This is the perfect getaway for couples or small families looking for a quiet getaway. There is plenty to do at the cabin or within a 15 minute drive. The cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, 3 bedrooms (2 full, 1 queen, 1 full), 2 full baths, gas grill, and a covered deck overlooking the river. There is a fire pit overlooking the river for quiet evening campfires. A canoe, 2 kayaks, and 4 tubes are available for your use. We prefer no more than 4 responsible adults or a family of 6.
My husband I are both teachers who moved to Virginia from Maryland about 11 years ago.
Jeff and Lori Perry purchased this house in 2000
We love the quiet and beauty of the Shenandoah Valley. We were fortunate enough to find this property right on the river where we could build our own cabin. Nothing beats having the Shenandoah River right out your front door.
We can swim, fish and canoe right from the house. Evening campfires overlooking the river are the perfect way to spend an evening after a day in the water. There is plenty to do without leaving the house.
Loved the location of River's Edge in relation to Skyline Drive and the caverns, as well as its setting on the river. We thoroughly enjoyed all this home has to offer, from the river-side fire pit to the tubes and canoe. Plenty of activities to entertain a 6 year old, 3 year old and 6 month old! Owners are very friendly and answered any questions we had before and during our stay. We cannot wait to go back!
No complaints at all, everything was as promised. We enjoyed the kayaks, tubes and fire pit outside. Kids also swam in the river which has a pretty good current so you should be careful with small children. Our tweens wore life jackets while swimming, which were also provided. Inside was clean and neat. Plenty of space for six people. Owners live next door so they are there if you need anything.
Great cabin in the mountains! Far enough away to feel secluded yet close enough to the sites that we wanted to see. View of the river from the cabin was fantastic, house was clean and cozy. We had 6 adults and all slept comfortably!! Both Jeff and Lori were helpful and very easy to work with. The weather was rainy while we were there but that didn't stop us from having fun, the cabin was well stocked with games and we had a great time. Looking forward to coming when the weather is warmer so we can take advantage of the river. We would definitely rent this cabin again!!
We stayed for 3 December nights and enjoyed the cabin very much. The owners were very helpful (they live next door) and booking was easy. The cabin is right on the water, and while it is in a very rural area, there are other houses close enough that you don't feel completely off the grid. The house itself is very nice with absolutely no odor issue or mold etc.. It seemed larger than in the pictures. While it was too cold to enjoy the porch, we enjoyed looking at the river, and just the serenity of the setting. Skyline drive is lovely in winter, and the caverns have far fewer visitors. Plan your stay to arrive during the daylight hours if possible. It's a little off the main road and easier to navigate in the daylight, and then easy any time of day once you know where you are headed. We would return to this cabin at a future date. :-)
We brought grandchildren from age 5 through 14 and everyone had a blast. Plenty to do, everyone went tubing, some of us kayaked and canoed. Kids played in yard with games provided and we brought walkie talkies that were a hit! Weather was wonderful, but, there is a TV, DVD player, Board games, etc. nice to know they were there if we needed them. Cooked inside/on grill and used firepit for smores and used our dutch oven there once too! Porch on 2 sides was great place for wet towels/clothes and shoes to keep out of the house. Brought plenty of non-DEET bug spray which was needed and did a fine job. River view is beautiful. Morning fog over water was a treat too.
This is a great vacation home. Clean, great location, quiet, river is right at your back door. We enjoyed fishing, fire pit, tubes, canoes and kayaks. Really close to a super Walmart, Skyline Drive, Caverns, horseback riding. We had an amazing relaxing time!
River's edge cabin is located just 5 miles north of luray off of route 340 in page county, Virginia. Just walk across the yard to enjoy water activities such as canoeing, kayaking, tubing, swimming, and fishing in the Shenandoah river. There are many options for day activities including exploring luray caverns, hiking in Shenandoah national park, taking a scenic drive on skyline drive, and visiting local wineries and civil war battlefields. Lake arrowhead, only 20 minutes away, has a sandy beach for swimming. Other nearby activities include zip lining and horseback riding. In the evening, enjoy cooking hotdogs and smores on the outdoor fire pit. In the winter months, Bryce and massanutten ski resorts are about an hour away.
