El Born family apartment

We had an excellent family holiday staying here at the end of summer 2010.
If we had drawn a 200m circle around the apartment on arrival, we could have just stayed investigating every litlle alley within it & by the end of our week we would have found an excellent selection of breakfast cafes, restaurants, pizzeria, tapas bars, delicatessens, vintners, eclectic shops & necessary banks etc, a proper Italian icecream shop & a wonderful chocolalier.
The apartment is in a good location for families wanting to be in reasonable walking distance of beach, park, zoo, Santa Caterina market, Se and Rambla.
We arrived very late at night and would recommed getting a taxi to anyone else doing the same as the apartment is not easy to find initially.
Once in the daylight we found the excellent bus services nearby made it very easy to travel elsewhere in the city e.g. a bus along the sea front gets you to Placa Espanya & the Magic fountain while from Via Laetiana a bus gets you to within 3 blocks of the Sagrada Familia, the touristic bus stops close by too.
The apartment itself is well appointed & very clean, the photographs represent it accurately. The second bedroom is internal but our children (7 & 10) had no problems with this, the duplex staircase is quite steep but we found its seperating quality good as it encouraged the kids to stay & play/watch dvds downstairs in the morning without disturbing us. The furnishings are very good quality (although obviously a little tired in places) and the excellent air conditioning is unobtrustive making it easy to sleep even on the hottest of days.
The kitchen & dining facilities were perfect for preparing breakfast, light meals, drinks, snacks and suppers but I'm not sure that there would be enough oven trays & pans to create a major meal - anyway we found it far more relaxing to eat out.
Being in a narrow street the apartment does not receive a lot of light which might not suit some but we were expecting this & the only little niggle was that the main bedroom blind was broken at the time of our stay. The street area immediately below the apartment was quiet at night & we were not disturbed by loud music etc.
The apartment owner was very responsive to our emails on booking and helpful with our subsequent queries, even arranging to store our luggage so we could make the most of our last day.
In summary - this was our sixth stay in this lovely city and this was the best apartment we have stayed in so far.
