About Peggy Cavanaugh

My husband and I have been using the cottage as our vacation home for the past twenty-five years waiting for the day we could retire permanently to Northport. That day arrived 2011 when we built our new home across the street from the cottage.

Peggy Cavanaugh purchased this chalet in 1985

Why Peggy Cavanaugh chose Northport

We fell in love with this area in 1985 and have been vacationing here ever since then. There is so much to see and do in this very beautiful peninsula, walking, biking, wineries, casino, swimming, boating, kayaking to name a few. Spring, summer, fall all the season's offer a beautiful landscape in which to gaze.

What makes this chalet unique

Our cottage is located in a very private wooded setting where you can view the birds and wildlife in their natural setting.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our vacation in so many ways. You were great hosts, the cottage was clean and inviting. There were so many activities to do and things to see. We are looking forward to renting next year.

Clean & Cozy

Clean & Cozy
  • 5 of 5
My husband and I spent three nights at Hummingbird Cottage. It was very clean, with comfortable furniture, a well equipped kitchen and lots of clean towels in the bathroom. The cottage is in a nice neighborhood with a park and beach easy to walk to in a few minutes. The neighborhood even has wooded walking trails, that we took full advantage of to walk our dog. In the morning we enjoyed sunrises at the neighborhood beach. In the evening we drove to Christmas Cove beach for the sunset. We sat at the outdoor fireplace at Northport Brewery and enjoyed a beer, ate lunch at The Garage in Northport. (One negative: the buns on our perch sandwiches were stale.) We also ate lunch at The Cove in Leland and bought smoked fish at Carlson' s. We hiked the trails at Leelanua State Park and walked the beach at Cathead Bay. We bought pottery from Tom and George at Northport Pottery, wine from Chateau Contains and Donuts from Barb' s Bakery. On our last morning we had a great breakfast at The North End. Had a great fall color show. Appreciated the owners Peggy and Steve and their helpful info. Fun long weekend!

Relaxing week at the Hummingbird Cottage

  • 5 of 5
This is our second stay at the Hummingbird Cottage. We had such a wonderful week and were able to dodge the rain showers and get out for lots of walks (amazing to see the deer wandering in the mornings and evenings, it was something we truly enjoyed!) It was so wonderful to have such a clean and homelike feel to come back to if we were out hiking or walking. Lots of wonderful places in Northport to eat, get coffee and wander in, but this trip we did most of our coffee and meals right at the cottage and loved it! The coziness with the rain gave it comforting feel to just curl up read a good book. This cottage holds a special place in our heart now, the owners Peggy and Steve are so wonderful and kind and fun to talk to. We look forward to planning another trip at the Hummingbird, it nearly broke my heart to check out and have to go home....I am still missing it! Thank you again Peggy and Steve for such a wonderful gem you have with the Hummingbird, and the care you take of it is so wonderful! Your kindness is truly appreciated and we look forward to seeing you again!

well-equipped cozy cottage

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I spent a restful four days at the cottage, and can definitely recommend it. Unfortunately the weather turned cold, so we did not get to try the kayaks, beach, or spend much time on the deck, but the heat works great, and we enjoyed taking the bikes up to the lighthouse. We also hiked in the nearby state park, bought our fish in fishtown, and even made it past TC to see some wineries and hiking trails on the Old Mission Peninsula. Back at the house, the kitchen is very well-equipped, and we slept like logs. Wifi was intermittent, so we drove to the library in Northport one day when we had work to do. Owners are quite friendly and generous (including an offer of sweatshirts when the temps fell), and the neighborhood is lovely and quiet. I would definitely recommend this property, but remember that it is cozy, you'll be sharing one small bathroom, so plan accordingly.

Loved the Hummingbird Cottage!!

  • 5 of 5
This cottage is so charming, nestled in the trees, just a short walk from the water. The owners are so friendly, helpful and filled with information about the area. We did use the kayaks and didn't have time to use the bikes that were provided. We will definitely recommend this cottage to all of our friends and we will be back.

Four Night Stay

  • 5 of 5
We traveled with our daughter, her husband, and their 2 year old son. The accommodations were perfect for this group, although a single bathroom is always a challenge with four adults. But the cottage is beautifully appointed, very well-kept, and the kitchen is very well-equipped. Just a short stroll to a beautiful beach and playground. The wrap around porch on two sides was a bonus. The quaint village of Northport is a quick drive, and offers several nice eateries as well as a Tom's grocery store.

Fabulous Holiday Week At The Hummingbird Cottage! May 24-31, 2014

  • 5 of 5
Steve and Peggy,

We will start with the obvious. We loved sitting out on the deck and having the hummingbirds so close along with the other nature noises. The deck was awesome having access to sun and shade at any given time. The flowers surrounding and on the deck were nice to water and watch grow giving us a nice homey feeling. We loved the privacy and feel of casual living. The kitchen was clean and well equipped as was the rest of the cottage. The association made biking and walking safe with next to no traffic. All of the outer lying areas that we love to visit were very close. Steve had great knowledge of the area and we enjoyed his stories. We look forward to returning someday. Thank you for sharing this wonderful place with us. Matt and Julie
