Nice location for friends / family get-together

  • 4 of 5
We spent a very enjoyable week here in August 2013 - a family reunion with 16 people from age 10 to over 50. The house is a little quirky in layout and the kitchens are a little small and somewhat lightly equipped for preparing meals for 16. That said we improvised and made it work and the large dining room was a great venue for the meals that we did eat as a unit. The terrace overlooking the pear orchard was a nice breakfast location for about 8 people.
The house details at the time of booking suggested that wifi was available but this was not the case and seems to have been updated since then. Otherwise, everything in the house was as expected and we were accommodated comfortably.

The house is in a stunningly beautiful area. The beach is a 15 minute walk away or 5 minute drive. It's about an hour to Picos de Europa national park. The northern route of el Camino de Santiago de Compostella runs through the beach so there are pleasant hiking routes nearby.

The location pin for the house on homeaway map is not 100% accurate. The house actually fronts on the N632 so passing traffic while moderate is very noticeable.

The owner, Maite, gave us good directions for the last kilometer and met us at the house. She was helpful when necessary and also left us to enjoy this beautiful spot undisturbed.

I'd recommend this house to any similar sized group or family that wants to get to know this beautiful part of Spain.

Owner's Response: La Raposerina is a catalogued Villa de Indiano, built in the last decade of the19th century, so trying to adapt it to the modern standards of comfort wasn´t-isn´t - ,easy at all, as my priority is to respect its romantic, exotic mood. I could have designed a larger kitchen when I made the new one, but it would have implied destroying the beautiful Sevillian tiles in the hall. Otherwise everything is double: fridges, microwaves, irons, mixers, toasters and large pots for 17.

As for wifi, the area is still in waiting, but there is an open, free telecenter in Caravia Alta where we walk to get connected and then we prize ourselves with a gorgeous traditional Asturian lunch in nearby Casa Carlos or Hotel Caravia. Luckily the return is downhill!

Thank you for enjoying your stay and for taking the trouble to contribute with your comment to my efforts to keep improving.

Declared of historic interest, tle villa named La Raposerina is a Casona de Indiano dating back to the 19th c., built by an emigrant returned from Cuba as a rich man. The tower was added in the 30ies. Furnished with both colonial and period furniture, it keeps the magic of its time. As every Casona de Indiano, it is placed in a prominent environment in the hamlet, showing off her ultramarine origine by means of a great palm tree behind which we can appreciate the beautiful woodwork of the gallery. It is some ten minutes´walk from the reputed, gorgeous, semi-wild beaches. Close by, the impressive Sierra del Sueve offers the most breathtaking views of this mountain range, the highest and closest to the sea shore in Europe. Apart from cattle and farm animals, you can easily come across wildlife, too. The restaurants in the area are among the best in Asturias, where the good regional cuisine goes along with really low prices. It is a renowned area for its Romanic and Preromanic churches.

Other Activities: Excellent typical restaurants

Golf:

Three km from the property, in the village called Berbes, there is a tranquil golf course in spectacular setting overlooking beaches and sierras.
