Some things you need to know

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at the Rising Fawn, GA cabin the week of 4/05/15.

Getting There - directions

First off the driving instructions you receive from the owner aren't great. So be prepared to find it on your own. After you find it once you're fine getting there and back to any myriad of places. The roads are rough, even the paved have big pot holes. Luckily we have a truck but others in our party had a Camry and found it precarious navigating the large pot holes, lakes covering parts of the road, and hill climbs. To the owners I would suggest sketching a map with the images of the land marks you speak of so its easier to find. Also offering the exact coordinates of the cabin gets you closer than you think it does. If you are considering this place because of its proximity to Chatanooga just note that its a solid 30-40 minutes away and if there's construction or traffic that quickly goes to about an hour drive.

Appearance

The cabin is beautiful. Knotty pine on the walls, floors and ceilings. Its got great polished floors. Which prohibits explicitly you from moving any furniture. This was an interesting rule and I get it but it made it a little off putting. The wrap around deck is wonderful and the view is spectacular. There are fans on the deck so even in the heat it wasn't awful to be sitting out there looking at the view. Its also up in the mountains so cooler than other lower elevations.

Kitchen

The kitchen is very stripped down and basic in terms of usefulness. I've stayed at a few different VRBO's around the world most have basic kitchen "stuff" and while this has a beautiful kitchen it lacks the basics. You'll need to pack a lot of extras or plan on going to the grocery store before you arrive. For example there's no cling wrap, no aluminum foil, no zip lock bags, no oil, no seasonings, and only 1 roll of paper towel and 2 hand towels. So we had to use the paper towel for napkins, the one set of kitchen towels was dirty and wet by the 2nd day and we had to improvise so that we weren't running the washing machine and dryer for just small hand towels. We ran out of paper towels pretty quick. Its fine you can get by but its annoying at first and then inconvenient and leaves you really frustrated quickly. I'm used to VRBO's where the last person to stay there sort of leaves some staples for the next person and you have some basics like oil, salt and pepper, butter, etc. Just be prepared to outfit the kitchen and then apparently take everything

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

  • 5 of 5

The pictures don't do this beautiful cabin justice! So much more than we had ever imagined. And the owner was an absolute delight to work with. This was the perfect place for a family get-away. Just wish we had more time to explore the beautiful area. Thanks so much for allowing us to enjoy this wonderful place!

Beautiful and secluded

  • 5 of 5

This place is beautiful and has tons of charm. The purpose of our vacation was to go to the aquarium and attractions in Chattanooga to celebrate birthdays, and end of chemo. The drive wasn't bad at all maybe 30mins. Wish we had planned a longer stay because no one was ready to leave. Plenty big for my fiancé and me, my parents, and my sister, her husband and my almost 3 yr old niece.

Annual Friends Trip

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Union Hill was fantastic! We rented the cabin for our trip that our group of friends take every year. It was so beautiful inside and out. We really enjoyed the seclusion and peacefulness the cabin provided. The wrap around porch was perfect for our nights, since it rained most of our stay. We even took a nice 4 mile hike around the preservation.

It was plenty of room for our 7 adults. The bedrooms were large and we had enough room to sit around the table and play cards. It was a perfect location for us, with people coming from middle TN, Chattanooga, TN and Alabama. We will be back for our future get togethers, loved everything about Union Hill!

Peaceful and well equipped!

  • 5 of 5

The owner was very helpful while we were trying to reserve this cabin. She was also flexible when we decided to make it a three night stay instead of four. The cabin is in Rising Fawn, GA which is about 30 minutes south of Chattanooga, so it is a bit of a drive, but we enjoyed the cabin so much that we didn't leave unless we had to. It takes about 15 minutes just to get to the cabin from the interstate. So it's secluded and off the beaten path as it should be. There is a beautiful lake down the hill from the cabin where you can see horses roaming around and drinking the water.

The cabin itself is spectacular: wraparound porch (we got a couple of our tailgating chairs since there were only two rocking chairs), well-furnished with rustic flair, the bathrooms were spacious, but the water pressure was lacking. We cooked several meals in the kitchen, and had just about everything we needed, with the exception of a big chef's knife, and a large cutting board. There is a master bedroom/bath downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs that share a big bathroom. There is also a daybed upstairs which we didn't need.
