With open views across rolling hills to the sea and mountains, the setting may seem rural and completely private but The Eagle's Nest Villa is nevertheless only 800m from the pretty seaside resort of Almyrida with its sandy beaches and waterfront tavernas.
The spacious interiors are perfectly prepared for large families or groups who like to holiday together in total comfort, and our low season prices even make this magnificent property accessible to couples who want to treat themselves to an unforgettable holiday. The thoughtful owner, Giorgos, has carefully designed The Eagle’s Nest Villa with one aim in mind – complete relaxation and happiness for all of his guests
Children and the more active members of the family will be enchanted by the games room and gym on the ground floor of the villa. The games room features a pool table, tennis table, table football, darts board, X-Box 360, plasma TV, mini kitchen, and sofa bed, whilst the gym is equipped with everything from a weight machine, rowing machine, step machine, and running machine to yoga mats. A shower room and a cupboard with safety deposit boxes complete the ground floor layout.
Competing for attention are the 4000m2 of immaculate grounds that have been landscaped using local stone for the attractive walls with nook details, a fountain, a waterfall, and raised flowerbeds planted with oleander, hibiscus, geraniums and South African daisies. Surrounded by olive groves and set within an electric gate and attractive stone walls, privacy is ensured. The lower terrace features a covered parking area, fountain, shrine, and a tennis court that can also be utilised for basketball and volley ball.
The pool on the middle terrace boasts a separate shallow children’s area, 2 outside showers, and, very unusually for Crete is heated for an extra charge at the start of the season. Next to the pool is a lush lawn that is flanked on one side by a pergola covered outside eating area with a stone barbecue and bread oven, and a waterfall cascading down a stone wall on the other. The upper level is a delight for toddlers and small children, with a swing set, a see-saw, and a slide/small house, set on a soft grassy area. The pool, dining area, waterfall, and tennis court are dramatically lit at night to create a very romantic atmosphere. The sea and mountain views are quite lovely from the pool area but without a doubt the breathtaking 360 degree vista from the comfortably furnished roof terrace is unrivalled, particularly at sunset.
Whether you wish to simply chill out with a book next to the pool, take a relaxing soak in the Jacuzzi, barbecue at home, stroll to a beach front taverna for a freshly caught fish meal, explore the area on the villa’s mountain bikes, or work off the delicious Greek food playing tennis, the Eagle’s Nest Villa provides a luxurious and beautiful setting from which to do so.
The lovely village of Almyrida is only from 800m from The Eagle’s Nest Villa, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 5 excellent tavernas, 9 café/bars, 2 bakeries, a wonderful jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 3 gift shops, a pharmacy, an organic fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, an off-license, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, boat trips, horse riding, and organised walking and coach tours. Also in Almyrida there is a scuba diving offiice, and a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans.
The village of Kalives is 3km away and has long been a popular destination for holiday makers seeking a typically Greek seaside resort that has many amenities but is far removed from brash tourism. Kalives stretches along 4 kilometres of sandy beaches, and the narrow main street is lined with old white washed houses. Two rivers run join the sea at Kalives, and there is a traditional fishing boat harbour at the eastern end of the village. There is an abundance of excellent tavernas and cafes lining the seafront, and there are shops of every description.
A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi.
For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 30 minutes away by car. With its stunning Venetian harbour, quayside bars and restaurants, what better place to relax and watch the world go by. In the narrow streets behind the harbour you will find tavernas, bars, the famous covered market, and many local shops selling handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and hand made ceramics.
