***WELCOME TO WOUNDED FORK***
This beautiful cedar cabin is right on the river and not only offers proximity to fly fishing but also is located in one of the largest land and wildlife preserves in the area, and only a mile from the popular Hebron Falls. Best of all, you are still just five minutes from downtown Boone and Appalachian State University. This lodge-style rustic home is perfect for families, fishing buddies or corporate groups, and has the added convenience of single level living.
The house has a large all wood living room and kitchen with cathedral ceiling, exposed beams, and lots of windows to look out on the natural surroundings. There is plenty of room for everyone to congregate for games, TV, or just enjoying each other’s company while cooking. The large deck overlooks the river with outdoor dining area and large hot tub.
Wounded Fork has three bedrooms plus a sleeping loft and four baths. The master bedroom has a private bath with custom tile shower with dual showerheads, and a separate wing on the house holds the other two bedrooms, each with doors out onto their own deck. This wing of the house also has a separate entrance, a mini kitchen and gas fireplace.
This eclectic property has several other cozy corner rooms to retreat to and curl up with a good book, sit and daydream, or even tie your own flies in the fly fishing tie station. And if you can’t get away from it all, bring it with you as there is even an office with fax machine and WIFI. This office has a beautiful hand-built desk with soothing surroundings so you can work and relax at the same time.
One of the best parts of this house is that the Boone Fork of the Watauga River adjoins the property. You are allowed to fly fish or swim within the property line to the middle of the river and it offers the best fly fishing to be had. The Boone Fork is the water coming from Price Lake on the Blue Ridge Parkway, with Simms Creek, Green Branch, and Bee Tree Creek (all on Park Service Land) flowing into the Boone Fork before entering Twin Rivers. Boone Fork is the only stream in the entire Watauga River Basin that is classified as “Outstanding Resource Waters.” The NC Division of Water Quality classified the water quality of the Creek as “excellent.” The Creek also supports exemplary natural communities and a number of rare plant and animal species.
This cabin on the river truly offers a unique opportunity for solitude or solidarity in one of the most beautiful and enticing natural settings available in the High Country.
Handicap accessible with limitations.
Wounded Fork has paved access for all but the last mile.
For larger groups, consider renting this cabin with nearby Celtic Mist OR Walk in the Clouds.
Please remember 4WD or chains are always recommended when visiting the mountains in winter.
