Beautiful 2000 s/f Penthouse duplex on the top floor of a safe, modern, elevator building in Manhattan's East Village. Fantastic 1000 s/f private roof terrace with completely open views of Midtown, Greenwich Village and Downtown. 2 master bedrooms with private baths, 1 child's bedroom, skylights, very quiet, civilized and safe.

Why The Owner chose East Village

The East Village is a unique neighborhood with a diverse population. Our apartment is one block from the East River, which offers a beautiful promenade, a jogging track and athletic fields, park areas and tennis courts. The neighborhood is filled with children, our daughter was born here. After living previously in the West Village, Soho, and the Upper East and West Sides of Manhattan, it is by far our favorite neighborhood to live in: unpretentious, family-oriented, hip, ethnically mixed and energetic, not noisy yet close to midtown, Greenwich Village and the financial district.

What makes this apartment unique

Our apartment is, as far as we know, unique in this neighborhood. It's more a house than an apartment, with multiple master bedrooms, tons of light, wood floors and what is basically a triplex layout: first floor with a loft-like open space for living room, kitchen and dining, plus one of the master bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. The second floor has 2 bedrooms - one with incredible city views - and 2 baths. Then the stairway continues up to a 1000 s/f private roof terrace, which - on three sides - affords stunning views of Manhattan.

Until the mid '90s, Alphabet City in Manhattan's East Village was too edgy for anyone who didn't live here. By the early '00s it had become one of the city's most livable neighborhoods. Directly across the island from Greenwich Village, it is populated by young professionals, immigrants, college students, low-income families and high-income actors, musicians and artists. The area is filled with great restaurants, interesting shops and an active nightlife. The bus at the corner runs every 10 minutes to Union Square (a 20-min ride). There's a 15-minute walk to the subway.

We stayed here recently for New Years. The owners are very easy to work with and accommodating. The apartment is beautiful, well kept, and the roof-deck is outstanding. I've never seen such a large apartment in NYC! The area feels very safe and the neighborhood is welcoming, We had a wonderful stay. We would definitely stay here again if we have the opportunity to travel back to NY.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
