga class in town -- free passes to Instant Karma Yoga in Joshua Tree are provided with every booking, and private yoga classes can be arranged.

Featured in Western Interiors Magazine (“a shack for the twenty-first century”), on the cover of the LA Times Home Section, and in Haven: Cozy Hideaways and Dream Retreats (“a modern house that takes design cues from the land itself”), this is THE place for the discerning traveler in search of the ultimate Joshua Tree experience.

The Modernist Cabin is small (about 400 square feet), so bookings are limited to singles and couples without children or pets. Please take a look at the pictures to decide whether it meets your needs. For those booking in colder months, the shower is partially outside, so it can be a bit brisk. But the tankless water heater provides abundant hot water and most of our guests love it year round. We hope to see you soon!

Oasis of tranquility

  • 5 of 5
My fiance and I stayed here for a weekend. First off the property is beautiful and very chic. Full kitchen, excellent dinning area, bedroom with a view. Most importantly, a shower with a view! This property was perfect in every way. Couple quick notes:

There isn't a microwave so no quick meals. You're going to have to actually cook everything

There's a grill with chimney charcoal starter. You'll need your own charcoal but that's it. They even have a lighter for you to use!

The bed is a little on the small side. I believe it's a full. However, it's arguably one of the most comfortable beds I've slept on. And since it's a Tempurpedic (I think) you won't be sagging into the middle of the mattress.

Night time is amazing. A steady breeze blows across the property and the temperatures are in the mid 70's. The owners have set up lights outdoors to shine on the large boulder and cacti. Absolutely marvelous!

The drive up to the property is on a washboarded and slightly rutted dirt road. We went in an older sedan with plenty of clearance and didn't have any issues. But if your car is quite low...or has low profile tires you might have issues.

You can walk directly into Joshua Tree park from the property. My fiance and I went on a short hike and did some light climbing in the hills behind the property.

All told, my fiance had an amazing time at the property and will hopefully be going back soon.

Everything you could want

  • 5 of 5
The "cabin" was immaculate, well equipped with everything one could need (cookware, etc.), and in a beautiful location that offers lots of "backyard" exploration! We didn't even venture into the park by car, but just wandered across the park boundary right behind the cabin! Great place, would love to come back soon!

As charming and clean as it appears in pictures

  • 5 of 5
The cabin was exactly what I wanted: a clean, quiet, and unique experience. Four things stand out from my 3 nights in this wonderful cabin: 1) how clean it was and how well thought out the cabin was...Nothing was missed in the kitchen, bathroom, etc. 2) how it looked exactly like the pictures only slightly bigger, 3) how quiet and secluded the property felt, and 4) what a great collection of guidebooks the owners had on hand to make the Joshua experience complete. I would definitely stay again and I would recommend it with confidence to my most discerning of friends. I was 110% pleased and will be back!

Less really is more

  • 5 of 5
We absolutely loved this beautifully designed and situated property. The place is conducive to being very active (the hiking/bouldering opportunities are limitless)—or doing absolutely nothing (the tub was wonderful.) If you go hiking, there is little chance of getting lost--the cabin is easy to pick out with its two distinctive pine trees. We had initially assumed that we would get out and do some exploring of the park and surroundings by car, but once we arrived and realized we had Joshua Tree at our doorstep, we decided to leave the car parked, only reluctantly going out once in four days to restock some provisions.

While the cabin is indeed small, that's only if you don't account for the large outdoor spaces (one open, one covered). This is NOT a claustrophobic space, and there is lots of storage space. You need to be prepared for just how different the high desert communities are from Palm Springs; I’d recommend that you stock up on quality provisions down in Palm Springs so you can also avoid the Wal-Mart, which really wrecks the illusion of being in the wilderness.

The host was a pleasure to deal with, and the property was spotless. My only quibbles were the lack of a place to really lounge outside—the chairs don’t quite cut it when you’re feeling lazy. Also, I found it depressing to be surrounded by such natural beauty, only to discover that there are still places in the U.S. that don’t recycle. All in all, a great relaxing retreat—we’ll be back.

Owner's Response: We enjoyed having Anthony and Michael as our guests. Just wanted to note that we do recycle 100% of everything that it's possible to recycle. We don't have a Big City blue receptacle, but our guests need only segregate their recyclables, and we'll take care of it.

Secluded Sanctuary

This place has amazing views across the valley to the north and you can literally walk into JT National Park. Towering rock formations begin right in the backyard. Architecturally beautiful and extremely private. Cozy, tastefully appointed. Very little square footage but it is more than compensated by the incredible views, wide open sky, and outside seating areas on either side of the cabin. Very much enjoyed staying here and would definitely recommend it!

Fantastic Desert Retreat

  • 5 of 5
Cannot say enough good things about this modernist rental on the edge of Joshua Tree National Park -- stunning views of the signature big rocks and Joshua Trees greet you at every turn from every window in this cozy cabin. Perhaps the most stunning view is from the indoor/outdoor shower. We spent most of the time either on the shaded patio or out on the desert itself watching the sunrise, crawl across the sky, then set. Quail, jackrabbit, bunnies, go about their daily routines only a few feet away. Hikers can walk right out into Joshua Tree National Park. This is one of those places where time seems to slow. Though the cabin feels isolated, you are only minutes from "downtown" Joshua Tree, which boasts several restaurants and a local artist community. The northern entrances to National Park proper are both only a short drive away. The owners provided great recommendations for local attractions and dining. The descriptions and photos were accurate -- I've already recommend this for friends and family.
