Betsy has always wanted to be involved with healing through natural means. The mind body connection teaches us that environment can be the best medicine for someone with a stressful lifestyle. We offer a respite from the daily grind. We have seen the effect this has on guests that arrive stressed, nervous, agitated and leave rested, with serenity, tranquility, peacefulness.

Whats not to love? Ocean front, no visible neighbors or road, seclusion, privacy, the ultimate destination for serenity, peace, tranquility.
Eye candy views, the tidal pools, expansive lawns and the jungle canopy of flora that keeps the road far away from the guest. There is a peaceful uplifting feeling for those that come here. Many people comment on the 'good feeling' spiritual experience they get here. Let the surf lull you to sleep every night! Watch the pink orange sun rise over the ocean each morning.
Rumor has it that Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones stayed here. This is unverified of course.
Oceanfront, unobstructed views, no street or houses between the cottage and the beach, tidal pools to play, examine and soak in. Abundant sea life such as whales, dolphins, sea turtles and reef creatures to marvel at. Very private on all 4 sides, so unique! Not visible from the street. Play croquet or volleyball or just dig your toes in the lawn.
Camping is available for the extra guests. There are tents available for rent. There is a 3/4 bath detached. A delightful bamboo and river rock outdoor shower with hot and cold running water.

Enjoy your gourmet meal or snack on the open lanai/kitchen/dining room with the best view in town!
DISCLOSURE: This is a lava zone 2!! The lava flows on this Island which many people are counting on when visiting. The road hwy 130 may be affected with the lava moving slowly in that direction 100yds/day. There are 9,000 residents who all need a route to do commerce here. I know of 2 roads being opened up. One will reconnect hwy 130 to Volcano and the other to Hilo will be a shorter distance then the current route. This is the Big Island experience as it happens!
Betsy was informative, friendly and accommodating. The cottage has a kitchen outside on the porch and there is an outdoor shower. The toilet is a short walk down a few stairs and about 20 feet away. The ocean is close and lulls you to sleep. Whales sometimes can be seen. Overall, a great experience.
My son and I stayed at the studio for 5 days and had a great time! Located on the ocean side of the beautiful Red Road, it was private, surrounded by lush scenery. Great stargazing at night and just a stones throw away from the ocean. Being August, I was worried that it might be too warm to sleep without AC, but that wasn’t the case at all. In fact, we slept with a light blanket, and as a bonus, the waves lulled us to sleep. The studio was very clean and in great shape. As others have said, I wish we had stayed much longer. One more thing, the on-site owner, Betsy, was a fabulous hostess— very kind and accommodating!
My daughter and I loved staying here. It has provided us with so many lasting memories. Our hosts, Betsy and Victor, were awesome, giving us a tour upon arrival and making us feel welcome. My only regret is that we were on the go so much, and out exploring the island, when we visited. This is a perfect location for simply hanging out--painting, writing, exploring the area just outside your door. It was wonderful to be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves. It is such a serene place. Quite lovely. I would very much like to go back.
We stayed with Betsy & Victor for one week, and had a fabulous time!!!
Breakfast in the outside Kitchen was a real treat, the feel of being in the Jungle with the views and sounds of the Ocean, and with all the Geckos visiting.
Enjoyed it 100%
If you are looking to rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit this is the place for you! My husband and I spent 2 wonderful weeks here. Betsy and Victor were very hospitable, accommodating, and knowledgeable about surrounding activities and places to visit. They were there to lend a helping hand if needed, otherwise the place seemed as if it were all ours! Penny and Pharaoh (dog & cat) make their presence known, but are not intrusive - they seem to know when to show up and when to disappear. Betsy and Victor definitely made us feel as if we were "home". Living "off grid" was an adventure within itself, but we still had luxuries of the real word if we needed to be "connected". Waking up to a beautiful sunrise as you drink your coffee and drifting off to sleep with the waves crashing in the background is priceless. Enjoying fresh coconut water for breakfast will be missed - as will Victor's excellent demonstration of how to open the coconut! Betsy even left us surprises of papaya and mangosteen in our fruit basket on a few occasions. They invited us to dine with them at their table and treated us to a "local" dinner, which was one of the highlights of our visit!
If you feel adventurous, you do not even have to leave the property. There are plenty of tide pools to explore and sea life to observe. If you grow tired of that (which I cannot imagine) you can take nature walks, drive down to Uncle Robert's Cove, or just cruise the coast - it is all so breathtakingly beautiful! We would definitely recommend this hidden gem to anyone seeking simplicity, adventure, and rejuvenation!
Listing and pictures are as described. Property is well maintained. Betsy and Victor were there if we needed them, always helpful and giving great pointers. Don't miss the Hilo market - especially on Wednesdays and Saturdays, check out the geothermal pool, view the lava glow at night, and get some snorkeling in at two-step!
MAHALO Betsy and Victor!!!!!
My wife and I spent four relaxing days in March in this lovely out-of-the way retreat; a welcome change from the traffic and tourist scene of Kona. The hosts, Betsy and Victor, were fun, helpful, and unobtrusive, and made our stay really special. We shared a Hawaiian dinner and a breakfast, drank some of their wonderful coconut milk, and learned much from them about local goings on. The large one-room cottage was simple, but nicely decorated with lots of interesting reading material. Though “off the grid,” all electronics (TV, web/phone access booster, and such) worked well. The outdoor covered kitchen was basic, but well equipped with lots of seasonings, staples (e.g., rice, pasta), pans, a nice BBQ, etc. I loved cooking surrounded by the beautiful foliage with a view of the ocean. No problem with bugs or anything else. An outdoor shower is off the back down a stairway and pleasant enough, though hot water was limited. A private toilet room is a few steps away attached to the main house. While not for everyone, if you want simple, perfectly comfortable lodging in a special quiet part of the island, this is it. It rained most nights off and on, but the days were lovely. Don’t expect white sandy beaches, but the local environment and culture is really interesting and full of wonders to explore. Don’t miss the geothermal hot tide pools, effervescent pools, and the fantastic protected snorkeling ponds.
Paddle boarding is a sport like surfing . You stand up on an extra wide board and paddle it. Sounds easy? Try it at Pohoiki Bay the boat landing is awesome for geothermal pools, snorkeling, surfing and swimming.
The geothermal hot ponds are just 5 miles from the house! Kahena beach is the famous clothing optional black sand beach just 1.5 miles down the street.
Near or in Hilo Town there are Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls, the Botanical Gardens, several great beach parks
Near Keau via hwy 11 you will find these attractions
Panaewa has an excellent zoo and is free!! The Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Plantation has free tours and samples at their gift shop YUM!
Near Kalapana you can walk to the lava, go to Uncle Robert's Wednesday night market with food and live music entertainment. Have a glass of the Hawaiian herbal kava root drink. Talk story while under the thatched roof of the kava bar.
