My husband and I have been using the cottage as our vacation home for the past twenty-five years waiting for the day we could retire permanently to Northport. That day arrived 2011 when we built our new home across the street from the cottage.

Peggy Cavanaugh purchased this chalet in 1985

We fell in love with this area in 1985 and have been vacationing here ever since then. There is so much to see and do in this very beautiful peninsula, walking, biking, wineries, casino, swimming, boating, kayaking to name a few. Spring, summer, fall all the season's offer a beautiful landscape in which to gaze.

Our cottage is located in a very private wooded setting where you can view the birds and wildlife in their natural setting.

Loved the Hummingbird Cottage!!

  • 5 of 5
This cottage is so charming, nestled in the trees, just a short walk from the water. The owners are so friendly, helpful and filled with information about the area. We did use the kayaks and didn't have time to use the bikes that were provided. We will definitely recommend this cottage to all of our friends and we will be back.

Four Night Stay

  • 5 of 5
We traveled with our daughter, her husband, and their 2 year old son. The accommodations were perfect for this group, although a single bathroom is always a challenge with four adults. But the cottage is beautifully appointed, very well-kept, and the kitchen is very well-equipped. Just a short stroll to a beautiful beach and playground. The wrap around porch on two sides was a bonus. The quaint village of Northport is a quick drive, and offers several nice eateries as well as a Tom's grocery store.

Fabulous Holiday Week At The Hummingbird Cottage! May 24-31, 2014

  • 5 of 5
Steve and Peggy,

We will start with the obvious. We loved sitting out on the deck and having the hummingbirds so close along with the other nature noises. The deck was awesome having access to sun and shade at any given time. The flowers surrounding and on the deck were nice to water and watch grow giving us a nice homey feeling. We loved the privacy and feel of casual living. The kitchen was clean and well equipped as was the rest of the cottage. The association made biking and walking safe with next to no traffic. All of the outer lying areas that we love to visit were very close. Steve had great knowledge of the area and we enjoyed his stories. We look forward to returning someday. Thank you for sharing this wonderful place with us. Matt and Julie

Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5
If you are lucky enough to find the Hummingbird Cottage, you have found the best there is! The location is unbeatable. Just close enough, but just far enough away for some seclusion! The cottage was comfortable and truly felt like home, very clean and well cared for. Peggy and Steve are such wonderful hosts and were so nice to chat with on arrival and when we checked out. They have lots of information on the area and things to do right in the cottage. You could spend all day just sitting on the deck outside in the quiet and watching the birds outside the kitchen window. We enjoyed lots of walks, trails, visiting the lighthouse and stopping by a few of our favorite wineries while we were there. We are already looking forward to our next trip!

Beautiful Fall Weekend at Hummingbird Cottage

  • 5 of 5
We were looking for a relaxing cozy weekend to see the beautiful Michigan fall colors and found it atHummingbird Cottage. Owners Peggy andSteve were very welcoming and helpful. The cottage was clean andcomfortable just like in the photos. The deck was perfect for early morning coffee. The beach was a short walk or bike ride away. We enjoyed eating at The Garage in Northport. The whitefish sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich were our favorites. We had fun exploring the areas around Northport; the lighthouse, wineries, Leland, Omena, Suttons Bay. The shopping and views are wonderful! We hope togo back next year! Linda
