Villa Ekbacken gives you the best of two worlds - both the the possibility to explore Stockholm and surroundings and a peaceful living in the midst of Stockholm’s magnificent archipelago. At Ekbacken you spend your holiday in a large, open planned villa, with a large garden, situated by the waterfront, with your own jetty, your own boat and sauna at your disposal. Villa Ekbacken is ideal for family and friends. Villa Ekbacken is situated on the island of Stegesund, a 10 minute boat ride from the small archipelago town of Vaxholm. It takes one hour on a scenic route with the local ferries to reach the hearth of Stockholm. Villa Ekbacken is recommended all seasons of the year. Why not spend a early spring week by the edge of the water? Or take a autumn week with good books, walks, mushroom picking and cosy evenings in front of the open fireplace? Enjoying a sauna is equally relaxing whether it is plus or minus degrees! More information: http://www.stegesund.com
Hej! I am Anna the landlady. During summer I live with my husband and our teenage twins 2 kilometers from VIlla Ekbacken in a large old jugend villa build already in 1914. We love the sea and the archipelago. During winter we live in Stockholm and I work at a design agency - you might tell from the scandinavian architecture and the nordic interiour design at Villa Ekbacken ;-)
During summer I comute with the local ferries from the island to my office in Stockholm every day. It is a lovely trip and a nice way to start my morning!
Anna Klingspor purchased this villa in 2005
I would say that Villa Ekbacken is the best of two worlds. You have a lovely scandinavian villa with a very large garden right down to the seafront with your own jetty and your own boat. It is situated on a beautiful island with old large houses, lovely nature and and friendly people. Plus with the local ferry you can easily reach the center of Stockholm for city puls, shopping and local tourist sites.
Close the island you have small little Vaxholm a very pittoresque village where you find your local bakery, fish and vegetable market and of course a local supermarket. It only takes you 10 minutes from your house to Vaxholm, either with your own little boat or with the local ferry. All my guest are thrilled by taking the boat to shop or visiting the local restaurant!
I would say the whole island is unique! It is not a very small island. I think we are all toghether about 80 houses plus lots of wild nature and forest, perfect for picking blueberries, rasberries and muschrooms, or why not go for a run or a walk?
On the island we have an unique tennis court - it is build on wood! We think it is the only remaining wodden tennis court. It is well looked after and has been restored during the years. All members of our local tennis club play, we have tennis school for children and adults and end of July every year we have a big tournament for all members. As my guests at Villa Ekbacken you are welcome to use the tennis court. It is included in the rent and free of charge.
We were staying at Villa Ekbacken for a few days in mid-October and really loved it. The house is very cosy and extremely well kept, it felt like home from the first minute. Everything you would want in a holiday home is provided for. We loved the open fireplace and the sauna. Anna is a great host and welcomed us with a bottle of wine and chocolate. We almost had the island to ourselves at this time of the year - with just deer and sheep as our neighbours.
We hope to come back one day!
Travelling with our 4 kids, (5, 9, 11, 13), Villa Ekbaken was the perfect location for a fantastic 2-weeks-family-holiday.
The house is completely equipped, including a little boat, bikes, tennis rakets, fishing poles, life-vests - everything in different sizes for the kids - perfect for a relaxed stay!
We enjoyed the little island with its wodden tennis court and the lovely scenery.
Having breakfast at the wodden deck while watching the boats passing Stegesund - so every day gets a perfect day. The boys loved fishing at the jetty, so we several times had griiled fish for dinner.
The little boat was very helpful for our spontaneous trips to Vaxholm.
Anna, with Villa Ekbaken you created a little piece of heaven!
Congratulations!! - and be sure - we will return!
2nd trip to Sweden so we spent 2 nights in Stockholm (recommend Hotel Skeppsholmen) and then 7 nights at Villa Eckbacken.
Perfect sunny weather for 10 days in September! Beautiful clean house on an exclusive car free island and yet very accessible. We made good use of the 5 day ferry card and took a trip back to Stockholm and also out to Finnhamn on the outer archipelago. Nice to see a Sea Eagle on that trip.
Best of all was the use of the motor boat and our daily trips to Vaxholm to get the shopping. Particularly recommend a latte and cinnamon bun at Café Gateaux.
Also loved my daily walk around Stegesund and seeing 2 Roe Deer in our garden from the house.
Thanks Anna for a super stay.
Villa Ekbacken was everything and more than the listing said, words cannot really give a true feeling of the beauty and serenity of Villa Ekbacken and the island of Stegesund. No cars on the island, just bird sound and the boats passing. Deer feeding in the early morning in the lovely garden surrounding the villa. Tea or breakfast on the dock bathing in sunshine with the nature all around reflected on the water. use the boat to discover the surrounding islands, or nip over to Vaxholm to do the groceries and enjoy a pastry and coffee in the many cafes, or have lunch.
The villa has a lovely decor, again peaceful and yet uplifting. Wifi for those who can't let go of life as they know it, and yet the surroundings do everything they possibly can to encourage you to do just that…relax, unwind, enjoy the nature, sauna, swim, read and rest, take a walk in the woods, practice your yoga and mindfulness, have a BBQ.
Or for those who want a bit more entertainment, jump on the ferry that stops 4 min walk away, and head to Stockholm….and after a day sightseeing and shopping in this lovely city…look forward to retreating back to this slice of Paradise.
We'll be back for sure!
Our rating is a 5 star, due to the beauty of the scenery and loveliness of the house, the large wooden deck,
the very pretty dining room and beautiful china, huge teacups and loads of lovely white heavy bowls.
Location is also fantastic: directly on a lively canal with a vast number of slow motor boats and sailboats passing by, at a distance of only 4 minutes to Vaxholm. The ferries that stop on this Island go all the way in to Stockholm, or further out into the archipelago. There is a very convenient boat taxi that drives to the house for about 25 euros.
There is also a private jetty by the water where we had lunch several times while admiring the passing boats; its a real plus for the house.
Who wants to be anywhere else really than in a place like this when it is summer?
House has two bedrooms that are nice and large, one is tiny. There is only one bathroom with shower.
There is also a room down by the water in a house on the jetty, very pretty also, at a distance from the house. It has no bathroom. Then there is the tower room, a very pretty calm room that can be used for reading.
villa Ekbacken is such a perfect place that you tend to become very contemplative. the setting and island are fabulous, you are away and at the same time close to everything. the fact that not having the car with you but a boat to go buy the bred in the morning also gives a sense of being part of something very special.
Anna the landlady, on her side, is amazingly confident in letting us make use of such a wonderful place in which you can see that it has been cared for with much delicacy, exquisite taste and love. you just feel at home because everything is how it should be,in the correct way, form and place in a personal and intimate way.
The island of Stegesund is attached to the island of Hästholmen. Both islands are well known for their large fin-de-siècle villas from late 1800. There are no cars on the islands, which makes bicycling and walking even nicer. Nature invites you to glittering narrow coastal inlets, tall oak trees and prosperous meadows.
The archipelago will offer you clean water and Nordic light.
In the small town, or rather village, of Vaxholm you will find food stores, fish monger, pharmacy, wine merchant, restaurants and more. Vaxholm is very picturesque and summertime the village is buzzing. Vaxholm cold easily be reached by your own boat, local ferry or by taxi-boat.
Stockholm is close. Do not miss the Wasa Museum, Astrid Lindgren’s Junibacken or some good shopping! The local ferries are only 150 meters from the house and leave several times per day. The scentific trip through the archipelago takes about one hour.
Other Activities: Don't miss sightseeing in Stockholm - only one hour away with the local ferry
