My family has lived in and around Porltand for over 100 years. I currently work at one of Portland's many Farmers Markets selling organic produce. I love my house and it shows.
Peggy Kindred purchased this cottage in 1982
Location, location, location. You can be downtown or at the Oregon Health Science Center in 10 minutes, head east up to Historic Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood to ski or play in the snow and or go West and be at the Oregon Coast in just an hour and one half.
Our family of five (3 boys ages 10-16) was very comfortable and happy with this house! It's located on a quiet street surrounded by other nice homes. The house is inviting and immaculate with a large backyard and very close to shops and restaurants with a beautiful park around the corner. It's comfortably furnished with a nice floor plan; bathrooms and kitchen are spotless and amply stocked; large yard is well-tended. This place has been lovingly maintained and in a word, just feels like "home." We felt fortunate to have found this spot and would highly recommend it to anyone.
My husband and I recently had a family gathering over a long holiday weekend where we enjoyed our stay at the Urban Country Cottage. The listing description and photos are clearly accurate and reflect the property's well maintained appearance and comfort. Because our stay included the Thanksgiving holiday, we cooked our own meals and appreciated a well stocked kitchen with adequate cooking utensils and ample dishware for the family. With close proximity to downtown Portland, we enjoyed the convenient location to nearby parks and market. The property owner was extremely helpful in answering our questions. We would definitely recommend this property to others and would return to this lovely Country Cottage for our next visit to Portland.
We were expecting a vacation rental in the sense of something not currently lived in. There were a lot of personal effects (funeral service/obituary picture on fridge, prescription medication on shelf in laundry room, laundry in the dryer, "private please do not open" tags on most doors, family photos, etc) in the house that made it a little uncomfortable to stay in. Knowing that the house was still being lived in made us feel very uneasy and like we were intruding. There were also a lot of bugs in the house (mosquitoes, moths, slugs, spiders) including a spider in our bed. I know household pests are normal, but this seemed a bit extreme.
The location was great - just minutes away from Multnomah Village restaurants and shops and quick freeway access.
Overall, we will not be staying here again and would not recommend it to anyone.
I spent four days here with my family, and we absolutely loved it. The house is extremely comfortable, the yard is nice, and the location was great for us as well. We loved picking blueberries from the bushes in the back yard, and eating the eggs gathered from the chickens on the property (although there was only 1-2 per day, so we supplemented with eggs from the store).
We would certainly stay here again.
This is a wonderful place to stay. The yard is lovely and spacious. The neighborhood is quiet and great for walking. There is a nearby park with a playground that was great for walks. The location is perfect. It was easy to get around and see the sites of Portland. Soaking in the bathtub was a great way to unwind and relax at the end of the day. Making breakfast with eggs from the chickens was also great. It is a very comfortable and cozy place to stay.
We are centrally located 10 minutes to the Oregon Zoo, Children's Museum and Oregon Museum of Science, and Downtown Portland with all it offers. One and one half hours to the beach and approximately One hour (weather permitting) to Mt. Hood area ski resorts. Washington Square Mall with Apple Store, Lucy, Nordstrom, Lego Store, Eddie Bauer Micro Brew Pubs and so much more within walking distance and/or a short bike ride.
