It's beautiful here!
Our three story, fully updated 2BR, 1.5 BA beach home was built in 1904, and is located right on the waterfront at the very end of Hake Road. The house is built into a hillside and there are about 25 stairs from the parking area to the house.
Incredible views from anywhere you sit and beautiful sunsets. You can anchor your boat at our buoy.
Master Bedroom queen bed, full closet, widow's walk.
Small bedroom with a twin bunk bed, Half-Bath, Full Kitchen, and Living Room/Dining Room with double sleeper sofa. French Doors open out onto covered porch with a hammock and a porch swing.
Family room with large sectional couch (pulls out to a double bed), flat screen TV and queen size futon. Full bathroom, mini bar with refrigerator/microwave. French doors open onto deck with hot tub.
Off the ground floor deck there is a small lawn which leads to a dock over the water. There are also stairs from the lawn to the beach. At high tides, the water comes right up to the seawall so there is limited beach access.
Due to the size of the house, septic, and hot water tank, we have limited our home to 6 people max. If your party contains more than 6 people, you may want to look for a larger property.
We're a family of four from Seattle that loves spending time together and enjoying nature. Amanda is a Finance Manager for city of Seattle and Eric is an Oncology Nurse at UW Medical Center. Ruby and Jeremy are awesome kids and experts at having fun.
Eric Rucker purchased this house in 2012
We've been looking for the perfect Vashon beachfront home for years. Vashon is a special place with a vibrant arts community and extensive natural beauty. We wanted a place that was as sunny as possible - it had to be west facing. Our home has direct sun exposure from about 10:30 in the morning until sunset. We also wanted a place that had a very natural view with exposure to lots of wildlife. We regularly enjoy seeing eagles, deer, fish, seals, otters, various waterfowl and lots of sea creatures along the beach.
A fully updated 1904 Beach House. Three decks to hang out on! A full size hot tub! Beautiful views of Quartermaster harbor from every deck. And about an hour drive/ferry to downtown Seattle. Did we mention that it's really beautiful here?
Beautiful home situated directly on the waterfront of the southwestern tip of Maury Island. A few of us were coming from different locations and found this gem perfectly in the middle. The house is just far enough outside Seattle to give it a home away from home feel without having to drive hours into the middle of nowhere. The property is very private and the house has a great view of the Puget Sound.
We stayed during the winter and the home is very comfy and cozy. The home was extremely well stocked with everything from tons of blankets, to towels for hot tubbing, and the kitchen had everything you could possibly need to make home cooked meals. We were worried about sleeping arrangements because we had six people, but the bunk beds and pullout couch plus all the blankets made it very comfortable for everybody! We were also able to enjoy making a fire in one of two fireplaces! Very cozy! Two large spacious decks for hanging out and enjoying the view.Very nice private dock area and easy access to the beach. During the day we took a few walks up and down the beach and were greeted by friendly neighbors and dogs alike. The hot tub was already turned on and up to temperature when we arrived and was the best part of our stay!
A few days after our stay, Eric, the owner, followed up with me via telephone and was very cordial. From booking the house to checking out, everything went very smoothly. I highly recommend staying here for family vacations and getaways. Everything is provided and anything extra you can get from the store in town, that is about a 10-15 minute drive. Make sure to check the ferry and tide schedules. This house would be amazing in the summer!
We had a fantastic stay on Vashon and the beachfront home was the perfect frame for relaxing with our 2 kids.
We loved the well stocked house, the fantastic views and the beachcombing. We went for small quick dips on the beach and i went swimming (in a wetsuit as the water in the Pudget Sound is pretty cold).
All up we would warmly recommend this house and Vashon to other families with children.
Yes, even in winter, our family of five found this place very inviting and comfortable; we'd like to return in any season! You couldn't find a rental with a kitchen so well stocked. The home beautiful and fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. The view is gorgeous and covered porch a big plus. The furniture and beds are really comfortable and there are inside rooms and outdoor areas where you could be off by yourself if you wish. The deck and patio have room and seating for large groups and the views are beautiful. It is such a peaceful and very private setting. It’s a little hard to get to if you don't like a lot of stairs. You have to go down to the beach when the tide is way out if you want to get a walk in. Enjoyed the view, collecting sand dollars, watching ducks, hot-tubbing. Great location for a vacation. Bring a ferry schedule(s) if planning off-island forays. Would recommend and plan on using this VBRO location again.
We will definitely stay here again. We were 4 adults; 2 writers & 2 artists with occasional day visitors. The three waterfront view levels were particularly enjoyable in that everyone had space to work when necessary, and simply soak in the sea, beautiful sunsets, and the ambiance of this lovely part of Maury Island. This would also be an ideal spot for those with children. This home has a welcoming spirit and its owners could not have been more solicitous of our comfort. We look forward to our next visit.
We found the house and location wonderful. The place had historic character, many handsome architectural features, nice furnishings, and many extras that made it a particularly fine space for families, especially a pair of in-laws and their son's family who also hosted local relatives for several evening meals. There is a grill for cooking delicious meals, board books and toys for small children, an outdoor hosing-off spot for muddy children, a hot tub for evening relaxation, a deck over the beach for observing shoreline life and birds, and of course the two kayaks that gave hours of exploration time on the waves. We also enjoyed the nearby Dockton Park play area and docks.
The pictures cannot do justice to how charming and beautiful the house is. We had the most relaxing time, in an incredible setting.
The owners obviously put great deal of thought into every detail. The kitchen is fully equipped with all cooking equipment we needed. The TV had basic cable and a DVD player, but the kids much preferred to look out the windows at the water and wildlife. There were plenty of games and activities for our 3-year old.
Beachcombing is incredible here. A short walk along Manzanita Beach around the spit to the south gives views of Tacoma. Our kids had a blast looking for geoduck clams or just skipping rocks.
We went on two amazing kayaking outings (but learned to never try this during high winds!).
There are other great hiking opportunities nearby. Don’t miss the beach at the Point Robinson lighthouse.
Vashon’s downtown, about 20 minutes away, has several great restaurants, but you’ll want to make the house your home base as much as possible. We can’t wait to come back!
