We have resurrected a 60-year-old hand made log cabin and turned it into a very unique and intriguing home. It is all together beautiful, luxurious and intimate.
The Love Nest sleeps 2 Adults in a TEMPUR-PEDIC 'Cashmere' California King bed with UPSCALE linens, and will accommodate 2 more Adult guests in super-comfy twin beds- also with upscale linens- in the tree house- a small, cozy, heated room just 10 steps from the main cabin. Our goal was to retain the charm of the home while COMPLETELY rebuilding every aspect of it's infrastructure.
We installed all new windows, glass doors, appliances, electrical system, plumbing system and a radiant-heated Chinese slate floor-(Floors are heated during Winter). The radiant heating is fired up for your comfort during the Winter. Every room in the cabin has this slate floor, which is of many hues and a fascinating pattern. The gourmet kitchen features new upscale stainless appliances, all granite countertops, and gorgeous blue cabinets that were custom fitted by a local craftsman. You'll also have a nice Wolf stove with 4 burners and a big griddle for those mornings when you want to cook your own breakfast.
The Bathroom features a huge curved walk-in glass block shower built for two. There's a big skylight above, and a copper shower head that emerges from the ceiling. The bath also features a wonderful polished concrete vanity that was hand-made by a local artisan.
You'll have a 7.1 Yamaha/Denon/Klipsch/Velodyne sound system in the living room that is a real treat. There are built-in high-end Klipsch speakers all around the room. You will also enjoy an HD 8' diameter screen and a ceiling-mounted Sony HD projector. The combination of the screen and the sound system creates an absolutely terrific movie or sports viewing experience!
In the bedroom you'll have a wall-mounted HD 55' LED flat screen and a built-in Bose sound system. There is one more HD flat screen in the living room near the fireplace that's perfect to cuddle up in the afternoon on the cozy love seat to watch the fire and some TV. There's also a gorgeous new Yamaha piano if you like to tickle the ivories.
High-speed wireless internet service and complimentary long-distance telephone service within the United States are provided for your unlimited use.
If you like to be super-cozy, you will love the heated slate floors during the Winter. Fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom top it all off. The living room fireplace will be loaded and ready for you to strike a match and have a romantic fire for your first night's stay! And……..firewood is always provided!
You'll have a generous selection of Keurig K Cups and a Keurig coffee maker. When you arrive, you will find some essentials have been supplied- Half and Half in the fridge along with local eggs, milk, some orange juice and frozen pastries to pop in the oven if you like. Or- why not take a walk to nearby Occidental and have breakfast at Howard Station- a historic establishment with great breakfasts.
The outside of the Love Nest really fun, too!
THE SPA- called the 'Serena Bay'- It's BIG. It's a wonderful experience to gaze at the stars while soaking in this special spa. It's filled with spring water from our own spring, and thoroughly cleaned before each couples' stay.
The POOL...… It's GORGEOUS, and kept WARM with solar heat during the Summer. (The pool is closed during cold weather). The adjacent lanai has a bar crafted from an ancient slab of reclaimed redwood that was harvested right off the property. The pool is surrounded by a redwood deck. It's fun to hang out in the expansive open-air 'surf shack' themed lanai by the pool in any kind of weather. There is a stainless gas barbecue that's always ready for grilling the dinner of your choice. On the patio you'll also find a charming fire pit for those starry evenings- making good conversation and s'mores. It is always stocked with firewood for you- just light a match and enjoy!
The outdoor sauna- made of all clear cedar wood, and shaped like a wine barrel. It's located just a few steps outside of the Love Nest's door. It's really a treat!
Sun? Lots of it! The Love Nest is located in a redwood forest, yet you'll enjoy a VERY sunny spot. You can gaze across the valley and you'll see that the Love Nest is actually located higher than many of the 100' tree tops in the canyon. Occasionally you can spot a Bald Eagle soaring high above, or the Red Tail Hawk mating pair that lives nearby.
If you are an outdoor adventurer you are going to love this place. You will be close to exciting open-air activities. Sonoma Canopy Tours will have you zip-lining over the Redwoods and taking in the very best view of the valley. Be sure to investigate the spectacular sky bridges and the 30 foot spiral staircase along the way. It is a riveting, astounding, and awe-inspiring journey that is sure to leave you with lifelong memories.

Come and stay at the Wine Country Love Nest! It will be a lovely experience that you will never forget!
Jeanne and I have been happily married for 30 years. Robert was born in San Francisco and grew up in Santa Rosa- Jeanne was born and raised in Santa Rosa. Our family has owned the property since the 1950's We have lived in Sonoma County all of our lives. Our interests and hobbies are bicycling, traveling, hiking, kayaking, swimming, appreciating music and the arts, and enjoying the wonderful community in which we live. We always try to make the most of every experience, and are a very happy couple. We hope you can come, stay, and enjoy a visit at our very special Wine Country Love Nest!
Robert and Jeanne purchased this cabin in 1956
Our property was purchased by my grandparents in 1956. Ronbert moved onto the property in the 70's to help them get along so they would not have to go into a care facility. Robert had fallen in love with this cabin when he was a little guy, and his dream was to care for the cabin after the grandparents passed. After his grandparents passed away, he purchased the property from the family's estate. It is a serene and beautiful sanctuary . And- The Wine Country Love Nest is a very special couple's retreat. We love it and we'll bet that you will love it too! Everything you need for a very enjoyable stay is included in the rental fee, save food and drinks. We provide all of your firewood for the two fireplaces, and even your first morning's continental breakfast.
All of the cabin's cabinets, closet, and drawers are yours for your stay! Don't forget to check them all before you have to depart!
A special benefit of the Wine Country Love Nest is it's LOCATION. It is located near Bodega Bay and Northern California's stunning coastline on the Pacific Ocean- (20 minutes away) and a very short drive to some of California's finest wineries. There are wineries only 20 minutes away! There are vineyards within walking distance in our neighborhood!
You can bicycle to the charming little hamlet of Occidental in 5 minutes.
The close proximity to Occidental and it's wonderful restaurants, pubs and shops make for a very relaxing vacation. You don't have to go far to eat, shop, go wine tasting, go antiquing, ride, kayak or hike. The Wine Country Love Nest is centrally located to all that Northern California has to offer. You will love it!
Last time we were at the Love Nest we booked again before we even left. This was that trip, and it exceeded our already high expectations. The combination of pool, hot tub, sauna, and privacy surrounded by redwoods is unbeatable. The comfy bed, cozy fireplace, big screen TV, and cooks kitchen round out our favorite of all the VRBO properties we've stayed in. And our dog loves it, he had a great time and made some new friends too. We will be back again. Would give 6 stars if I could.
My wife and I purchased a honeymoon getaway for our daughter and her new husband. We wanted to arrange for a specific wine and some other "surprises" to be waiting for them when they arrived. I contacted Robert and asked if he could help us out. He didn't hesitate. I sent out a box of goodies as well as a check for additional wines, cheeses, etc. The spread he arranged on the coffee table was exquisite. He really went above and beyond in making our kids feel at home. He even helped arrange a special surprise for the newlyweds, but that's another story...Thanks for all you did.
There's not enough complimentary words in the dictionary to say about this place and the hospitality you will receive from the owners, Robert and Jeanne! In fact, I almost don't want to say at all - as I would love to keep it as my little secret...but that wouldn't be fair to them. My husband and I went for an anniversary weekend. Their cabin has more than we could have hoped for and Robert & Jeanne have absolutely thought of EVERYTHING! From the anniversary card as we arrived to the treats for our dog. Beyond the fine touches, the unit is gorgeous. The setting is more than relaxing. And, while we thought we would spend some time in the town, we opted to just stay in and enjoy everything about the Nest. We have rented vrbo locations around the world and none have had the perfection that this place and their hospitality bring.
We can't wait to come back here one day!
This Love Nest is absolutely breathtaking. So much attention to detail--it immediately felt like home. My husband and I had access to everything from outdoor adventures (easy drive to hikes in the redwoods or to a picnic on the beach), local flavor (please have a brew at Barley and Hops) and low key evenings (hot tub under the stars & then a movie on the big screen projector?.....yes!). What loving and thoughtful owners. Highly recommended!
The title says it all - our stay at the Nest was perfect! The cabin and grounds were impeccable and exceeded our expectations. The kitchen / patio / grill were perfect for us, being a couple that loves great food (who doesn't?) and loves to cook. We had everything we needed to create our memorable meals. Really, the cabin overall created such a warm, open, an inviting space that we felt relaxed and totally at home the moment we walked in. The surrounding gardens and forest were beautiful and were perfect to walk through in the morning sun as we enjoyed our coffee (and each other's company in the peace and quiet!).
But even more impressive than the cabin itself was the pool / sauna / spa area. When outside enjoying this amazing space, we truly felt like we were just dropped in an oasis in the treetops surrounded by breath-taking views and beautiful sunshine. This completely private space really made our stay one we will never forget.
As a bonus, the owner Robert is an amazing individual. I am just in awe of how he was able to artfully blend the high-end technology in the cabin to stay "plugged-in" but in an environment and space that made it easy to "tune out" and relax. He also went above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one - from providing an extra bottle of champagne our first night to his working around the clock to open the main pool for us. It is obvious that we wants to create the perfect stay while providing the privacy and comfort we all expect in getaway vacation.
I have stayed in many VRBO rentals in the past but have never taken the time to review one. But after this absolutely perfect stay, I felt compelled to write this review and give this property my highest recommendation. We are looking forward to the next time we can escape our busy lives to enjoy the Nest! Thank you!
We have only had positive experiences with VRBO. We happily have always given positive reviews reflecting our experience. Sadly, we cannot give a good review for this property. The studio is dark but well equipped. There is only 1 small bathroom so it would be crowded with a second couple. The owners house is right across the gravel driveway. You can hear his dogs barking and when he and his family go in and out of the gravel driveway. The property has a series of old run down shacks. Some are abandoned and others have tenants. Within some of these areas there is trash strewn about. We had looked forward to some nice nature walks but the unsightly trash and abandoned shacks destroyed that experience.
On a more upbeat note, the property is very close to town and you can walk there. Some of the owners restaurant recommendations seem more in keeping with steering you to his friends restaurants rather than good food.
In all fairness it would be dishonest to recommend this VRBO.
Located just a very short drive to all that Sonoma County has to offer. The quaint hamlet of Occidental is rich in things to do and see. Great restaurants, fun boutique shopping, Farmer's Market, Organic market, and the world-famous Union Hotel. And- it is a road-biker's paradise! there is a world class ropes course just down the road (3 miles).
